great news, i was looking at the no lead ammo in Midways flyer, and man that crap goes as high as 80 dollars a box????

there are forms of hunting that i would never participate in but we should understand that alot of hunting methods are traditions that are older than most of us. you can go on and on about dogs, bait, drives, you know, but i try never to bash other hunters methods as long as they are within the law where they hunt.

not for me, i just don't need anything swinging on the end of my bow or another moving part that can fail at the moment of truth, years ago when bows were shooting only 220 fps and trajectory was a big issue and shooting down could really screw you up, yea. but with todays 300 plus fps bows no need for them. i have tested the shooting down thing myself and my arrows go right to the same spot from my tree stand just like they do when i'm shooting flat ground. i'm shooting 450 grn arrows at close to 300 fps.

i'm at 68 lbs on my bows.

i can tell you first hand what the DEC will do to control deer numbers once we hunters can no longer do it anymore. i lived on the east end of long island for years and the problems of too few hunters and too many deer is a problem many small townships had to address decades ago, yes on a smaller scale but nevertheless a pretty good idea of what you could expect to see up here. one very popular method is laying tons of corn in an area over a period of time and slowly move that corn pile over the span of a few weeks to a fenced or corral area with 10 foot wire fencing around it. this area is well lit at night to get the deer used to feeding under lights at night. then they bring in about 10 police snipers one night and shoot as many as 70 deer in as little as 20 minutes. this is repeated numerous times until the herd reaches an acceptable level. often farmers will allow this on their properties or it can also be carried out on state or town properties.i'm don't ant to paint too gloomy of a picture here but have personally know and hunted these areas and once this process by the state has taken place you can pretty much right off hunting in that area for a long, long time.

when i walk out of the house to head for work in the early a.m. i grab my bow and shoot "one" single arrow into my target every morning. thats in addition to regular 2 or 3 times a week practice of 25 or 30 arrows per session. but practicing a single shot in the a.m. on an unwarmed up body is nearest to the real thing..and cold muscles are what you want to learn how to control..

Deer population - Is it growing or is it over hunted?
sits in trees replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
same thing here in Ulster, a few days after opening day of rifle season you can spend days in the woods without seeing another hunter. during bow season you might see one or 2 other hunters the whole season, thats why i gotta laugh when the anti x-bow guys start singing the "crossbows are going to flood the woods with hunters song"? i hunt 3m and 3j which is supposed to have the highest hunter populations in the state. -
yea look up a guy named Scottie on Archery Talks classifieds, i just bought a diamond black ice for 350.00 to my door, brand new in the box. Gander has the same bow for 649.00

just scroll down to d-loop... http://www.bowtuningtips.com/peepsString.html#top i cut them to 4.50 in and fray the ends pretty good then heat(not burn) with a bic lighter till you get something that looks like a little mushroom head, with the finished lenght being 4.25. it sounds short and when tying it on you will be saying damn Sits this is to short, but trust me, once you got the loops in place take a long nose plier and put it in loop and spread with a fair amount of force and the loop will be perfect. i also serve in alittle nylon serving string (bout 1/16) on the insides, top and bottom just to keep the nock centered..

hey Paulie, finally got back from your year long trip to the Ukrain ;D yea as of 2011 they are legal during rifle season and late bow/muzzle loader season. and if the DEC decides they can add a crossbow season after all other seasons. this is just the beginning full inclusion is in the near future for NY hunters....

Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)
sits in trees replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
i always wear blaze during rifle or small game season, but one year i was bowhunting late bow/muzzle season up in my climber stand and was dressed in my usual camo when i saw a guy with a smoke pole walking about 150 yds away across a stream stop and start looking at me, for a second i didnt know what to do and thought if i move he might think i'm a bear and if i don't move he might think i'm a bear, so i just let out a pretty loud yell and he got the idea and walked off. so now during late bow in NY i will put on a blaze vest even though i hate hunting with any blaze on while bowhunting.. -
yes it is Bill...

in NY the adult ( for 14 yr olds during big game) has to be a licensed hunter and a parent or guardian of the child unless a mentor form is filled out and kept on the childs person and signed by a parent or guardian of the child...i think a licensed hunter only makes sense and would be a good thing and who knows might even force some parents into hunting by their very own kids....

i gotta add one thing on the string jump problem, if a deer is not looking at you when you shoot the sound of the bow is whats going to alert it, now some bows are tossing arrows at 300 fps and sound travels at roughly 1100 fps, you have a slight edge, do the math. "BUT" when a deer is staring right at you the first thing that alerts the deer is the visual snap of the bow limbs and the arrow flying towards it which is almost immediate. if a deer is looking right at me i do tend to aim a bit lower. but then sometimes you do everything right and you still end up with a total disaster, thats deer hunting ;D

i would generally shoot a doe and let a 4 point walk, but wouldnt hold against a hunter for bagging a 4 point if he so desired.

other states have done it with good success, of course adult supervision is a must with very specific guidelines on proximity distance of adult to 12 yr old in the field. one rule i think i would like to see is that a child can not handle a loaded firearm until seated/on post. the idea of little fidgiting fingers near a rifles safety while stomping thru the woods raises concern with me...

No, the real simple fact is that you have a personality problem. You simply don't know how to express yourself in a civil manner. I mean, that is without a single exception. There's no excuse for that reply that you posted and you know it. if expressing my views for the good of hunting in my state causes you to believe i have a personality problem then so be it. and if anyone disagrees with your views for the perfect bow season you resort to calling them a host of names also(too many to list). im' basically here to argue fact and have proven that with the majority of my posts in this thread, on the other hand you are the one calling me a troll and flamer amonst other things for simply stating facts that prove you wrong. i'll pass on your scolding and will continue to fight anything i see as being wrong as far as NY sportsman are concerned. -

the simple fact is me and many like me in NY wanna see crossbows put into archery season so that hunters can have another choice of vaible weapon to be used in the process of killing deer during bow season, and you anti crossbow guy's have this sunshine and lollypops view of whats going on here in NY with "your bow season" and "your deer". well guy's it's time to wake up join in or just stand aside. Crossbow will bring new interest to hunting and it will revive interest for those who have gotten too old to enjoy the sport anymore. we want the right to hunt on our own land with the weapon we so choose to use, crossbow or compound and won't stand there while other people try and deny us that right ESPECIALLY on our own land, do what you want to control state land and put your little laws into place there if you must, as a matter of fact join right up with anti hunters who have all kinds of plans for how and what state land is going to be used for in the near future..they have a big list of weapons they wanna ban and yea compound bows is at the top of their list!! -

your long yarn more than likely wont even be read by most of the posters on this thread because of the content of the very first sentance. if you expect hunters, whom a large majority of are pro crossbow to read your long dribbling posts then you might wanna use a form that people might even wanna read. i stopped reading your BS the second i got to crossguns phrase in your first sentance....man i can't wait till crossbows become legal (and they will)so i can PM each of you anti hunter wingnuts and stomp you with my keyboard and laugh in your pitiful faces!!! -

fat chance on the Gov not signing the bill, it's as good as done bub, and heck any archer worth his weight in cow dung should be able to shoot dead on with even his compound at 50 yds. a crossbow has no ballisitic advantage over a regular compound bow. sounds like you may be the crap shot being that you were so amazed you could actually hit something at 50 yds??? have you ever even killed anything with your bow?? -
yea when i see the amount of time i spend on my bows before and during each season i just know theres no way any pro shop can be doing that and still turning a profit..they will set up the basics for you but to really maintain a bow over an entire season i do beleive you gotta become your own bowtech...
