  1. I would advise going to a archery shop, not a big box store and try as Doc said a lighter bow as 45 lbs. and a 50 lb.bow and the one you think you can shoot the 55 lb. bow.Do it this way draw the bow to full draw, In your case 30 " and hold it at full draw for 1 minute to 2 minutes, that will tell you what weight bow to buy for now.Did you ever have a nice size deer with a rack that you wanted walk behind a tree looking around.Chances are if you relax the bow you might not get it back to a shooting position when it walks out. It's not like a compound. You will be working muscles for a longer period of time and might be able to hold and shoot a higher powered bow in the future.I have been using carbon arrows with all of my bows,Don't try to hit the same spot on the target when practicing,Robin Hoods get expensive.I would shoot around 50 arrows every day, weather permitting all year.Level ground,up and down hill off of the deck.Try all different positions, standing, sitting, kneeling, shooting to the right and the left, not just straight ahead. You never know where that, deer, turkey, rabbit or what ever else is going to be.
  2. I have a Bushnell,For years used mostly at my range, take it to and from bouncing in a tool box on my atv has held up well.As said make sure you get a goo tripod to keep it steady.
  3. Actually that thing would do a great job on cutting tree stumps right down to the ground, even look as if it has a carbide tipped blade.you would have to use it before the ground softens up with the small wheels on it.The one thing you want to do if you are cutting down trees to put in a plot is to get that Stump as close to the Ground as you can.The ones that are sticking up 3" or more are going to tear up your mower decks and transmissions and knock the tines right off of the yorke rakes and the tines for them go for over $10.00 each.Renting a machine ( remember you pay for what you brake).
  4. For me the cost of the tractor has paid off,I did not buy it just for food plots,I have built hundreds of feet of stone retaning walls some as high as 10" tapering to 4",back filling the walls and reparing existing walls. The clearing pieces for food plots is 2 fold as I burn around 10 cords of wood each year to heat my house and garage. The tractor wit a front loader is the best money ever spent.I went the tow behind route with the ATV,with a yorke rake I had to secure 4 8 inch cement blocks to it for weight to even brake the ground.Took it apart and made a 3 point hitch setup for the tractor.I also use the tractor for moving snow in the winter off of my 200' of driveway. As Lawdwaz said ; Can't put a price on personal satisfaction. As looking out the window now and watching the deer scraping one of the plots behind the house looking for food.
  5. Well grow. at 72 I am still adding more also ( remember I just asked about a corn plot ) For me it's a heating pad + Ben - gay.
  6. It all depends on what type of land you are going to put your plots in, is it acres of open farm land or is it heavly wooded and rocky land. Also your age and health is a factor on how you are going to do it.A 20 to 40 year old can do a lot more then a 50 to 70 year old.
  7. Also show me an ATV that can lay a 3" to 6" dia. tree down on its side and pull it's root ball out of the ground in the clay and rocky soil that we have. That's how I have been clearing my plots. No tree stumps and no roots.
  8. We did that walk behind deal for a few years at a friends place it does wear you down.As said a used tractor with a 3 point hitch is the way to go. 4 wheel drive one is even better.
  9. The OFA is predicting another snow storm the end of the month. Took a ride around the property, saw a few deer and 1 porkeypine ,fox must be sleeping .
  10. Got everything plowed, going to hop on the sled and look for some yotes and fox..
  11. Look's like L.I. is still getting hammered according to the news. Some places have 24" already. We lucked out here on the side of the mountian only 6" - 8" but very windy.
  12. Restaurant supply also, the meat or veggies do not know what is cutting them I had the fancy ones now I use Dexter brand. The Japs most likley sharpen theres the way razor blades are sharpened ( with a Paper wheel ).But they do make the best high priced swords an knives.
  13. Thanks growalot, I do not think I have the problem with the deer population as you do. A lot of small pieces of property and too many if it's brown attitude.
  14. I have been using Marine Grade Sta-bil ever since it came out also used Marine Grade Fogging Oil at the end of the season.Stable takes care of the fuel system,Fogging oil Lubes the cylinders piston and rings.Every thing works and runs fine.
  15. Grow. You said you are broadcasting the seed ?. Are you tilling first ,broadcasting the seed with a spreader ?. Then how are you covering the seed ?.Are you just dragging something over the ground ?.
  16. I only want an 1/2 acre corn plot, 110' x 110' or 110' x 220' which would be better?.Should I use rounup beforehand ?.
  17. X2 on what grow. said,Three years after my property was logged, thorn bushes and blackberry bushes grew everywhere.I just went with my JD with the bucket on the front and cut trails for to walk threw the areas. The deer and other animals use them every day and when the blackberries are in season thy stop and fill there bellies.I did dig a small pond which the use also. They do also bed in some of the thicket areas.

    D-Loop

I have them on all of my bows for the last 10 years due to a hand injury and I never had one come loose, the first one was done by a pro shop and the other 8 I have done.
  19. When you redo that wooden thing, First you want to make something that lets you be in a comfortable shooting position. That thing might be good for shooting down hill laying on the ground..If you go to a shooting range most targets are at least the height of the shooting bench. Most front rests are higher then the rear and the rear of the stock is sitting on or in some type of padded or sand bag. Most are just used for sighting in a rifle or bench res type shooting. Plus remember it is illegal in NYS to shoot from or on a motor vehicle.Car,Truck,ATV or what ever.If you want something for hunting buy a set of shooting sticks and practice wit them. That target at 50 yards ?. Are you flinching or jurking the trigger and not pulling it in one steady motion
  20. That answer is NO.It was never stated what type and weight bow was used to check the draw length. If a person can only draw 50 pounds and a 60 pound bow was used, the proper draw length will not be reached. Is that any clearer.
  21. Draw length at how many pounds. You should find out how many pounds you are comfortable pulling and holding, then measure the draw length after that.AS you can take a 40 pound bow and draw 29" then take a 60 pound bow and only draw 27".
  22. Just enough to make it pretty outside here 1" - 2",looks like flurries all week maby another 1" -2" tomorrow night. But not enough to use the sled.Deer have been scraping and eating at all of the clover plots.
  23. Rain washed 99% of it away.
