How long did it take for you to get fruit on the chestnuts? I planted 8 about four or five years ago, and another Dunstan this past spring, none yet.
We planted in 2013 and saw the first nut production in 2018 so a good 5 seasons. I always added fertilizer spikes around each tree in the spring. The last few years I started adding manure around each tree also.

Good job, Miz….However, you're wasting your time..Ain't no deer in Greenwood... I know because I lived in Whitesville for a couple of years....No deer there either, or turkeys...You might better go someplace like Long island...I hear there are lots of deer down there...
No deer in Steuben County, I agree everyone should hunt Long Island

Nice progress. Any buck kills for all your hard work the last 6 years?
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkBiz, I actually missed a really nice 8 point last year cuz I got the buck fever. We've taken 5 does so far and its been a work in progress. I really want to thicken up the edges around the road frontage. I added 2 additional rows of spruce trees staggered so in about 20 years it should be a nice wall blocking the road. haha We also plan on planting about 20 more fruit and nut trees this coming spring and I always have to order at least 50 Norway Spruce trees.

looks good from the pictures. did the screening come out okay? that's really important to keep people honest. don't see spruce in the road pic.
It's kinda hard to see but I let most of the field grow up but the pines are there. They are about 6 feet tall, some are shorter.

Next time I drive by I will be sure to wave!
Feel free to stop by and say hello. We’ve always got good food and strong drinks at camp. We will be there Veterans Day weekend.

I go up and hunt it once or twice a year. The fields up top are usually planted in corn or beans. This year it’s beans and they have been tearing it up there.
We also sometimes do a drive from the top down to our place and try and kick something up during gun season.

I actually had got them from Walmart they are the Dunstan Chestnut from Chestnut Hill. They do a yearly shipment and post the stores where they send them to. I got mine in Hornell NY or maybe it was somewhere in PA. Can’t remember

I thought I would bring this thread back 6 years later and show some progress on the tree growth.
This spring I took down the protection around each tree and when I showed up to camp I had a few rubs so I had to add the tree tubes again and protect them.

Just showed up to my spot. Stopped at the camera to pull the card and it was gone. I guess just locking the camera to the tree is not enough, I need to get a small lock for the place where the memory chip goes.
What kind of A$$ hole do you have to be to take someone’s memory chip.

Had a pretty successful Friday. After driving up from Virginia through the night I got to the cabin around 530am got in the tree stand by 6.
I ended up doubling up that day even though it snowed much of the day. It was an awesome day.

This is one of those stands I can’t find to save my freaking life. Once again I blow out the entire woodlot zig zagging to it

You need OnX Maps man you can mark your stand and walk to it no problem in the dark.
Hey, if you don’t know about the onX Hunt app, you should. Check it out here: https://huntsmarter.app.link/vtXifMi1vR

My property has a fair amount of cattail swamps. Points out in the swamp like those marks are always good options. During the rut, the bucks will also run transition lines downwind of the swamp scent checking. Often you will find heavily used doe trails near the transition. The bucks will run a parallel trail slightly further downwind. Scent is critical. Use good access and hunt good winds or you will blow them out. Even more so than Hill country. Good luck. Boots on the ground tell the rest.
Thanks moog great advice. It looked like a crazy hub right near the transition zone between the point and where the swamp was so I know the does run east and west I assume the bucks are bedding on some of the high spots and actually found a few bed in there when I found the rub and scrapes. I think I will set up right on the transition when I get a good wind.

are the red markers identified beds?
No a few of them are marked with a tree stand icon for possible stand locations. I also found a scrape and rub in one of the locations as well.

Interested to hear how people would hunt this spot? I am thinking about setting up on the point next to the transition zone as there are trails just below going in every direction. One issue is the wind is usually coming from the North West blowing into the bedding area. I would have to hunt it when its a West or South West wind
I also could get a little more aggressive and move down into the swamp and set up in one of the small tree islands. There is an island further south that I think is great bedding for a large buck.
Let me know your thoughts.

This is actually in Virginia on a military base. I live and work in VA and just started hunting the base last year. The season down here goes all the way into January which is awesome.
Still plan on hunting the rut up in NY with my old man.

Called 1-877-846-9997 and canceled my SCORE Card Membership and made sure to leave a note for the management team and the CEO.
They had a message that they were experiencing unusually high call volumes and I had to wait only about 5 minutes to get someone on.
They lost a customer for life.
I won't be surprised if that CEO is gone by year end and if sales revenue drops by 30%

I may be interested, I would have two adults and my son who is interested in getting into hunting.
Barry send me a private message with your number and we can talk over the phone.
Are you close by or would you be driving a ways?
Would you be interested in putting in food plots?
Thanks for your interest.

Lease available for 2018 in Steuben County close to town of Greenwood. Looking for a max of 2 hunters (flexible if you have kids and would like them to hunt as well).
I would like to open this up to responsible hunters who have a passion for hunting and whitetails. I am trying to give back to the land and create new deer habitat every year. Looking for hunters that will treat the place like their own and enjoy the time out in the woods. Lots of wildlife (Bear, Deer, Turkey, Grouse, Fox, Coyote, etc.)
21 Acres
Walking distance to State Land (Rock Creek State Forest) and short ride to Turkey Ridge SF, and Greenwood SF where you can enjoy several thousand acres of hunting land.
Several treestands on the property.
Fall foodplots will be going in around July/August 2018 (3 Acres)
Apple, Pear, Chestnut Tree Plots established and producing fruit as of 2017
If you are interested and would like more information please let me know.
