Going out in a little bit, been seeing turkey using this one area before they fly up. Going to go set up with the bow on the ground and see what happens.
-
Same here Elmo.
-
It doesn't happen nearly as much as I wish it did.....I mean ummm no, ummmm never seen any of that lol
-
Anyway, anyone taking a kid out this weekend good luck and stay safe. It is nice of you guys to take kids out even if don't agree when it happens.
-
If i don't see anyone. How about taking away my ability to use a decoy this weekend? It's the same thing for turkey season, If you want to take a kid out to hunt do it on your time not time already set aside for other hunters.
-
Been hunting for 8 years never have run into a small game hunter during an open deer season. On state land or private, so that question doesn't really matter to me.
-
Thank you, sorry I ask so many questions lol. Hopefully I can put all the info to use and it will help me score my first buck.
-
I for one care. I don't know about you but I have a limited amount of time I can spend in the woods so one weekend is a lot. If you want to take a kid gun hunting do it during gun season, not at the expesnse of bow hunters. Why not make opening weekend of gun season youth only? Yea I didn't think so.

When you say transitions you mean changes in cover right? Like where thick undergrowth meets open woods or pines meet hard woods? I hear "transistions" used a lot and I'm not sure what it means exactly.
-
What type of cover do you find most of the buck beds/areas you hunt Phade?
-
Thanks for the read. Will try to use some of this soon. I've always believe it's better not to bump deer off their beds, just what I have been told by those I hunt with. What type of sign would you be looking for now to find a buck?
-
Not sure I understand why youths need an early weekend. Not sure why they can't go out during regular season and learn like the rest of us. Any way thanks for the heads up on the Blaze.
-
Not sure I can get away with that. The way my schedule is will allow me to get out for Monday afternoon, Wed morning till 10, Thursday Morning until noon and all day Sunday. So I will be able to hunt half days the week I don't take off.
-
Looking forward to getting back in a tree. Not sure which week I should take off, the first or second full week of Nov. Good luck everyone!
-
Yea the baiting and the tresspassing was just to much. At least they gave us the beaver permits, I'll tell you that there isn't anything more fun than beaver hunting.
-
lol nothing like putting bait in front of a stand with your name on it. DEC is not going to do anything even if you give them GPS coordinates to the bait pile. I've had to deal with DEC on this issue before and was basically told to kick rocks. I never noticed up until this year the amount of "bait" stores like wal-mart, dick's and gander mountain sell in retail stores in a state that doesn't allow bait.

If you are interested I need a new seat for my summit. Let me know if you are willing to part ways with it. Glad you are ok and glad they are taking care of you.

We put the stand up this year. The strap didn't break, the hook was placed on the wrong side and the rubber hook slid up being wet and the stand went sideways. It should be fixed and ready to go by the weekend.
-
I'm sure they are sharing trails, it's hard to find a deer track mixed in with the cow tracks though. Will a deer bed in an area that the cows have access too or use regularly?
-
We are hunting a cattle farm and I'm having a hard time distinguishing deer trails and cattle trails in some areas. I know that sounds stupid but does anyone have experience hunting deer around cattle? What do you guys look for? Not that we aren't seeing deer.
-
Yea it is a hang on, It was double ratched. It is still hanging sideways in the tree. I think the top hook slide off where it was suppose to be because it was on backwards and it was wet.

HSS life line, HSS harness and it's a field and steam stand we have used for at least the last three seasons. Pretty sure the strap slipped from being put on the wrong side of the posts. That would make it a human error and not a stand issue. Either way I'm just glad I got to see my fiance and daughter last night.

Yesterday afternoon around 4pm I decided to get into my stand after it had finally cleared up. On my way to my stand I have a doe and her twin fawns cross my path at 60 yards, now I'm pumped the deer should be moving after a crapy day. Anyway I get to my stand a few minutes later and climb up the 12 feet to my stand. Something isn't quite right as I'm standing in the stand. I decide to climb out to check it out as I swing my leg out of the stand I hear a snap/pop and I knew it wasn't good. At this point if I hadn't been hooked up to life line I would have been laying on the ground and my hunting season would have been over or possibly worse. Instead I was able to get back on the climbing sticks and make it home safely with just a very sore back and shoulder. I feel very lucky today, it was my third time hunting out of this stand and I'm not sure what happened. My dad and I will be going out to inspect this stand sometime in the next few days. These life lines are the real deal, I owe my dad a lot for insisting that we use them over just the conventional saftey ropes.

Just had a fork horn at 73 yards. It just stopped raining and it's cooled off a bit
