i've never understood the huge tree forts. if comfort is an issue then buy a gorilla stand and be done with it. but then again i dont even like ladder stands. the less you stick out the better imo.
-
i cant count on my hands how often these have happened to me.
-
totally agree. wouldn't be the hunter i am today without my dad, uncles and grandpa
-
or you could just hunt from a stand and then not worry about your bullets going hundreds of yards into unknown land
-
i agree. but unless i'm mistaken you can hunt alone at 16. it's 14and15 with a gun that you cannot hunt alone. I'm only 29 and the 14 age wasn't even in place 15 years ago.
-
congrats. that looks like some nice comfy ground. i might fall asleep there haha.

this sucks. It's one thing to end up on unposted land accidentally. It's another to cross posted lines knowingly and it's a whole new level to hunt the land after being booted. I dont get this as it ruins the pastime for many of us with nice private land. Last Monday I'm sitting in the stand and minding my business on some leased land and about 50 yards away a gun goes off and about knocks me out of the tree as i thought i was alone on a weekday. seconds later a doe comes running towards me and dies 30 yards from the stand. 30 minutes later 2 pumpkins in full orange jump suits come tracking her. Now we haven't kicked our neighbors off during gun, only bow so it's not like they were trespassing. But after talking with them we found out they're taking 6-10 deer a season on a 60 acre plot and now they're just pushing it and it makes the situation uncomfortable for my father and I. In general in the 2 places we hunt we find ourselves in conflicts every year and we're all in it for the same reason...

maybe a month ago he weighed 130. He looks closer to 120. But for this age deer, the smaller they are, the better they taste! they make cheaper versions, but this is a good investment for most hunters http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/After-the-Shot/Gambrels-Hoists-Scales|/pc/104791680/c/104689980/sc/104350680/Big-Game-330-lb-Digital-Scale/940388.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FN%3D1100182%26WTz_l%3DSBC%253BBRprd1206659&WTz_l=SBC%3BBRprd1206659%3Bcat104350680

use google earth's measuring tool. that's how i marked my distance from stand to houses.

i understand you wanting to keep the peace. I have some neighbors who walk on my property. i caught 2 of the daughters during bow season. i explained that they cant walk during hunting season as i have a stand there but that i dont mind them walking out of season eventhough i'd rather they not. just trying to keep the peace and it's always good to be friendly with neighbors. he could see someone robbing you blind and decide not to call it in because of the incident. most people are reasonable and if given a good reason why you're being the way you are will still be pissy but eventually understand.

that 18 year old thing doesn't make any sense. a 16 year old with s license can push...

hmmm first time i've seen "the wife" get ticketed. not that i'm advocating what they're doing but how these people get caught is amazing to me. i dont usually tag till i'm in the garage and it's only because there's so much going on. I dont see how an officer would ever know and we always do tag but it is something to consider. however, if you were stopped with a notched out tag attached tot he deer and explained you lost your pen i doubt you'd be ticketed. at the risk of generalizing. a lot of those guys are old school hunters shooting deer and knowing a few myself dont believe the law can tell them what they can and cant shoot and how they do it.
-
still standing in 8f. i'm glad as i'm tagged out. it'll save a lot of deer
-
you're being a baby. as long as the tree isn't dead or dying and it's root system looks good (not on a slope) than you should be fine. I have many stands 25-35 up and they all sway a little. It is freaky i'll give you that though. If it sways a lot in a light breeze it's probably not big enough to have a stand in.
-
congrats man. sometimes there's nothing sweeter than the unexpected shot.

would have called immediately. and if his cat is trapped in your barn than that isn't your problem. his cat is on your land.
-
pull up rope stops about 4' above the ground. pound a nail in the tree and keep tension on it to prevent the rope from being tangled when not in use. Honestly though i throw the gun sling over crossed over my chest and climb the 30'. use the pullup for my bow
-
retarded. nothing more. if you HAVE to hunt with a pistol at least pickup a long barrel high caliber.
-
you never know. all they have is tag data. they dont know who lied or who didn't. dont forget that at least around me the weather was crap. A nice weekend might make things interesting.
-
twilight is fun. every stump and downed tree appears to move and looks like a deer haha.
-
no. but you can use regular for late season.
-
as much of a hassle it can be, there's nothing like owning your land. leases can disappear as better offers are made or land is sold, state land can disappear or become infested with hunters. There's nothing like waking up, slamming a bowl of cereal and a cup of coffee and just walking out your back door. Much to the displeasure of my wife, we sacrificed quality of home to buy a place with land. In time we can fix up the aesthetics of the home as money becomes available, but there's noway im living in a track so that i can have a nicer kitchen but cant pee off my deck.

for sausage, jerky, salami etc there's no place better than costanzas. dude gets business from all over central and western ny http://www.costanzasausage.com/

looks like you hit him in the chest though unless i'm missing something. not trying to call you out, just curious if you tried for that or it just happened to end up that way
