Going to use something a little different this season
Pygmy replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
They're both pretty ugly.....Kinda like trying to decide between Rosie O'Donnell and Ruth Bader-Ginsberg... -
Lots of good memories of deer drives over the years...The first buck I killed ( 1966) and the second (1968) were shot on drives....

My Canadian guests will be in my tower opening weekend, which offers the possibility of a 300 yard shot, so I will be in the woods with my Rem 700 Mountain Rifle in 7mm08 with a Burris 2 x7... When I hunt the tower solo, I'll probably be using my M70 Win Lightweight in .280 Rem with a 6X Leupold…. I shoot handloads of Barnes TTSX in both rifles, 120 grain in the 7mm08 and 140 grain in the .280....

I always like to a person benefit of the doubt...No foul to have a stand facing onto your land....If you have evidence he is shooting deer ON your land, then you have cause for a discussion..

The picture is not real clear, but it sure looks like a possum to me.... -
Hide behind a tree and make a noise like a PIC-a- nic basket....

A good brush gun is light, fairly short and fits you well enough to make fast, accurate off hand shots through fairly small openings in the brush at ranges of less than 100 yards with a bullet capable of reaching the vitals of a deer from less than ideal angles... Chambering is irrelevant as long as it fits the aforementioned criteria... NO cartridge shoots accurately if you hit brush or saplings...Even 12 gauge slugs deflect if they hit anything more substantial than a small twig...You have to shoot through openings in the brush, unless the target is VERY close to the cause of deflection...

The pictures are coming, but in my low tech world, sometimes things take a little longer..The pictures are on The Mermaid's smartphone..Since neither SHE nor I are SMART enough to run a smartphone, she does not know how to send them to my email.. Next Tuesday morning, she will be having coffee with one of her girlfriends, who will know how to do it....Once she sends them to me, I'll have to send them to Lawdwaz to post here, since I am not SMART enough to do that...I'm guessing it will be about a week before the pictures show up, and by that time we will all be so excited about the deer gun season opener that probably nobody will give a hoot...Hehehe... I hope I'm not confusing you....<<grin>>….. Heck, before then I may catch another cat...

Fantastic buck....However I'd rather shoot a spike on my 107 acres here in Dogpatch than shoot a Booner in somebody's backyard in the suburbs...Nothing against it, just not my cup of tea...
-
He'd have been a DANDY next year.....Hehehe....
-
Sorry to hear you are handicapped, but your rifle sure shoots good !!!!
-
Yes I did....A merganser wing hung about 5 feet off the ground 21 feet from the set....

CHEF !! I am surprised at your disrespect for women... The proper term is DOUGH- Hoes.... -
Thanks, Zeb... However, there are 4 things I don't eat.....Felines, canines, testiscles and brains....
-
ABSOLUTELY !! It should fit you well in the crotch area since it is a female...Hehehe....

The cat weighed 19 .5 pounds,,,My estimate was pretty close, but it was judged on hauling out many turkey gobblers from 18-20 pounds over the last 45 years... I had it sealed at the DEC in Bath, and the tech said it was an adult female..... It may take a day or two for he picts...Gonna skin her in the morning...
-
All the reading, videos, etc. that I perused concerning bobcat trapping finally paid off...I caught my first cat this morning... It is a female, and I think it's a pretty good sized one for a female...I'm guessing around 20 pounds..I'm headed up to my buddy's place to weigh it.. Pictures will be forthcoming...I tried to get a good picture of it still alive in the trap, but the cat crawled up under a log and just laid there snarling at me, and I was NOT about to grab the trap chain and pull it into the open...I did get some hero pictures after the cat expired, and I'll email them to of my good buddies here to post... Now I need to find out where to go to get it sealed...

I was not saying that the 6.5 CR is any BETTER than the .308 Win within 300 yards for deer hunting...It's only advantage is it's lighter recoil, which as I said is probably not significant in hunting situations... What I will say is, that the .308 is no BETTER than the 6.5 CR for ANY game within 300 yards, and the 6.5 has the advantage at longer ranges, which is not an issue in most hunting situations in NY....
-
The 6.5 CR is ballistically equivalent to the 65. x55 Swede, which is used in Scandinavia to kill 1000s of moose every year... The long bullets have a high SD and penetrate like crazy...A 6.5 CR with 140 grain or 160 grain bullets is very much as capable to take medium and big game ( including deer, elk, moose and black bear) as ANY .308 Win load... All that said, within 100 yards, flip a coin..Both chamberings are very accurate and there are lots of factory loads available...The Creedmore kicks a little less, but you'll probably never notice the difference under hunting situations.. It is at very long range ( over 300 yards) that the 6.5 creedmore begins to have a distinct advantage over the .308, due to the high ballistic co-efficient of the bullets..

Moog's maximum range with his recurve is 149 yards.....Good call, Big fella …... -
Thanks, Mojo....I have reputation to maintain, UNSAVORY as it may be.....

I tried a little self filming with one of my old girlfriends... I was going to name it " Debby Does Doggie Style".... It didn't work out...Every time I tried to put the leash on her, she ran under the porch...

Okay, why don't you and I go on one....You pay, of course... While you are out in the frozen wastes in 40 below temps riding on a snowmobile with some grizzled old Inuit dude and sleeping in an igloo I'll stay back in the village snuggled up in a caribou robe next to the fire with his three 20-some year old daughters drinking Moosehead beer and nibbling on caribou crunchies and moose munchies... You can even have my share of the muskox meat, as long as you pay to have it shipped home, of course...
