No wonder some of the plots you guys plant are so sucessfull..... the damn deer get the munchies.

Anyone know the reasoning behind why you can't shoot deer in water? That one has never made much sence to me.. I assume it means while they are chest deep swimming and not just standing in an ankle deep crick?

Ha- good stuff! I know in my own mind the "wooly buck" is still out there.... Untill we meet, I'll enjoy my meat, lol

Going back a bunch of years here. I took a head shot at a buck that was with some does in the brush and hit him right in the antler knocking him to his knees. He was still very much alive, but dissoriented and stunned, appearing to be bedded. Now I'm confused because this buck that is "bedded" there, has only one antler and all the other deer scattered but were still in the area I could see. After a good inventory while standing there scratching my head, I approached the buck to find an antler puzzle laying on the ground where he stood. I then had to back up and finish him off with a shot behind the shoulder. I still have all those pieces of antler I gathered up almost 20yrs ago. The following year I had a similar encounter with a bedded buck on a rise that only had his head visable facing the opposite direction of my approach. I set my crosshairs on the back of his head and let 'em have it. His head suddenly dissapeared and he seemed to roll down the gulley he was bedded atop. I immediately followed up to where he was laying only to find a blood splatter and an antler blown off at the base. We followed that deer for 3 miles in the snow (yes, this was when our entire block was un-posted/free roaming) and we never caught up to him. He bedded once and made his retreat to higher ground with no signs of slowing down. Never recovered that buck. Guess what I'm saying is, those were my first, and last two attempts to put a slug through a deers noggin. My 100% failure rate with the first shot in both cases was enough to say enough is enough.

I get there when I get there..... I tend to slip out late more than arrive early. Not a big fan of my scent unnecessarily blowing around an area before I can even see them pass through. ...at least that's the excuse I use to convince myself it's ok to hit the snooze button a couple times.

Boat Restoration
wooly replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
Gel coat finish? I used to repair fiberglass bathtubs and hot tubs if that helps, lol. Restored a few dull boat finishes, and fixed a lot of damaged hulls on the side untill everyone found out how easy it was to DIY. -
I wonder if the antis are going to fight for more knife control...

If I'm not mistaking this for another story one victim was stabbed, and the assailant then shot his father with a bow before stabbing to him and himself to death. -
I've never killed a deer from a stand with archery gear although I've tried these past 2 years. All my bow kills to this point (about 15) have come from the ground. I've only shot 2 deer from a stand with my ML the past 2 years. Not putting anyones favorite technique down, but that was 2 of my least memerable hunts. I've lost track of how many I've taken from the ground durring firearms. Actually, I haven't lost track, I just don't wanna sound like I'm bragging, lol I doubt I'll be spending much time hanging off the side of a tree anymore.

GIANT!!! Congrats!

You will have to make two trips!

Baby steps Doc, beginning in 2013, all licenced hunters in NY will be required to know how to count to 10 without taking their socks off! Only then will all those #'s make any sence in the NZ. Untill then, they'll just have to rely on shaking down the family tree to catch a few nuts!

LOL- screw calling DEC tipline, I'm dialing up the fashion police!
-
Yup, forgot to mention SZ. If it's on your pack, is it still ok there once you get into a stand.... at which point it would not be on you back anymore?
-
Just a curiosity question for you guys that try to follow the rules to the letter. I believe the NYS regulations book states the backtag must be displayed on the center of your back. I'm assuming this also means it needs to be visable and not 3 layers deep, lol My guess is this might be a case of impropper display of a tag, and possibly a violation?

Nuthin' like a good ole mountain lion thread to bring a smile to everyones face! Always look forward to these, lol!

Last one I boiled at my ex mother in-laws house. The neighbors were already used to the obnoxious stink coming from her,lol
-
You guys are too damned sensitive, lol
-
You're probably right..., but you just know some safety minded hunter is gonna strap in thinking he's doing good, and end up running himself over in one of those things, lol. I bet the company folds after the first lawsuit.

Geeze, gotta be like shootin' fish in a barrel.... I must google this East Aurora place!

I'm a firm believer you can condition deer to tolerate some scent and regular intrusions over time. I notice it all the time while out photographing them in my area.

Great story accman! Better throw a couple "extra bucks" in the plate at church this Sunday to pay it back!

Italian AR's are taking a while to catch on.....
