  1. hard to find a positive out of this - but if they leave any tree tops that have still have leaves on them the deer will browse/eat those leaves once the loggers are gone one of the places i hunt was loged 5 years ago, and some of the patterns changed forever some went back to previous patterns after a year
  2. Factors that Determine Antler Color and Symmetry Genetics - antler symmetry is determined almost entirely by genetic makeup. Oxidized blood/local plants - antler color depends partly on the amount of oxidized blood left over from velvet shedding and partly on a chemical reaction between the blood and sap from plants on which the antlers are rubbed. found this on the web...
  3. with the Bow for sure -(no fawns) - anything with a bow is a victory as far as I'm concerned - with the gun it varies, but i have done it in the past and will in the future. The meat is usually better
  4. i agree - this morning i was getting ready for work - saw two does out the back of my house through the window - something didn't look right - they were "on alert" - next thing I know this big buck came running after them - they took off with him right behind...he was ready and they were not
  5. I practice to 40, but have never shot anything greater than 30 yards - i would shoot 40 given the right cirumstances/opportunity
  6. good video - good to see someone shoot something like I shoot ! - not monsters from texas
  7. culver - thanks that FUBO site is great - i'll be buying some of that stuff !

    Logging

one of the places I hunt was logged right before the season - 2 things happened - 1) there patterns changed a little bit - they walked right down the logging trails 2) they were feeding on the "tops" that were left behind by the loggers
  9. i'm not ashamed to wear my camo in public, i'm just a fanatic about putting it back in a bag to keep it as scent free as possible...besides my NRA hat, I have a NRA trailer hitch cover, NRA window sticker and one of those deer head stickers on my pick-up truck - people can tell I hunt... btw - since were supposed to be talking shoping - i went to dicks at lunch time - they have Tinks $3.00 off per bottle this week
  10. the only thing i wear out in public is my NRA hat - boy do I get some nasty looks from women
  11. i submitted a FOIL request myself - it was returned stating the NYS Police don't track the FOIL requests - what a load of cr*p....i'll be calling my legislator to support this bill

    wild pigs

I've read in the paper that they have seen them in the Cortland portion of 7M
  13. there are work arounds - like marking trees - but i hunt several properties with several diff stands - so it's become very essential to me - it makes me feel much more comfortable when I can measure the landmarks and store it in my head - the older I get the more i forget
  14. i agree with you - i don't change stands once i'm in it. I've had similar experiences - where deer have walked up behind me with the wind at their backs - them darn deer don't always follow the rules...
  15. haven't had to adjust sight in years - but i still go to the range and shoot a couple of boxes of shells just to make sure
  16. this is great news for NY - but like the article stated - be careful with the car - when i went to newfoundland i saw pictures of what moose/car accidents look like - the moose wins
  17. culvercreek - perfect answer- wow twice agreed with u today - I work so I can hunt, I don't hunt so i can work - My time in the woods is limited
  18. i agree with culvercreek - don't judge a book by the cover - i too have done drives sine i was a youngster - i don't do them on opening day, don't disturb neigbors and don't shhot like crazy....Thye have been very effective over the years - these days with less hunting partners we do small drives with 3 or 4 people and they are more like "pushes"...
  19. what a great country we live in that we can debate this - My father who hunted in the 1940's-1960's would laugh at this entire debate - he was lucky to even see a deer during those years....my two cents is "dont tread on me" with more regulations...
  20. i agree with the open season - i spent some money and bought snow camo and plan to hunt the yotes after deer season - probably need to buy a call - does anyone have recommendations on the electronic calls ?
  21. moose is delicious to eat too - I've taken 2 moose from trips to Canada - i like the meat better than venison
  22. i'll never buy one - I already enough weapons with triggers Like a compound bow shot with a release? i don't use a release
  23. i'll never buy one - I already enough weapons with triggers
  24. last week i was walking my property to check conditions of posted signs and check if stands needed any work - I see a trail camera right on the property line in front of my posted sign pointed into my property ! I gave the camera a few pictures of me with one of my fingers pointing upward - btw - this is the same spot that I have caught the neighbor crossing into my property 3 times in the last 2 years
