Remy. Semi Auto or Pump in 30 -06/ 180 gr. or 220 gr. will do the job in the woods also.

That should knock em down.

It seems every year I do a little more clearing do to trees coming down or too much young growth.I have planted a number of small pieces anywhere from 10' X 20' to 50' X 100' with different types of seeds. There is not a large herd in my area and I do find the deer and few turkeys move from plot to plot during there travel threw my property. It seems that they do like the mixture of different plants. On the farms fields around me I do see large flocks of turkeys after spreading of manure or cutting of the crops but not a large heard of deer only a few at a time.So you might be right on the amount of acreage for the herd size.

Bolt action 30 -06,You can get factory ammo from 110 grain to 220 grain.Plus a bolt action is easy er to brake down and clean then a lever action. There is also a large selection of brands and models in 30 -06.

Did some more clearing the end of last year, planted a mixture of clover's last month it is up about 2". Another spot planted with clover last week just popped out. Also cleared up a little spot and planted some buckwheet just to see if it will come up it is also looking good. With the rain and warm weather this weekend they should rely pick up,

splitg2 way is very good.No weeding and animal proof.Did you ever think of using plastic drainage pipe cut into the height that you want.It would cheaper for a length of pipe then the tree tubes.

Pine trees that need support.
Gthphtm replied to First-light's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
A white spruce is not a Pine tree.I have a number of spruce trees from 3' to 60' tall never had to support any of them.Find some fertlizer mad for that type of tree and feed it before it gets too warm out.Now or Next Spring. -
You are should have added hot pepper powder and or spicy hot sauce to the egg and water, that works for me.

The last time I went on one in N.Y. I was still living down state,a weekend deal,Never Again,The guy set me up every day in two you would think good spots in apple orchards,Did Not see Anything all weekend.Go back to his house after the 2 nd. day and here he comes up his driveway with an 8 point buck on his atv.

12 Gauge # 4 Dead Coyote.Works every time.

We have timber rattlers here in the Castkills also when they were logging my property they brought back one 3' long.
-
It must be nice for these to be able to sit in a tree house or whatever on the edge of a farm field with a heard of deer out there eating and be able to pick the deer out that you want to shoot with and be able to place the shot where you want with your .243.

I have been using loops on all of my Recurve,Long and Compound Bows for over 10 years.Because of a injury to my right hand.I could no longer draw any of my bows with my fingers,So I decided to use a release with loops on my bow strings.I only use the material sold for making the loops,Not what He used in the vidio.I do heat the ends of the material with a lighter,I have not had one come loose at all and all of my strings are not worn or fraied.Just keep them waxed.

Try it in a crock pot wit vegies.

One of the most accurate out of the box bolt action rifles i have had was a Remington 700 bull barrel .243 caliber.I think it was a BDL model because of the fancy wood stock it had on it.This was a very long time ago.I only went to the range with it never took it hunting. At that time we were doing a lot of stalking type hunting and it was too heavy to carry all day.
-
I have had just about every standard hunting and benchrest caliber threw the years.Since I do my own reloading. My present deer rifle I use where I live.In the Catskill area is a 358 Win. caliber,it will take a bear down up to 200 yds.And the deer I hit did not go to far with the 225 grain bullet I use.If I hunted in a more open area where long shots are possible I would use my 270 WSM or my 6.5 x 284 for the long shots both are with 140 grain bullets.
-
All depend on shot placement, the 243 more so then the 30 - 06.If you reload you can get bullets from 110 grain to 220 for the 30 - 06.

Had a Tom walk right past the bedroom window 6:30 this morning just before it started to rain.My lab sat there staring out the window all excited.

Hunting Rifles(Bolt action)
Gthphtm replied to dirt_a_KISS's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Also look into the Ruger 77,I am very impressed with there bolt action 22mag.that i nave,It is a tack driver at 100 yds.,I also have a very early 10 - 22 ,it is also accurate compaired to others. The Sako is one that I would buy if it is in your budget.I had a Tika Hunter one of the first ones out in 30-06 it shot pretty good and was fairly light.- 40 replies

Elmo, your right about the ring finger.I was thinking about my pinky because I busted two joints in it trying to catch a hard ball when I was a kid.
-
Did my middle finger right hand, just the tip after the nail on an old foot powered pexto sheet metal shear, left foot slid on a piece of scrap metal as I was pushing a piece of sheet metal into the blade, finger went into one of the slots in the hand guard, right foot was on the pedal and the blade went down,it was a nice clean cut.I took the tip to the doctor and he threw it in the garbage. He said if it gets infected I will have to cut more off. This was a long time ago.Just lucky it was not a thumb or a pinkey, they are the 2 most important fingers.

nyantler, last year I york raked up an area in the woods, put seed and some fertlizer down, the grass started to come up,then the ferns took over. This year I raked again and went to 2 different stores and asked how to stop the ferns from coming back,They both said put down plenty of LIME.We will find out in a month or two if it works.
-
You want to try something and not that expensive, put plenty of lime down. And do the manual labor part of what Doc said. The chemicals are most efficent at 70 or more degrees,We are going down into the 30's tonight. A world standard most of everything made by man is made to work it's best at 70 - 72 degrees.
-
But do it on a nice day, that spot in the picture can bee pretty scary in bad weather.
-
If you insist on having a 243 caliber,Do not cheap out,buy the best you can afford. If it was going to be a rifle to be used for more then one type of game and a once in a lifetime rifle.I would save my pennies and by a good quality rifle like a Sako. You would never regret it.
