  1. Well I finally got a coyote call and a decent light for clearing some coyotes out. I've read and watched alot about picking and setting a stand, but I have a question I feel is best answered within state. Once I get a coyote, what should I do with it? My understanding is that the pelts dont go for hardly anything. And do u skin it out just like I would a deer? If pelting it isnt worthwhile, I know I can start a pile. 2. Had to cook a bit longer in the oven as the wife didnt like the look of the super rare even though it was at safe temp. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  3. Thanks to all you for the info. I was able to do a venison roast that weekend. Came out great. Was able to maintain temps at 200. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  4. Guinness. Should add the smoke only comes out door jamb when top vent is closed. And that fully closed is still 10% open Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  5. Got me a smoker for chrustmas. Just a nice little starter propane job. Need tips for a venison roast tomorrow. Ideal temp and time? I also need to get a wireless or wired thermometer. Some utensils and gloves. I have a little of bit of smoke coming out the sides of the door gaps, dont worry about or is there a DIY fix? Doing a break in now. Oiled all surfaces after cleaning. Doing a mesquite soaked 10 hrs. And the water from the soaking mixed with guiness. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  6. Thanks for all the input guys.. They sent me a new break. Got it installed and chain on correctly. It's working good. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  7. Found the manual free online! Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  8. Where Do you oil? Behind the sprocket? I do not have a manual for the saw currently. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  9. Yes the chain is on backwards. Thanks for pointing it out. I still have some small parts to replace on it so I wont be using it till spring. Just assembled in current form to make sure the brake was the initial issue. Og brake did not stop the chain. The model number for the saw comes up as husqvarna also. I dont know if that improves the saws status. I'm just under 100$ all in. For a working saw. With plastic case, sharpening system and 3 chains. Not bad imo for a first saw that will only get used for spring deer property maintenance. I have chaps and a helmet/face shield as well since I'm a safety sally. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  10. I want to say thanks for all the advice yall. I really appreciate it. I contacted the company I bought the brake from to see about return/exchange. After comparing the original and new brake. The new one was slightly smaller. And it rubbed in a spot on the clutch even when disengaged. They called it defective and shipped me out a new one free of charge. Just got it in the mail and it fits better. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  11. Also is it possible to just pull the internals out of the melted brake and put them into the old one? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  12. So it seems the consensus is the housing for the brake is possibly too small. Or by revving it with the brake on it generated too much heat. Aka user error. I'm only I to this saw for 90$ total. I'm fine with throwing another 50 at it. If I do. Are there some internal bushings or anything I should get since I revved it a bit with the brake on? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  13. I should add that since she started rough I let it warm up a minute and then gave some throttle with the brake on. Then disengaged the brake and she ran. Some googling tells me that revving it with the brake on can do this? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  14. Lol thanks for the help. Bought it used in rough shape. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  15. Should clarify. One pic is the old brake. One is the melted new brake. Now that I think about it.. could a bar that is too tight cause this? There was some slack in the chain but not so much I could pull the teeth out of the guide. Or did I clean the flywheel too much thereby getting rid of all lube and I should have relubed it? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  16. Bought a poulon pro 20" It was in bad shape. But started. Cleaned it all up ordered new parts and replaced them. One of which was the brake. It was broke. I got the new one on and fired it up for the first time. Took a few pulls but she started and ran and the brake worked. There was alot of smoke which I thought was odd. Filled the bar and chain reservoir before starting. This is what I got. Sprayed some chain lube on the flywheel once I got it apart again. And it was so hot it smoked. What happened here? Was the brake clamp too tight? My error or poor replacement part? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  17. We have been hesitant to strip out the under growth as the deer find safety in it. Other than clearing a lane or two for the stands. And a trail going to the back of the hardwoods. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  18. The timber was logged a 10 years ago. No trees good enough to log. Barely enough decent trees for tree stands. Sightlines in the hardwoods are limited to 20-30 yards due to under growth. Leaving deer many different routes through Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  19. An irregular shaped plot. I understand the concept but I am having a hard time visualizing it. Can you draw a rough sketch of what you mean? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  20. I should that the sought and east borders is a hundredish acre property. 5- 6 guys hunt it for essentially rifle only as far as I know. They tend to hunt sat/sundays. And all of them will be spread out in the property. Even with all of that activity there. The deer still head through there every day headed to ag fields further east. North and east borders are highway. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  21. The field south is all hay every year. Hardly ever see deer in it. The blue rectangular circled area is anticipated plot location. Yellow is deer movement based on 6 years of data. Black is most common wind direction. Red is bedding. Large portion at top is most used. Blue line along the right is property line. Green dots are stand locations currently. Only viable entry point is the buildings middle left border. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  22. So it was an extremely sparse year for my buddy's property that we have put a ton of work on over the years. Property : 50 acres. 35 is fallow field with no trees. Severely overgrown and marshy. 25 wooded. Hard woods. Alot of scrub under growth and stick like young trees. Issue: deer only cross through they bed in the field. And cross through his property on the way to somewhere far east of the property. Far enough that they are gone by legal light and dont get back till after sunset. We have an 1/8 acre food plot. If that. In the center of the hard woods. Doesnt grow well due to canopy issues. ( soil tested and limed) and doesnt get used once the snow hits. Property has abundant water from a decent crick that slows good all year straight through the center. And through the woods. Only one sighting this year. Despite a decent amount of trail pics. So we have tons of bedding and water. How large of a plot do we need to cut outta the field to hold the average 10 deer we get on cam? What should we plant in this 2-3acre plot to hold through gun season? We will be paying someone to come in and brushhog then till the soil. I am thinking corn with an outside ring maybe 20 yards wide of clover. Thoughts? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  23. I appreciate the sympathy and kind words. After several successfull seasons. Tracking deer. Helping others find deer. I've considered myself a good shot and tracker. After putting in all the scouting. Not taking young not taking does with fawns. Passing small bucks. I didnt realise I would be hit this hard by the failure. To say that I am disapointed and ashamed of myself is an under statement. I am going to go out and practice more freehand shooting and get a shooting stick. One thing is for sure I am on the lookout for a new rifle. I sighted this in a week ago it wasnt off from last year. And the scope has proven itself over a couple years. However it's not the first time ive had feeding issues. I've also been unsatisfied with the damage the .308 has done prior. Even with heavy soft point rounds. Im ready to graduate to a nicer higher quality rifle. Any recomendations on a heavier larger caliber? Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  24. I figure I should add my rational for taking a longer than normal shot for me. Not an excuse. After passing a few deer this year the first couple trips. It's been 6 sits with no sightings at all. So of course now that one presented I took it. I rushed the shot. No deer search near me Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
  25. Go easy on me. I'm already way down in the dumps. Spent 2 hrs last night. And 4 hrs this morning looking for a deer. I took a 150yard shot across an open field. Slightly quartering away with the cross on the vitals. Rifle is sighted 1inch high at 100. Went to go look for blood after 15 minutes as it was getting dark. Deer had run off with tail down into the woods. I start scanning the deer trails on the field edge. Nothing. I look up and there's a doe 30 yards in the woods. Looks at me looks away and stands there. This must be the deer. Load sight click. Oh no dud round/delayed fire. Keep holding. Nothing. Recock. Aim click. Point at ground for safety. Deer is still there 2 steps further away. Pull the round. And the rifle had never stripped off a new cartridge. Load new cartridge. Deer is moving. I adjust to try and get an unobstructed shot. Deer is gone. Go to last sighting. Small bit of blood. 3in circle. Follow a random drop every 2 -3 feet to cut corn. Then back to wood line. About 50 yards. Cant find any blood. Looks for an hour on hands and knees. No blood. Light dies. Go home sleepless night. Get up at crack today and head out. It had done a hard rain according to land owner. Go back to first big blood. It's gone. Try finding any other blood I had last night. All gone. Back to last known drop from last night. Gone(and it was in very obvious place). Agai. spend hour grid searching from last known . Nothing Begin circling slowly looking for blood. Pick up a ton of leaves with red splotches. Damn maples. Begin visual search for body. Bust through three large bedding areas looking for blood and bed blood. Nothing. I end up searching visually for a body in an area about 1000 yards from last blood in all directions looking for a body or bed. Still nothing. Push search to property line and check all k own trails that cross it. As well as glass into next property nothing. I ended up covering about 30 acres. No blood. No body. I am such an jerk. I am so pissed off at myself right now. Having thoughts of hanging it up for the season. I've had to let deer sit overnight before. And spent hours looking for them. But never this much. I had to change my clothes and boots halfway through because I was soaked through from all the rain and I cant get sick. Alright. Fire away. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
