i like venison, if it's brown, well you know....

the original poster makes some good points...however there is more state land available to hunt in NY than ever before. i own land and enjoy hunting it, but i still head over to state land every year because where else can you hunt tens or even hundreds of thousands of acres of land. i do have to say the original poster peeled the right banana when he stated how selfish hunters have become, you can get a belly full of that just visiting this forum

DEC Report on Hogs and Cormorants
sits in trees replied to bpb's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
i do admit i'm not an expert on the pig thing but other than a couple of states down south, Georgia for one i really don't hear nothing anywhere else, yea we have the horror stories about how fast they breed and what they will do to our deer population but where are the real stats on this, and i'm not just talking about all the scary story stuff we hear for whatever reason from whatever person???? heck we are mankind the most advanced species on this little planet, we can and have controlled the rat population in New York City!!!! are you all telling me we can't control and maintain a reasonable hog population in our state?? i can tell you on thing, i will do my part in hog population control if needed. i probably shouldnt admit this but when the first one shows up on one of my trail cams i'll feel like a kid on Christmas. i think this pig thing could lead to longer seasons and more hunting.. -
Diamond black Ice, it smokes!!!

ahh, NY and it's little bucks ;D

I guess I didn't catch why this guy can't hunt during gun season. Is there some problem with that. For people with arm, hand, shoulder and back problems, the gun is actually the more suitable weapon. When I can no longer pull my bow, that is exactly what I intend to do. That is if the rest of my body is up to even that. You know, hunting is a physical activity and whether we want to admit it or not, there does come a time when we will no longer be able to do what we use to. If I can't bowhunt, the next logical step is to gun hunt. If the time comes that I can not pick up and shoot a gun, then I guess the crossbow probably won't help either. What I probably won't do is to throw a tantrum and try to take it out on everyone around me because I'm not being accomodated. there goes Doc, riding off into the sunset again ;D

i will add this, i do love the equipment!!!

used to be just to get a deer, any deer, now it's just being in the woods that i love...

lets get real here, your not going to get the state troopers to arrest someone who happens to come on your land, the most they will do is warn the guy. and second if you pull a handgun on someone who is on your land you will be the one hiring a lawyer and more than likely doing it from behind bars. another thing, be civil remember most tresspassers know where you live, and you know nothing about them, so before you go threatening someone and cutting up thier equipment etc think about what they can do to you or your house.

I guess you don't want to share all those "150" class bucks you see. dude we get your point....your a mighty land baron.

or this, works every time.

here you go try this....

for crying out loud man, just leave a note asking him to remove it, very simple!

looked like a kill shot to me, did you see that blood splattered on that wall!!!! gotta be a good blood trail. but honstly these guys were not even hunters, just a couple of nuts giving us hunters a bad name. why isnt the sport of baseball bashed when a guy beats someones head in with a baseball bat???????? and hey they never mentioned if the deer was found or not. i'm sure in that part of the state they would nurse it back to health or have a really nice funeral for it :'( and perhaps a monument in town.

Great news for the NYbowhunters inc and Anti hunting groups, ohhh did i just place those organizations in the same group did you hear the way that news guy was saying the word Crrooossssbow!!which was camouflaged and extreeemmmly powerfull. i'm pretty sure that was one of them crossbows that al qaida uses in terrorist attacks!!

about 3 yrs ago a fellow i work with slammed a doe and it lay there kicking, about a minute later a town cop pulls up gets out and shoots the deer in the head to put it out of it's misery. anyway this guy calls me and asked if i would butcher it for him, in this particular case the shoulders were smashed up alittle beyond saving but the hindquarters and loins were fine...oh it also had 2 fetuses in it about 10 inchs long each, and no we didnt eat them!!
-
hey thanks guy's for clearing that up for me...

i dont think the across state lines thing is really going to help, health insurances costs are pretty much the same no matter where in the country you are, our company was looking to Fla for a possible move a couple years back and there were zerO savings on health ins costs down there in Fla. these are nationwide companies and the rates are figured on a nationwide basis. we stayed in NY because we actually had more in the way of options as far as employee health care is concerend. not cost savings just more options as far as insurers.

thanks Ed, so with the purchase of 2 of them you can shoot 2 bucks or 2 does or one of each right?
-
if you purchase a bow/muzzle stamp at the beginning of the season and use it for bow season and have no success can this same stamp be used during muzzle season?

Help make NY a higher quality deer state

i think that was very true years ago, but there really hasn't been anything in the way of record books coming from that area in some time now. the biggest racks are taken on the eastern end of Long Island and the western tier, Steuben county and surrounding areas. you are right years back they did nail the occasional P&Y wall hanger up in the Dacks but not in quite some time now..i think that the forests have just become so mature in that region that whats needed to grow big bones is just no longer there. -

i have hunted the Adirondacks and northern Greene counties for years and i would surely shoot any deer i saw knowing that it might well be the only deer i saw for the season. every area of the state is differant, some areas will always have low numbers and forget about big bucks, thats just the way it is. but alot of areas have the potential for improvement. -

i've heard this old song and dance that you just have to find the big bucks, kinda like the c'mere deer commercials that somehow the biggins are there but no one can seem to find them, and by striving as you put it or by using c'mere deer or some special call or lure you will surely find the big ones. if there are no big bucks in an area there are no big bucks, plain n simple! i can put you in areas of this state where all your striving and high level of knowledge will get you nothing more than a 4 point my freind ;D and thats if your real lucky.
