Beautiful still morning today, but once again, no gobbling...I pulled the blinds..The season's a wrap for me... Time to get serious about fishing..

I can't believe you haven't sold it yet at that price....Motors of that size sell like hotcakes as kicker motors for boat with motors too big to troll efficiently with... -
Don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya.....

How can one survive without fishing ?? SOMEONE, please take this fine person out FISHING !!...

I'll be on the property before daylight tomorrow....If I hear any gobbling, I'll take my buddy Mort up there the next morning... If I DON'T hear anything, I'm going to pull my blinds and call it a season... Time to concentrate on fishing , PLUS trying to keep The Mermaid happy, which is practically a full time job in itself...<<sigh>>….

Bassets are loveable but dumb....As dogs are rated for intelligence, I think bassets about 104 out of 105... Hunting bassets do a good job on rabbits...However for a house pet I think you'd be better off and picking a mixed breed mutt... Probably be much smarter and have less congenital health problems...

Do you have a lot of rocks where you hunt ?? Those spurs look rounded off, like many Catskill birds, from all the rocks... I am guessing that he is a 3 year old, and if taken in less rocky terrain, he'd have sharp spurs perhaps an 1/8 " longer... Nice bird in any case...

Still, just because Momma brought it home, doesn't mean that she killed it....

Hehehehe..Good story...If I ever get into any pike again, I'll be sure to keep a package of Oreos handy....

An adult fox could certainly kill a tiny, newborn fawn, but he fawn remains could very well be from a roadkill or other source... For sure , red foxes are not a significant predator of whitetail fawns...Coyotes and black bears ?? That's a different subject....

I hear you, Wolc….IMHO, pike is one of the best tasting game fish....Back when I was catching lots of them, I got pretty good at trimming out the Y bones....I would freeze the bone free stuff for frying, and can the bony parts for use in chowder or pike patties...The canning process would soften the bones.. However, whenever I served fried pike, I would warn my guests to be aware that there may be a bone or two.. I can do a bass a walleye, a trout or salmon and damn near ay kind of panfish and GUARANTEE that there are no bones... Never felt QUITE that confident with pike...

The key words here are "used to".....

Pretty fish...….There used to be a phenomenal pike fishery on Seneca Lake.....There was a time not too many years ago when a couple of guys might catch 15-30 pike in a morning, and 10+ pounders were not rare... That fishery has since declined, along with the perch, bass and trout, for reasons that I am not sure anyone understands...

A big congrats, My Friend....I'll give you a celebratory kiss when we meet as long as you promise not to slip me the tongue.... DEFINITELY a humane kill...Hehehe.....

I listened on the property again this morning and again I heard nothing...last gobble I heard up there was on May 4th, just before I filled my second tag...

Mink....Weasels are smaller, a lighter color of brown ( almost carmel colored )and have a white belly...

Sounds like a wonderful trip, Dave...Good luck to you and your missus..... Just don't wait TOO long to do the Alaska thing..It is definitely a young man's hunt..You are required by law to bring out ALL the meat, and the only way to get it from the kill site to a place where a boat or an airplane can pick it up is on your back. I went five times, all DIY when I was in my late 30s and 40s..I was in the best physical condition of my life and they still damn near killed me....!!...

He's probably wearing a Kevlar vest by now....Hehehe..

I served during Vietnam although I was never in a combat zone.... I lost several of my classmates in that war, including one of my very best friends...I was a pallbearer at his funeral just one month before I reported for active duty in the Navy....He was five months shy of his 21st birthday when he was KIA by small arms fire while walking point for a patrol in March of 1971.... I had just turned 21 and it was the first time I had cried since I was 12....

Ronald Reagan was the last presidential candidate that I REALLY wanted to vote for..Since then it has always been a case of voting for the lesser of two evils....
