Possible Reasons for a Bad Gun Season?
Bowshotmuzzleloader replied to CharlieNY's topic in Deer Hunting
I start my hunting season the same every year !!! With the expectation of not seeing or killing a deer, then I'm not disappointed ... I saw many , many deer this bow season and had encounters with two mature 8 points but couldn't get it done ,,, I passed many doe and young bucks ,, that's hunting .. Being in the woods enjoying the outdoors is a blessing in itself... Be thankful you are healthy and able to hunt many are not as fortunate..killing a deer is not only the only part of being successful... Everybody's goals and hunting experience are different...Mine is taking a 2 1/2 or older deer,, I got two in front of me this year that to me is a success.. -

Well done !!!!

I agree also .... It's the 90% I'm questioning ?? Just wondering if that's a factual number from a source ,, seems very high ,,maybe I'm wrong ??
-
Yea it's more ethical to shoot them when they are feeding , at least they have their last meal,, Instead of on the run
-
90% of opening day kills ??? Where did you get that number from....

Would You Support a Blaze Orange Compromise?
Bowshotmuzzleloader replied to wildcat junkie's topic in Deer Hunting
Sounds like hearsay in court??? Soooo you believe everything you read ,, well maybe you should hunt the SZ and see it's not all that??? I wear a hat in for my protection even though the properties. I hunt does not have any other hunters on it ,, I do it because my wife feels more comfortable not worrying about me ,, the least I can do for her.. I would wear blaze orange if the powers to be , would let me take deer at dawn and dusk,, it would allow me to have more time after work and would of put a few big bucks on the wall that I had to let walk.. I go in at dark and leave close to dark as most of the hunters i see??? A lot of times because of deer being spooked or out when I come in or out..most deer I have shot in the AM are at 7.30 ??? And the PM around 4.00 PM I haven't been shot or mistaking for a deer,,does it happen of course it does, accidents will always happen in any sport or activity no matter how safe you are.. Being told to wear a vest in not much different that being told to wear a helmet??? I ride and think I should have the choice , but I would wear one anyway if the law was different.. The only point I was trying to get across is wearing orange IMO would help with accidents regardless of the sunrise sunset law , dusk to dawn fight ... In changing the law would IMO not have a increase in the amount of hunting accidents ... Lack of experience and the need to get a deer to brag , will always have a effect on the accident rate ,, as does the drinking the night before hunting,, and the vast range of different people from all, walks of life .. People who shouldn't be in the woods at all with a gun,,, Buck fever, getting up early and being new to the sport can lead your mind into seeing something that may not be ... Which goes back to a orange vest may help, not cure -

Hey Widcat great idea with the pics !!! Wish you would have parked your BO hat back in the pines really would of stood out and drove it home a little more ,., I have always thought. The sunrise sunset law was nonsense... A blaze orange hat and vest can be seen as you stated in almost no light and light no problem .. Bubba want stats well if you go to any state that requires blaze orange their accident rate has dropped since implementing but , he needs that made into a pie chart to understand that it works ... -
Two mature does that have been bred early in the season ??? Like First couple of weeks in October by the look of the Tarsal Glands ???

http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/05/pennsylvania_game_commission_f.html Seems to be working there no increase HUMMMM Changing the law will not change a thing no matter how much you guys want to point fingers !!!! I'm not sure where you guys are hunting must be some private preserve far enough away from this forum and the sound that a gun shot may ring, but in the thirty years I have been hunting the shots on opening day in 7J start ringing out about a half hour before legal light.. -
Different strokes for different folks Some places it works like a charm, other places not so good.. We used to drive it resulted in a lot of small bucks , wounded deer , and buttons bucks .. The woods we pushed deer rarely walked ,, they were always in a hurry or running for there life.. But it does for sure work and some nice bucks taking by those drives ..
-
Also not sure of the time you are hunting .. Try hunting near the bedding zone in the 10 to 2 range of the day.. They do not lay down all day..
-
10 deer are not going to eat only at your 2 acre food plot , seems like you answered your own question ??? Find out where they are going and end up at 7.00 or legal light , if that is your property setup there ..
-
Two days ago I climbed up in my tree stand at 3.00 I had 3 does beded 60 yards from me ,, They got up at around 4.10 in 20 minutes till 4.30 they moved a total of about 100 yards .. And then it was time to get down... Got to get close to the bedding zone

F-decoys, scare crows! Odd hunting tactics
Bowshotmuzzleloader replied to thunnus's topic in Deer Hunting
My friend and his son hang orange vests in trees on opening day near the property line to keep the people from the other property from wandering to close when they drive .. They had a problem with this previously , but the last two years it has seemed to work and create a boundary that they won't cross now, they see the vest figure it's a guy sitting and give some space ... -
Although it's interesting ??? That source is on par with the Enquirer, I would believe any of it!!!! http://worldnewsdailyreport.com Have a look at the headlines

People who bow hunt are much better all around hunters in my opinion !!! -
Morals and ethics Hunting used to be a way to teach morals and ethics and to be a good person though the outdoors .. Now it's like Walmart on the day the social service debit cards get credited...

+1 on that
