  1. Not sure about others, but it seems to be working for me now. I did follow the suggestions listed on the following link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283807 Not sure if I corrected my issue, or if a modification to the site was made, but its now working
  2. Same issues narrow avators and no images. I'm using IE8. folks not having an issue, what browser are you using? Thanks
  3. Oddest thing, I ever saw in the woods was when I was hunting a small patch of state land in Putnam county some 20 years ago. I’m 30 feet up a tree watching a trail, when I see two young lovers holding hands and being very affectionate towards each other. As they get directly under my stand, I realize that it’s two dudes.
  4. I used to lose one or two stands every few years. I now leave my climbing stand in all season. Pull them after the season closes. I don't leave them on the tree. I chain/lock them near the tree I want to hunt along side an easy to find landmark (blow down / boulder). I then bury them in brush and leaves. I haven’t lost one since.
  5. they try at RCCC, but it's not a very good show. If you've been in the past, no need to go again
  6. two points to add: (1) how is it constitutional to require someone to buy insurance to exercise a constitutional right? (2) all the people murdered with firearms in America are victims of wrongful death and thus their heirs are already free to sue the responsible parties (murders).
  7. Covert - Jefferson has long been gone. The tyrants have taken control of the republic he gave us. A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage. -Tytler
  8. Unfortunately, NYS is a lost cause. Taxes in this state are insane. It’s a beautiful place with abundant natural resources. The politicians (Republicans and Democrats) are all the same, they sold out to public sector unions. Union employees work 15 or 20 years and collect pensions that their neighbors have to pay. I don’t blame the union workers, I would take the $ if I could. But it’s not right that a cop, firefighter, garbage collector retires at 40 years old and collects $75,000+ for the rest if his / her life. Someone needs to pay the bill! NYS has passed numerous nanny state laws. Most recently the gun control law. This law will never be over turned by assembly or state senate. Maybe a court will throw it out, but not an elected official. As for a place to move, any right to work state will do. These states have low taxes and are mostly located in the south. Vote with your feet, leave if you can!
  9. Just adding my two cents. The real shame he is these laws are making NYS even less desirable to live in. People who have the means to leave will ‘vote with their feet’ and leave. With hard work and some luck I’ve been able to make fairly good money. I’ve started and sold companies. I now own a few rental units and single family homes. I pay over $50K a year in real estate tax. I pay a painful amount in NYS income tax. I employ on and off about a dozen sub-contractors to build and rehab my properties. When I’ve had enough of this states idiotic laws I will leave. A dozen hard working folks will lose their jobs. NYS will lose its tax money. The state will be left with the societal parasites it deserves. But I feel bad for the folks that can’t vote with their feet. NYS is a lost cause. It’s can’t be fixed. Too many takers and not enough productive people in this state. The parasites will kill the host. Get out while you can.
  10. I beleive at least 1 Republican from Buffalo also voted for it. We need to split this state into two states. Everything south of Weschester goes to NYC and everthying else stays NY.
  11. WNYBuckHunter - thanks for the clarification on the old military guns. Now I just need to figure what to do with some pistols and other rifles...very confusing new law
  12. I think I know what I'm saying. But I'm not turning in the guns my grandfather used in WW2 or the ones he took home as spoils of war. I'm not turning in the gun my father used in Korea. I will leave the state first. For the time being I will not use them in state. I have removed them from the walls and put them in the safe. If needed I will store them with relatives out of state.
  13. WHY SELL. DON'T ASK...DON'T TELL. the law might get repelled, you might move to a differnet state.
  14. nybuckboy - Too early for a gun control rant. Let the news settle a bit. maybe if one of the teachers was armed this could have been avoided. Maybe the wacko had a history of odd behavior and had no right to a gun. maybe it was just an evil JACKASS. but its way too soon to start a gun control rant.
  15. We just go to Maine or NB because its close and we have about a 1/2 dozen guys who routinely go. It’s cheaper to drive and you can all drive up together in a few trucks. The bears aren't all that big 100 to 250 pounds is the norm. Once in a while someone will get a 400+. You don't always get one. I've gotten 6, biggest 260lbs. Some years you see none, most years 1 or 2 at best. Out west the bears are bigger and you should expect to see more...but pay more about $3500/week. I just go because I enjoy the trip and catching up with folks. Most of us don’t hunt deer together…to competitive…none of us are going to give access to good deer land to my friends and family, so we hunt bear together instead Back to Bob, it’s just my opinion. He know how to hunt bear, but I didn’t like how I perceived he treated others hunters. It might have just been me.
  16. $1600 is a lot for some. Living in Westchester like you and I do, we make a decet living (I assume you do), but not everyone is as skilled or lucky as we might be. I've seen folks that are married fathers.... making barely $45K a year, save to go on a hunt and get F'd by Bob. Yes, I go on one or two bear hunts each year There's a group of us that do. We been doing it decade now. We know many of guides in maine and NB. Its a week away from family and wifes. But sometimes you feel bad for the guy on his first paid hunt. You know he's going to get bent over. Bob is the only guide I hunted with that I would advise to avoid. Just my opinion.
  17. Bob does knows his stuff. I hunted with him a few times. But I see how he treats new (1st time bear hunters). he needs his repeat business. Returning hunters always get the best stands. A new hunter won't see a bear until mid week if at all. All the active stands are reserved for the folks that hunted with Bob in the past. It's a shame beacuse i've seen folks who saved for years to be able to afford a bear hunt get F'd by Bob. Also his Sunset view loadge (Canda) is right next to Panfly lodge (much nicer).
  18. where in canda? if NB. i would just go to Maine. Try Denny Davis Crooket tree lodge. I've been on about a dozen bear hunts (US and canada) and if you just want a black bear with no color phase, then Maine is good enough. just AVOID Bob Parker (Stoney Brook Outfitters & Sunset view Lodge). Bob knows his stuff, but plays favoites. Unless you are a returning hunter from a prior year you'll get F'd. and F'd hard! So if you're going to maine, go with Denny Davis (1st week bait or 1st week hounds) Good luck
  19. Hunter49 Yes I did buy the X-stand (sit and climb model). It’s not the most comfortable stand I have, but it is the lightest and easiest to set up. It climbs like any other stand, but takes some getting used to. As for the cables being like parachutes when carrying thru thick stuff as arrow nocker mentioned they are. It can be a real PIA. I just take the cables off and put them in my pack. I would only recommend this stand if you are travelling a few miles or do not have the ability to carry a 20 pound stand. If you’re hunting close to the car, get something more comfortable. But when travelling far distances, this is my favorite stand.
  20. Accman, Were the deer’s capped?...skinned out? If not, they mostly won't be mounted…you would need to jack a second deer to get a cape…doesn’t make sense. i'm betting road kills...but who knows
  21. were the bucks shot or were they road kills. Sometimes the highway guys will cut off the heads to save the racks on road kills. They usaully bury the deer, but sometimes dumps them...just wondering
  22. one did show up. it go killed by a car. READ the articles. It was a wandering animal...not a part of a resident population http://abcnews.go.com/US/conn-mountain-lion-made-long-journey-south-dakota/story?id=14169829 http://greenwich.patch.com/articles/connecticut-mountain-lion-traveled-from-south-dakota. I'm not saying that there is breeding population in NYS. but at least 1 walked through our state
  23. I wouldn’t be that quick to doubt that they do or can exist in NYS. Last year one was killed by a car in Greenwich CT. It was proven that it did walk through NYS to CT. It was a WILD cat…no ones pet. See link… http://greenwich.patch.com/articles/connecticut-mountain-lion-traveled-from-south-dakota. It came from SD. So as of last year ….YES Virginia NYS had a least 1 mountain loin. I have hunted Duchess County for nearly 25 years, and many of the farmers swear that they have seen mountain lions these farmers have no reason to lie and know their land quite well. I’ve never seen one, but I hope they do exist or migrate back. Lastly, 30 years ago when I took hunting education, I was told by the NYS DEC folks that Coyote did not NYS. The old timers (father, uncles, and farmers) at that time all knew Coyotes were in the state, but NYS DEC always stated that they didn’t. Maybe in 10 years or so, more lions will been seen. But at least 1 was here. Might be more
  24. fyi http://www.lohud.com/article/20121127/NEWS/311270076/State-appeals-court-upholds-gun-law-not-unduly-restrictive-?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Frontpage A federal appeals court today upheld New York’s gun licensing law, rejecting claims by five Westchester residents that the law violates their constitutional right to bear arms. The decision by the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals was hailed by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, whose office defended the state Supreme Court judges who denied the plaintiffs applications for “full-carry, concealed-handgun” permits because they failed to show “proper cause” why they needed the licenses. The Attorney General said the ruling was a victory “for families across New York who are rightly concerned about the scourge of gun violence that all too often plagues our communities.” “Every day, my office fights to ensure all New Yorkers are safe and secure in their communities,” Schneiderman said in a statement. “This means ensuring that our state’s gun laws are protected and vigorously enforced.” The lawsuit was filed in July 2010 by Alan Kachalsky, Christina Nikolov, Johnnie Nance, Anna Marcucci-Nance, Eric Detmer and the Second Amendment Foundation. U.S. District Judge Cathy Seibel dismissed the lawsuit in September 2011, ruling that there is no constitutional right to carry a concealed handgun in public and that the licensing provision was a legitimate public interest. In today’s ruling, the three circuit judges unanimously agreed, finding that the “proper cause” requirement was not unduly restrictive. “New York determined that limiting handgun possession to persons who have an articulable basis for believing they will need the weapon for self-defense is in the best interest of public safety and outweighs the need to have a handgun for an unexpected confrontation,” the judges wrote. “New York did not run afoul of the Second Amendment by doing so.” Kachalsky, a lawyer from Rye who was the lead plaintiff, could not immediately be reached for comment
