Well I'm out.... I don't know if they were gobblers... At least one was a hen. As it called back to me before they flew across the river. They landed far to the left I literally saw them fly in and they curved off to the left. I'm assume they walked down the farm road I walked in on. No noise from them and shortly later the fox/yote appeared. (Brown without a bushy tail. I'm assuming yote) I watched the vote for a bit and crept out of my thicket. No sign of the birds... I threw one loud call... Waited 10 minutes. No response and packed up. Next sit I'm going to move back a field closer than I was... Omw out I saw poop, scratches. Also its the direction the birds went... And last weekend there was feathers on that section of the trail. Also the grass is shorter. Bonus. Omw out I about crapped my pants when a very long and large animal bounded along the tree line near the river. Then halfway up a tree and stuck its teddy bear face out the side to watch me..... I was so struck by seeing my first fisher in the wild I opened every pocket but the one with my camera.. By the time I had it out he was gone... He was big... Tail seemed almost as bushy as his body. And just as long as his body. I'd say total length near 4 foot ish. Who knew a fisher near the barge canal. What a great morning.... Saw my first legit birds. Called them in to boot. Had a vote show for an hour then the fisher...

Thanks! all the time Ive spent int he woods in my life and it wasnt untill I started hunting that i really started noticing things like this.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions it was the fabled NY mtn lion. ^^^^^^^Sarcasm alert. I was asking more to know if this would possibly be a large coyote print. or more likely just a large home dog whose owner doesnt trim their nails. Yes the prints were in what was once mud / a mud puddle.
-
End of my turkey hunt this past weekend I saw these along the edge of a path. What struck me as odd was the size and the length of the nails... I pretty sure its a dog but man do I feel bad for it with nails that long.

Same here... Spotted toms twice in preseason. Now not a gobble for 3 trips
-
I do find a wider tree allows for a more comfortable sit as it spreads the fabric better.

Grabed a 10 minute snooze in mine in the field this morning... Zero. Action today and I was in an hour before sunrise. No gobbles no nothing... Trying 2 brand new in scouted locations next weekend.
-
Yeah I was thinking I could grab those too without the full plucking or skinning. Thanks for the heads up gents.
-
And the photo, what is common process for us here in nys? I've seen the pluck and skin methods. As well as the breast harvest method..... Personally as I will be the only one eating I am planning to do a breast harvest. What should I do with the remains? Garbage bag and out with the daily trash? Freeze it till garbage day?

There's a free trial and a paid version. I splurged on it. Mark waypoints with photos. Record tracks. And save maps to you phone so u can run GPS without data and save battery

Back country navigator... I use it hunting and backpacking.

No sir. Utica Rome area

Also wanted some opinions on the other options there.... 1) big standard field 2) small field... Back to a river.. Down corn fields directly across the river... Smaller field with scrub trees spaced out. 3) med size field split in 2,by a 200ft long by 70 wide stand of scrub trees Which would u take? Are these turkey feathers ?

Well I misjudged the sunrise. Thought I could snag an extra 20 minutes of sleep and ending up walking in a little lighter than planned. Still not full sunrise.. But I could definitely see better than I wanted to. Someone made it out ahead of me. I expected it. And at least it was one truck and not 5. I hit the first area where I've previously seen birds. Scanning the trees as I went... When I got almost tot he end of the first field I saw a single bird roosted solo. (Jake?) I then heard the other guy calling on the other side of the field. I had expected the guy there before me to have gone in further. Oh well. I went to the next field... Setup. And within 40 minutes the sun was fully up over the ridge. I did a little calling.... But mostly just sat for an hour or so.... I saw the other guy leave at one point. I sat a bit and enjoyed the morning. And what a beautiful morning it was. I couldn't stay till 12 due to engagements so I decided to walk the full length of the property to see if I could catch some birds out to feed in one of the other fields. No such luck. This makes 2 instances of seeing birds in the first field... this time a single one roosted. Should I hit this same field tomorrow even though someone else was sitting it today?

Wow that's kinda scary.... In reality This could happen with any firing pin. Kinda puts things into perspective. -
I'm full on winging it sat morn... Haven't been back to the public land I scouted since I saw the tom. I swung thru today after work to check water level and determine if I needed waders. Looks prime. But I didn't stay. Incredibly ready to roll... I hope I don't get skunked on my first turkey season like I did for deer. Thanks for all the advice y'all

I have the amazon dead ringer seat.... Everything I found says its the same thing.... Mine says 300lb weight limit in the paperwork.... Its extra heavy duty... I have ripstop nylon hammocks and hammock chairs for backpacking... The only thing on this that looks weak is the clip.... And if u wrap the tree properly it shouldn't have much tension on it.

thanks i was looking at this and the primos one...!!
