  3. I want to give the Livingston County Sheriffs a call out.. Thanks for the patrol...I was going up the hill from my morning walk and picking up a push spreader I had down the hill when I notice a Sheriffs car going ever so slowly along our road frontage...I gave him a wave and continued on... I see the received my E-mail and appreciate the looking....
  4. Mosquito, ticks and black flies, OMG the black flies are BAD!!!!!, aren't the only things to look out for in the spring turkey woods...Black bear, you guys with young-ins out there should go over the do's and don't in a bear encounter...especially sitting on the ground in the woods. I came across some rather big bear scat right next to one of my brush blinds...This got me thinking.... stay safe and have fun...
  5. Well I waited and........ not one of you mentioned the most important safety "equipment" you should have ...before even thinking of putting on all the rest and heading to the woods A SHARP CHAIN I have 5 I rotate out when working...a dull chain will eventually land you in trouble, no way around it...
  6. Well the kids should have a good weekend...no rain and warmer temps for them.
  7. They had a rough time sun's been up for a while and its still nearly dead quiet out there. Rain most of day then thundeistorms in the evening and rain most of nght...I believe they are all still sleeping. Must have been a pretty rough night...The Pileted just woke but he is not doing his normal thing...very quiet rappity rap rap with long pauses..lol How is the hunting after a day /night like that? I hunt during rains love to, but do not recall hunting after a day /night long rain storm.
  8. Breakfast for dinner, poached eggs on marblel rye toast, home fries, turkey breakfast sausage, fresh cut musk melon.
  9. Make a gravy serve over mash potatoes ......or mix with veggies and a gravy ,put in a buttered oven proof dish...cover with mashed potatoes ,sprinkled with cheese and bake..Shepherds pie. Tacos,burritos.....
  10. I have a boomerang shaped brush fence that is at the head of the gully.. built it years ago. I then planted a 10 -15 ft. wide plot around the open end of it and down one side..the other side is part of the trail I'm going to plant this year. The inside of this boomerang I let to grow wild..what has been coming up through the considnrable leaf litter is a wonderful wild raspberry stand. Nearly a 1/3 of the area has turned into raspberry bushes..the deer sign is fantastic. It is a quiet protected area they have an opening in the middle to pass through the fence and right now WR to much on. The pond area is in front, the clover plot I sprayed is 150 ft. away. We several producing apples near by and a huge may Apple patch in front of it next to the pond. I think this berry patch will become a bedding area for them. I can hardly wait to see what unfolda there this year...just one change in an areas land scape can produce big changes in movement...blackberries may have been a better draw but we'll see.
  11. Today was a bust for the lime...rains came way early and it's been pouring most of the day. Hell of a thunder storm at the moment. I did get out and do a bit more rock work and raked most of the 1/4 portion I still needed to do...just leaf cover for now...rocks next. I got some brush cleaned up and on a new fence line. Checked what sprayed and. It is working all ready on a bunch of stuff. This will stunt the clovers for week or two, but once I see most of the grasses and weeds dying back I will hit it with fertilizer.
  12. We have the whole deal I can't wear gloves and to be honest, when doing big stuff will not wear hearing protection...I need to hear what that tree or limb is about to do. Eye protection is a must be it safety glasses or the wire mesh face shield. Even my eye glasses are safety glass.
  13. In these winds here I've had blinds out all year with no issues I tie to trees and logs..but this one was just out drying and I wore myself out and forgot about it sitting in the drive. As you can see from my brush pile fencing...I have more then enough wood..I don't need more in my trails..Lol.
  14. If your looking for land the County has all info downloadable for 5.00 a brochure....you can call the county clerks office for all info...
  15. That's one smart deer...see's the hunting blind at the end of lane way and starts practicing it's dodging bullet maneuvers early... He'll be one dodgy critter by fall Seriously though...if your black flies are anything like ours right now...I know exactly how he feels
  16. SPRAYED WITH 41% GLYSOPHATE AT A 2% TO WATER SPRAY. No moss doesn't necessarily mean low PH what it does mean always, is a cold and wet soil which being up at 1900ft and with highly moist soils you get moss and lower sunlight...We have moss growing on the sides of live trees, our roofs, rocks you name it moss will grow there in this area. no lime doesn't kill it, what lime does is encourage better growth of the plants you want...Though here even the thickest growing clovers just can't out compete the moss If I do not use enough iron and sulfates to kill the moss..our woodland floor is covered in it and the spores go everywhere..our wonderful winds. I have 20# if moss out ready to go in a couple of places...BTW I naturally add at least a bag per small plot ,of lime every year...leaf litter and just rain fall in woodland plots raise the ph yearly. Increasing potassium and iron is beneficial and when growing clovers the fertilizer I use is either 0-20-20 or 10-20-20...I do not want high nitrogen in a clover plot producing nitrogen...that just causes weeds...This said, plots with moss problems and no legumes would benefit from high nitrogen to reduce moss. Iron can raise ph so you need to adjust accordingly. I use Milorganite to keep deer off plots and fertilize with iron..thus another reason I add lime yearly.
  17. Yesterday I finished raking all but 1/4 of the new plot. I'll call the gully plot. It sits on the ridge just above the beginnings of the gully. I also shoveled and moved 6 rock piles. Today is foggy wet with rain due a bit later . So I will load up the Gator with several bags of lime and the hand push spreader. I can not plant this plot quite yet. Each raking produced New growth. Nearly all of it being the invasive Chinese garlic plant. I need to let that seed germination and grow a bit before killing it..I also found two tiny apple tree seedlings..Will make hardware wire cages to protect them for now. Not sure if they are regular, crab or thorn Apple's yet...should know next year.
  18. And there it is...They are shock gobbling down on the hunters place and our back woods to the pounding of the pileted. There are at least 5 spread out from us down the hill at least 3 properties. Two close ones had deep gurgling type gobbles. At one point they all let loose sounding like those hand held church bells all sounding off perfectly one after the other and with different notes! Now that is how to start the day. I was hoping they may come up close enough for pictures but there is a very thick fog here. Probably why they were singing as they were.
  19. One time when these pesky leg cramps did me a solid...lol..thankfully I had closed the window openings .other wise someone on the other side of the valley may have gotten a new blind this a.m....lol
  20. I shot a doe during bow season right behind the house. I knew the hit was very low and a bit foreward. She did a wide loop and headed down to the neighbors down hill. Iwaited an hour and started out on the trail it was getting dark and I was on a light trail. Dark fell and I was headed down hill and trying to keep my bearings with our house lights and the neighbors when I looked up and couldn't see either. A bit later I lost her trail doubled back circled around ,doubled back again and lost my markers as well. Turned off my light and realized I had no idea where or how far I'd gone. I actually got a bit panicked...for I couldn't tell how far away a few red lights were, turned out miles away. When I spotted a halogen light set up the hill some distance away. I started walking towards it when I heard Mr B call out. He realized what had happened and set the work lights up behind the garage for me to see. Went back out the next day found my arrow but the blood trail completely stopped ...circled and zig zagged never found another sign. Found out that day how quick the night can swallow you up,even in your own back yard , as it were.
  21. I May be in some luck..the farmer came up yesterday and sprayed the WW. I assume with fungicide and or insect killer...the Winter grains in this area have smut, and wire worm / army worm issues as well as rusts Mildred...ect.,etc. This spraying May keep them off the open fields and on our place for a while.
  22. I blew the picture up and spurs are well above the toes.. spur and pointed...usually here they tend to be rounded.
  23. Only one good pic but the second one shows at least 2 toms near cam the partial blue head and another with tail feathers at half mast I blew up the one Tom pic...he has some nice sharp spurs...I never see that here...not sure what the one near those 2 young bucks are BTW major forehead swelling and small bumps...I notice older buck get a whole forehead swell and the young ones individual bumps at first...have you guys noticed this?
  24. No need...poster with : Police & dog warden call. If you own or know who does get them under control. They chased me to my house! Then said where they are running. It's as good as a hit.
