Prayers and my heart goes out to you and his family in these tough tough times...Just let him know how much you love him...Even if you think he can't hear or understand...he will...

With long stretches of cold and rain they need to keep up their energy by with food, They go low to stay out of winds and look forward pockets. That's here on the hill.

So live from the computer because...I forgot to turn the sound back on my phone!!! yes the phones my alarm and Mr B's alarm was set for 6a.m. because he has a Dr. appointment this morning,It is absolutely gorgeous out there too. I didn't want to push any early birds from that stand so opted out...maybe later we'll see.
-
Yep that was this morning...You think maybe I should be there tomorrow?..Hen yesterday ,him today...and BTW went to Rivers blind. for last 2 hrs of season Who shows up after I start calling? you guessed it..but he left when he saw me walking away...He doesn't even hunt...lol So the blind in the picture will be where I go....
-
Ha...same here, turned alarm off at 3:45 got up at 5:30. May hit the woods in an hour, skies are clearing.
-
Wait...blink then check again...lol

Ya I know the station says it's 48 here...all three thermometers are saying 42....I can guarantee if ours says 15...we'll be 10 or lower we usually run 5 degrees colder any how..
-
Well they were a tad off again...Because I thought I might get a mowing in and went out to remove half the woods from the lawn first...I just came back in after first getting soaked then pelted with hail then soaked again. When the faint sound of a freight train (winds) approached I figured the limbs can wait...not mowing now anyways...BTW..I feel like an ice cycle... Now the good thing...This will keep them out there breeding longer in the month, I think...

Congrats! Great hunt and bird It's crazy when they are that close...yesterday I was breathing so hard that is all I could hear and I swore they should have heard it too...lol Turkey hunting is so much fun! You had a plan and stuck to it Kudo's -
Well this isn't good for nesting!...look at Thursdays 5-4-17

I went to Rivers blind for a late morning hunt...got 2 hens set out and started calling...A bit later I hear a tractor lumbering up the road...I knew the second I heard it, The neighbor.. his house is on another road a 1/2 mile away and his access to his lane way is next to us...He drives up unhooks the chain gets the tractor a little ways in then does a u turn and parks. Steps into the hedge row right next to his nephews "1 acre hunting camp" and starts sawing away...sat for a while glassing his place to see what his activity might get moving. Nothing I closed up the blind went out and grabbed the decoys and brought them to the blind for tomorrow morning...It's going to be cold tonight low 30s the birds will hang low in his swamp and move up hill in the morning. I pushed a lone hen on my side hill on the way down...I believe she may be nesting there...caught this pic of a lone hen This morning( cam with bad date and now time stamp) I was hunting at the south borderline had to walk past this on way in and out...Wonder if she had any Toms around her?
-
Had birds all around me but but not near enough...May have been busted by one behind me...I was set up with 2 decoys in my woods but near the farmers field.. not one Bird in the field. This a.m. they were all in the woods. Then the black flies hit..I came in. It was much colder this a.m. and I that the flies wouldn't show up..no such luck..snow is due Wednesday maybe that will help. A bit under dressed so in for break and another layer.

Better have fruit this year!!
growalot replied to Fletch's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
darn near all the fruit trees are in blossom even some young wild ones...the plums look like clouds the blk cherry ,both cultivated and wild are loaded...I love a good wild blk. cherry. The strawberries wild and even in the patch are all in blossom. Now all trees...why I can't stop coughing and my sinuses are flowing.... have kept everything out side and in covered in a lime green layer of pollen. This should means the maples and ash are going to dump whirlies big time this year. -
So you've read me complaining about the black flies this year...I had a good hunt this morning, it could have been fantastic had I not been eaten alive by BFs. This is a real problem for me this year I literally can not leave the house with out a full head net on ,which is a royal pain...I just went out to get rid of my turkey carcass with out it and I'm exhausted..the swatting and pure aggravation...is too much. Thermacell has always been a God send, but not this year...So Do any of you have true remedies for these nasty little so and so's... Also is anyone else having the problems we are with them this year? BTW They have a talent for biting the crap out of my hands this year too and my ears and I have long hair...PS the dogs and the cats ears are swollen and scabbed over their faces aren't looking so hot either with swelling.

Nice Job!...I don't think I was that good at that age KUDO'S

So it was the opening morning " give me a break fest" which I have now come to expect over the years...I get to my spot last minute decision permethrin on clothes and thermacell lantern going. The black flies didn't care, it was bad once it got light. I no sooner sat and I got a coughing jag, not a little one I mean coal miners cough type.....that finally subsides and my sinuses are flowing like the Niagara river and I'm about to go home ...When I hear some faint clucks...long and short of it very faint gobbles to my right and behind me...2 far off shots from same direction...I'm doing purrs and clucks and the occupational(occasional)LOL hen gobble and yelp...when I hear a twirp purr behind me and I start to get ready...I cant lift the gun up because I have no idea which end of blind they will show...in the mean time I hear a gobble above me. I wait and wait then do some clucks and a soft yelp that's when I hear the snapping...and the black flies are in my eyes and biting my forehead. To my left out pops a hens head... I think greatThen 1,2,3,4,5,6, red heads come right in behind her and they are between 1 and 10 ft from the blind eyes in every single direction All jakes....I watch them for a bit and feel another coughing jag starting to erupt...Well that sealed the deal. I had the closest one to me go behind a sapling and I shouldered the gun, he of course saw it as did all the others. He was a good 12 ft away running, bam ! WTH clean miss,Seriously! He swings around and comes back as I look over to see his buddies still standing there...I swung the gun and dropped the first bird the bead hit.....Didn't that gang of 5 remaining come back to circle stomp their dead buddy. I watched this a little bit until I hear Gobble Gobble and here comes the long beards I think I had played with at Rivers blind...which was directly behind me on the other side of the woods. Well they past, but those Jakes were still hanging in 15 ft away making quite the stink. I got up and they went up the hill but still stayed yelling at me...they'd run back towards the blind then back up the hill...I have never seen that before ,they weren't letting it go. So I did something I normally won't do especially opening day or even here..Camp yes it's too far a drive to come home empty handed... not as much meat but it should taste great... my next hunt will need to be from an enclosed blind not brush...,any black fly remedies out there? 1/2 in. buttons and 3 1/2 in beard 16#'s... here he is and pic of birds with the blind I was in in the back ground.

So this is the cam I can't get the correct date to stay on...but the time is right It took a couple of hours but I see at least one showed up. Now lets see if he likes the area...ponds where he is headed Gosh darn it...It said it copied the file...should have double checked! I delete my cards before ejecting them. If it did I don't know where it sent it! Any ways the pic was my blind in the back ground and him walking past the camera about a 6-7 in beard ...
