20,30,40,50,60 , wont shoot over 30 or 40 at a deer the 50-60 pins are for practice and 3d shoots ,shooting at long range helps accuracy at short range,

Looking for a sweet and spicy jerky recipe
asav2013 replied to TeeBugg's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
New York state fair speedy sauce, or I make my own, Worchester sauce, touch of soy sauce, black pepper , red pepper, onion and garlics, I,found I just go to the spices isle in the store , grab any thing you think looks good or you know is good and throw it in,with,Worchester sauce, its alot of trial and error until you figure out what, you like best, -
What IV heard if there is a line of rubs that's his travel route from bed to food, if the rubs go in a circle around a certain area the middle of that circle is his house where he lives most of the time
-
IV always heard Allegany county but I think theres alot of big bucks takin every year in most countys ya just never hear of them, the big freak bucks 155" plus ya hear of but I think in new York a 130-140 buck is a monster, and I know of quite a few in Oneida county where I live being taken, friend of mine shot a 155" 15 pointer last year , it all depends which county gets more hype , like Illinois EVERY one has heard of pike county but I bet big bucks bucks are killed in the surrounding countys just no one ever hears of them,
-
Since there is so many apples around this year I like to take an apple or 2 crush it and just wipe it all over your cloths ,boots , back pack whatever , I think it helps, but In my opinion if a deer is down wind no matter what you do to prevent scent , they prolly know your there, but in the rut most times a bucks nose has been working alot and been in the dirt and in doe piss they don't pay attention to the wind as much,
-
it is a tough angle to judge, but his nose bump is starting to protrude preety good he may be a 3.5 year old, depends on width he may go 95", hes got good length on his tines, decent brows, if he lives another year and packs on the mass he will be a stud for sure,

iv found spots with massive rubs and scrapes last year, these spots don't seem to have much daytime activity, there are limited apples around the swamp, not much for mast, soy beans, corn and hay fields, I didn't have much time to scout out a portion of this swamp that seems to be he "core" of the area where most of the tracks and deer iv jumped have headed, its super nasty and difficult to access but it may be my plan here soon to get in and get a stand set trim a trail in and let it settle for a week or 2 and hope to surprise them, I guess its the game we all play chasing a giant, but the swamps id say are the most difficult by far, but its a morale killer not even seeing does and young bucks but iv heard on swamps big bucks wont tolerate young bucks in there area most likely because they could get them killed lol, but d say these few big ones I have tabs on know the game and I cant even explain the set up , they got it locked down hard from most tactics, one side is easier access but winds blowing right in, ones hard access with good wind but making noise on the way in is near impossible,

IV have a 200 acre swamp I hunt and I thought I had every thing good to go for this season stands set bucks on camera, thought I had the wind figured out,, season hit and every things gone sour on me, winds are never right when they are they always change on me while I'm in the stand, I was seeing ALOT of tracks now bang none what so ever, I haven't seen a deer from a stand in 7 straight days now, I know its early and I'm beating my self up over it I just hope the rut at least pulls these big bucks a little bit away from the super thick stuff that's inpenetratable, didnt know if there was any one on here hunting swamps who could offer up some tips , this only my 2nd year hunting this swamp I'm doing something wrong I just, cant figure it out, thanks guys

IV shot coyotes that were cornered before , if they were gonna attack you ,,they would have and we wouldn't of been having this conversation, first coyote I ever killed was 6" from the end of my barrel in a culvert, even been, surrounded out coon hunting , only time id be worried is if I stepped in a den, full of pups and mamma was around then it could get Hairy real quick,

Just got into one of my stand off the swamp edge in the swamp grass and cattails, spotted a 130 class 9 point in July near this stand , hopin I have him patterned enough he shows up tonight ,
-
saw a small 6 point this morning, this evening jumped 2 does and a hen, got to the stand they were chopin corn 30 yards from my stand, 5 mins in a fisher runs under my stand, 10 mins later a giant doe with twin button bucks comes into 18 yards, watched them move off into the thicket towards soy beans, got out of stand and saw 2 small bucks take off across the cut corn field preety good day id say, still watin on one of the 2 shooters iv seen around, or maybe there grandfathers lol, back at it in the am.

cool greece buck, shooter? can anyone age him?
asav2013 replied to doecomander's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I'd age him at....hmmm.... Soon to be dead , hard to age from a head on view, id guess 3-4 years old right around 110", has short tines, which kills his score, -
Listening to cars go by, and squirrels screwin around on the ground, ya hear the sheesh sheesh sheesh of the leaves gets the heart goin bows in hand think a deers comin .... Out pops a squirrel, and when they chatter and chase each other , irritating to say the least

Being sweaty you,can control , walk in slow, dont over do it, I think this early season gives the guys who really do there homework an advantage, big bucks are very patternable right now, but when the opener was the 15th it gave us 14 days to run our coyote hounds and get them in shape take a few pounds off, we respect other hunters and we are all deer hunters.so we do not rub our dogs during an open deer season, so it limits us from Christmas to march, depends on how the Dec seems to think this early opener works out, it may or may not stay last I knew this was only suppose to be a 5 year thing,
-
Dont worry about it, shot a 110" ish 8 pointer last year big mature buck ended up loosing him was a big bummer but he came under my stand at 5 yards , Skoal mint dont bother em from what IV seen

To bad your so far away, I'm almost 19 big into hunting, have leases and thousand or so acres to hunt , big into guiding. People for turkeys, I don't really have any one my age that's into the hunting as hard as I am, older friends tho, IV been hunting and doing it all my self since before I had a driving license, just fibbed a bit to mom said I was hunting with so and so blah blah, haha I'm pretty much a loner when it comes to deer , besides the occasional family.hunts, I do it all alone from permission ,to scouting to preparation, kill, drag, butcher, the whole 9 all alone I know where your coming from, but sometimes it makes thing easier, ever need advise IV prolly been, there done that , done alot of things most people haven't and I'm only 18 lol, like.i,said ever need any one to talk to , good luck this season bud
-
IV never worried about sharing pictures , they wanna steal the property out from under me go ahead and try, most my land is locked down ill never loose permission, it thins out the worst of your "friends",

I kinda stand on the fence, see the pros and cons pros= better antler in the geene pool, giving bucks the chance to reach a certain potential , more bucks running around , cons,= kids first buck not having to wait, people who really depend on the meat and AR could decrease there opportunity to fill the freezer, it all really comes down to why your really hunting , for the tradtion of it and hunting for the sole purpose to have the venison, or just for bragging rights of a giant xxx" p&y or booner, I see more and more people fighting and ruining relationships over antlers its truely sad, it should not be what the sport is about, in my opinion, yea I hold out for a big buck but come crunch time seasons coming to an end, I'm and most definitely not eating tag soup, I pay thousands of dollars for equipment , 100$ for a licence, all seems like a waste to me I spend the money only to have the excuse of why I was not successful because I didnt get. A shot at a big mature buck, Just my 2 cents, but each to their own

Sad to hear , IV actually heard friends and family say "ahh I dont need one of those things or ill just use some.rope" I go out of my.way and buy them a harness , just the right thing to do,

I didn't mean afraid as in bravery , as afraid your gonna.miss or.make a bad shot, if you dont have the confidence or skill to make the shot that's fine, but don't judge some one who can and does,
