  1. I never thought of going duck hunting until a friend took me out for the first time in California in 2008.  Now I'm addicted.  I love it just as much as deer hunting which I never thought was possible.  I never hunted duck on the east coast, but I don't think it would be any different than the west coast.  In the early season it is much easier to decoy ducks.  Later in the season they get smart and seems like they won't come into a 2 dozen decoy spread cause it looks too unnatural.  If you haven't learned how to call it is better you not call them.  Practice calling at home. I suggest you pattern your gun for the shot you are using.  #4 are great just for ducks, if there is a possibility of shooting geese #2 are better.  Find where the ducks are. Wait for shots that are 30 yards or less.  The worse the weather the better the duck hunting  Good Luck!!

  2. I have this little guy around. I hope he doesn't get shot. I see piebald deer on my property every couple of years and it has always been a button buck or a yearling buck. I have never noticed a defect on them physically to make me want to shoot them. The color is the only thing different.

  3. I see what you are saying. I wish these AR areas were like it is in other parts of N.Y where you could see all different age bucks. These restrictions wouldnt be needed and everyone could basically hunt the way they wanted. These areas before ARs were hurting for a buck over 1.5 years old. Sounds crazy but its true.

I dont see any negatives since the program started except for the initial first year on opportunity on shooting a buck because they were that rare. After that I actually experienced alot more buck sightings in the woods while hunting.

  4. Before ARs people were encouraged to shoot a "straggley" 3 inch spike. All its doing is giving some of these deer a chance to live past the first year. The hunters that dont hunt these areas don't know what it really was like. Before all this the straggley spike or 5 point was all you were going to see in the woods. Thats why some hunters that are getting it for the first time are worried. The chances of shooting any legal buck drop for the first year but gets alot better after. My chances of shooting a 2.5 or a 3.5 year old deer have risen 1000 percent compared to 6 years ago. There is no comparison.

  5. I hunt 3h which has been an AR area for six years. In the past six years I can say that I have not had a problem shooting a deer. If anything I have had the opportunity to harvest bigger bucks than in the past. By choice I let all of the yearling bucks walk which some have been legal to shoot. I actually have more of a choice to make now and that is what buck to shoot when before we were lucky to see a spike or a four pointer.

The first year was the hardest because of how limited it is to get a dmp in this area but did get a doe during bow. It has completely changed hunting for the better IMO.
