    i think we are talking about two different things; The hinge pin holds the barrel to the receiver and if there is movement there, side to side or up and down then the accuracy will be off.

    with that kind of grouping i wouldn't worry about changing anything. do you reload? b/c if you don'y just think about the grouping you could get with reloads.

    well i agree with most post here but some are just not even close to be the turth. The best way to find out what your gun will shot is to go out and shot it from the bench and look at the paperwork for your bullet. most muzzleloaders start to drop after 100 yard with 100 gms of powder. i don't have a TC but i do have an CVA Apex; i looked at both and the reason i bought the apex is to make a TC shoot you have to spend a little more money, (www.bellmtcs.com) plus the apex was cheaper and shoots right out of the box. i have mine sighted in at 3in high at 100yds and i wouldn't be afraid to pull the trigger at 150 or 175 but at 200 yds i would want to make sure everything is perfect and yes at any distance a rest is nice. so go out and shoot and you will find what distance is good for you & your gun.

    I have my permit to hunt Cornell land. Deer hunting in the northern zone done in a couple of weeks but i still want to hunt deer so i think i'm heading down for muzzleloading and for the January season too. Again thanks for the help.

    a 7mm-08 in remington model 7 or mountain rifle model700 top with a nikon 3*9*40 is all the gun you will ever need for whitetail deer out to 250 to 300 yds. The recoil is that of a 243 and it hits a hard 30-06/308. I have drop many deer with the 7mm-08 and the two models i mention above are light; 6 to 7 pounds. also the savage lite, I thnik it is model 111, is a nice gun too.

    I'm thinking about heading down to Ithaca to hunt the muzzleloader season. In the northern zone deer hunting is over then so i might make the trip to hunt again with my CVA apex. Love hunting with this muzzleloader, it like hunting with a rifle- no problems out to 150 yds or more!! If anybody could head me in the right way it would be good. I have looked into the DEC web site found some state land and Cornell land but would like some hunters input. Thanks in advance.

    it is not about the horns, if you are proud of your deer then show it off. I have shot alot of deer and not one has been a wall hanger yet, and i'm still proud of everyone because i hunt hard and legal.

    Hi fellow hunters,

    I'm new to this forum and just wanted to say hi. I live in northern NY where I hunt mostly whitetails and coyotes. I'm fairly new to deer hunting, last ten yrs or so, I used to hate deer hunting; I hunted only small game since i was a young kid- rabbits, birds and waterfowl. After I bagged my first deer it was all over now I live to hunt whitetails! I hunt with muzzle loader, rifle and started bow hunting this. I join this forum to meet fellow hunters and to network. I hunt the northern zone and looking for land in the southern zone for future hunts. Looking forward to exchanging ideas and tales with all of you. :rabbi:
