  1. that's a cool story Core. Did you not gut him? That will generally tell you if you hit vitals. Also know that if you hit an artery he might have just bled out internally. Has happened to many of us.
  2. congrats again. double or single lung?
  3. I dont doubt that this has happened, but I believe it's the exception for a deer hit within the hour. In fact, you'd probably hear some pretty vocal yotes so they might even help you find your deer haha.
  4. thanks all. not a good day for the deer woods, so i'm spending it doing my other favorite activity. work. haha.
  5. more than just a campfire story https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/ENV/11-0110 Section 11-0110Interference with lawful taking of wildlife prohibited Environmental Conservation (ENV) 1. As used in this section "wildlife" means wild game and all other animal life existing in a wild state, including fish, shellfish and crustacea, and "process of taking", in addition to any act described in subdivision thirteen of section 11-0103 of this article, includes travel, camping, and other acts preparatory to taking, which occur on lands or waters upon which the affected person has the right or privilege to take such wildlife. 2. A person is guilty of interfering with the lawful taking of wildlife when, with intent to prevent the taking of wildlife, in season, in a place where hunting, fishing or trapping is lawful, and by a person properly licensed to take such wildlife, he: (a) strikes, shoves, kicks or otherwise subjects the licensed person to physical contact, or attempts or threatens to do the same; or (b) follows the licensed person in or about such place and engages in a course of conduct or repeatedly commits acts which alarm or seriously annoy such licensed person and which serve no legitimate purpose. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, no one shall be arrested for violation of this section by other than a duly designated peace officer acting pursuant to his special duties, or a police officer.
  6. i hear ya. But there is a lot of paperwork involved to get any area's classification changed. I believe they would have even needed to do a public comment period. And maybe they did. that's why i'd look. because exactly to your point, maybe they figured they'd just put up a sign and nobody would care. I guess, I just hate to see sportsman lose land and opportunities when it's so few are far between already. We pay good money to hunt the state's resources and for one landlord to get any area shut down would require more than just a phone call. At least it should.
  7. so did they change the law, or is some tree hugger f'n with you? I'd definitely do some research online before i believe a sign. and if it contradicts the sign, i'd print it out and bring it with me.
  8. yeah if one was off, then something up. there is a chance it's one of those class balloons hung up on something... but dang I'd have gone and had a look for sure.
  9. I do have a cam on it, but don't have access to any pics right now. They were definitely munching on it pretty good the last pull a few weeks ago.
  10. So I hunted this stand for the first time since the we put in the plot yesterday morning. My dad has some trail cam pics that show more vegetation than this. So either the deer are nailing it, or the lack of sun has hurt the plot. Not sure what to expect, although this is a pretty sheltered spot so i didn't expect a putting green. I'll see if i can upload some trail cam pics. Hoping it was the deer destroying it, and not that it has died out some.
  11. how does curiosity not get you to check those balloons? as far as lack of pics, trail cams can be finicky, could just be a setting or cam issue. but also could be someone messing with him.
  12. so glad to see those pics! congrats man. Like I said, even what you think could be a bad hit, might not be true at all... and vice versa. Does look a little high and back from the "bulls eye" but still a damn nice shot within the paper plate.
  13. He is a liberal upset with the Kavenaugh pick. He is on a hunger strike until "change".
  14. is it possible? yes. Is it low prob? yes. I never even liked the shotgun at that angle. rifle and mz only for me. Archery is about cutting, not about destruction.
  15. i'm not sure i'd let a handicap stop me from trying to pound some doe ass haha. I've also had the arrow clinker, that sucks. To your question, i've never really seen agression that early. Sparing for sure. From talking with all my buddies, it seems friday night was the night to be out. lots of good action before the front.
  16. if it was high and the arrow fell out there's a good chance he's fine. Not mortally wounded and nothing that will bother him in the long run. That said, with adrenaline pumping i've had a few shots I thought were off on impact and ended up being double lungers. My best buck was shot high but at a steep downward angle. so it went down into the vitals and not missing them from a flatter shot. He only went 30 yards and expired. As mentioned, your arrow will tell a great deal.
  17. disagree. Especially on 10/4 and especially on a 4. I can understand dropping a nice 2.5 year old 8 early, but if you want to start lowering your standards a week before halloween is the right time. But 4 days into the season? Man that'd suck to have a booner walk out during the rut while you're doe only hunting. Even if that strategy means tag soup.
  18. considering it's front shoulder I actually agree with the wife. Not worth any bacteria/metal contamination.
  19. you'd be surprised how well scent killer spray works on stinky gym clothes and shoes. give them a good liberal spray and i bet they're a lot better.
  20. I actually think you both make good points, but they're lost with the poo flinging. Yes college is more expensive and kids have more debt then they did before the 80's. But yes the economy is doing really well and opportunities are everywhere. If you choose to get a degree in communications from a private 4 year school, then that's on you and your parents. Personally I got a bs in engineering from a state school, still came out with a bunch of loans but turned it into a nice career. I think you're both pointing to extremes. Kids don't "need" college. It's not for everyone and not every degree that's offered is worth the cost. The nation continues to suffer from a lack of doctors, nurses and skilled trades... yet more kids keep enrolling in law school. A market that is flooded. shrugs
  21. Just locally here in wayne and monroe their is constantly more land being developed. I get it, people want new. Contractors need the work and the old homesteads are dying because the kids inherit property that they dont need and can sell for money. But our population keeps shrinking and I keep wondering why we need to continue to build. I think that's why I like those home rehab shows so much. Take what is already fine and just fix it up till it's like new. A lot of those Ryan homes have a reputation for a reason too.
  22. what would you do if you do stick one? I always hesitate to hunt those small windows in case I do get lucky or worse, wound one.
  23. also good to aim a little low if you have a steep angle (high in tree, deer is close). I almost lost 2 deer until I really learned this lesson. Both resulted in single lung instead of double due to the angle. or now that i think about it, maybe it's the other way around? lol idk
  24. With no disrespect meant (i hunted yesterday morning for a reference), I hate bowhunting in the rain for this very reason. makes an already difficult blood trail that much harder. Sorry to hear about the loss Chris. Moog can you save any meat or no?
