  1. Nice report and well done on the birds.
  2. Have fun, life is good;<)
  3. I'll keep am eye out for it now; looks interesting.
  4. At times I regret not having a TV to watch a show that interests me..... I was just in Southern Kruger/Sabi Sands in South Africa last week and had been in the same area 12 years ago. The over population of Elephant has decimated the place in terms of trees as they have girdled almost everything you see. That change in ecosystem has cascading effects across the area now turning it into bushveld. The greenies there are up in arms about a plan to cull 20,000 by parks and making it difficult to make hard decisions based on carrying capacity. On a better note they just zapped a few Elephant poachers up on the trails from Botswana-Caprivi Strip-Angola, and a another Rhino poaching ring leader in the Kunene region of Namibia were I hunted in 2014.
  5. Nothing today....I'm home too, but I get to pack for a trip so vacation has started! In the past.... Had one helper sharpen 10 common nails with a file (he would have done the whole 25lb box but the boss/owner showed up, dumb as a box of rocks, a week later he nailed 3 fingers together with a gun) Had another sharpen drywall screws with a 2" long stone (he got thru about 2 lbs) Had a guy carry a 10' Tapco 3 sheetmetal break up 3 sets of stairs when i told him go to the trailer and get me a "board stretcher". It was his choice that the break must be it. Got to weigh north of a hundred lbs I'd guess. Gave one kid a 12 ounce hammer to drive hanger nails. Hey they are short nails so you need a small hammer, got through the better part of 2 5lb boxes before it broke (into doug fir too) Makes me want to sneek over to the job site and mess around with someone. HA! I won't see that dump hole for a month.......
  6. I like hunting them, and I like looking at them up on the wall..... Can't say I like cleaning them, and they are dust magnets.
  7. CZ has both the 452 and newer 455 in there also, I thought someone else did too IIRC.
  8. Several stock rifles can be purchased with that Evolution stock.... Looks like a Savage in the pic.
  9. Some airline rules state something like.... Suitable containers like factory boxes, fiberboard, wood,......... blah blah blah. Airline counter employees don't always know what any of that means and default to must require factory boxes..... I have used factory and the plastic 20 round MTM slip cases without issue.....although I have some nifty labels for the MTM's that look factory to stick on them. All inside a nice aluminum case built to hold ammo for flying from my buddy Tom at Strong Case. Things have been pretty much smooth sailing for me with Airlines, TSA,Customs, USF&W and every import Police agency used. Sometimes have to be patient, polite, and a little flexible. I tell the story of a guy in JFK when Port Authority wanted to check his guns (they do that extra step there). He was freaking out about his second amendment rights and how dare they. Screwing up what was probably a multi thousand dollar hunt. PA cops tried really hard to be nice, at first.... I think he's still there somewhere.
  10. Not that I have ever seen or heard of..... But some can get sticky on factory headstamps when importing, wildcat guys can have "issues". And most have regs in place for energy requirements especially for dangerous game; usually a hot 9.3x62 or 375 HH makes the cut.. But there can be some skirting of the rules around the edges (read: its easy to get folks there to look the other way for small "donations") Been with in 30 yds of Elephant cows with young; a 375HH feels like a toothpick in your hands. On the original topic I don't buy the fits "standard action" stuff about short stroking a rifle or that they are more accurate. I have several action types, both strait pull and conventional bolts; different safeties that operate a little different; I switch between them, and still have never flubbed a shot due to the type of rifle in my hand. Frankly when trophy fees or pressure is on the line, you have to get me from STOP shooting again, not get me to remember to cycle the action and hit em' again. The 375 HH custom I have is one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned, and that's a few. My only mistake was having it built too heavy at the time; although off hand and working the bolt smartly the weight helps out with reloading and staying on target. Runs like glass. One of the early knocks on the Ruger was availability of ammo especially for travelling hunters in Africa. Here in the States you can often check ammo inside gun case, internationally its most often in your checked bag. Connect through many African cities and some airlines require the ammo case be checked again as yet another bag if flying on. Its just one more possibility on losing the ammo case, and finding suitable ammo in the field difficult. Most outfitters have a few rounds of common calibers around to get one hunting. I hear that the Ruger ammo is around more frequent now. Facing that issue now ; taking a 300WBY , but throwing the 270win for my switch barrel rifle in, just in case I end up with rifle and no ammo case I'll be able to get hunting with local sourced ammo thats easy to find. But I have been incredibly lucky in never having a delay or lost item flying, so knock on wood. If headed to a 40 cal I think I'd pick a 416REM....but getting back to them Elephants a 458WIn would be a better choice when I get there again and if I'm jumping up to what is often called a stopping rifle. JMO.
  11. Nice choice;<) I think my next rifle will be a K-95 Blaser, maybe a 7x57R; although I have been looking at a Kimber Mountain Ascent for its ultra light weight. Blasers' break action guns are underrated; have shot a BBF 97 several times and its about the best practical combo out there. Have owned a R93 for a long time now and its my go to rifle.
  12. No reason to need a 375HH for Africa to have one..... I shoot chucks' with mine and occasionally carry it for deer. (I'll get flamed for saying I shoot red squirrels with it too, good trigger time, just sayin'). Shot a bunch of stuff in Africa too, but that's just a bonus.
  13. Architecture.....class of 88' Watch college games, and have done pretty well on tournament brackets over the years on making a few $$$.
  14. Watching the on-line stream. Damn that drive to the hoop didn't count going into the 1/2 time......

    I Need A PFD

    Thanks for dinner.
  16. Nice show, a little something for everyone. Ran into guys from 3 different forums unexpectedly. Said hello to a couple of folks with booths I have done business with before and met up with a new one. Had no idea Pygmy and maytom would know Tim Herald, bent his ear for a spell on selecting a couple of hunts I have in mind and I appreciated his advice. Looks like I'll be joining him on a hunt in later 2017 if we can work a few details out. Had me a Fish Fry with Lawdwaz and wife on Friday night, a roast beef on weck' for lunch and a Teds hotdog for dinner on Saturday.......missed out on getting wings this trip, maybe next time.
  17. Hey; just so everyone knows I was in town, but I'm NOT the "buddy" who helped out with this, lets make that clear. Feel kinda guilty Larry as I was busy with family and didn't get a chance to come over on Sat to take a peek....oooops.
  18. I'm in for $20..... Just need 9 more members to join in. Shoot me a PM for where to send funds.
  19. Be there Friday to meet up with outfitter who'll be in Buffalo for first time. He is very disappointed in the lack of snow as where he's from(South Africa/East Cape) they rarely see it and he and his wife were looking forward to it. Need to tidy up a few hunt details with him and paperwork. Never been to this show myself.....
  20. You can tap walnut , and also tap birch trees for syrup. Not sure what the sugar content is for yield.
  21. Agree. Just pointing out for that particular argument that the actual bullet always costs more isn't always true, and in that particular chambering in JM's post. Sort of a long the lines of you want to play you got to pay if you want to own a expensive to shoot chambering. One can research that before buying a rifle, and one should know what to expect. I have a BUNCH of chamberings that aren't cheap to buy for off the shelf; and I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. I don't know too many guys that "plink" with an expensive to feed round; and there aren't any 20 buck a box Weatherby rounds to be found anywhere, anytime, ever; and never have been. PS.....Federal's 300WBY ammo can be found for less than the factory Weatherby brand/Norma made stuff and is extremely accurate. Around 60/box if you shop careful. Just sayin'. Their "trophy copper" is a non lead TSX copy, although the trophy bonded is a "trophy bonded bearclaw" copy and they are VERY good on game. Favorite bullet next to Swift A-frames and have shot a pile of big game with both.
  22. That has more to do with the factory Weatherby brand ammo being loaded by Norma then actual cost per bullet. A quick check @ Midway has a Partition and TSX at a penny difference in price. (.78 vs .77 for a 30 cal 180 gr) Factory WBY rounds always carry a premium price, even if the actual bullet cost is the same for other chamberings in the same caliber. Currently have a 300WBY and have owned both 270 and 257 versions; so hand loading these rounds is a best option.
  23. How can one possibly mention Errol Flynn without listing Olivia de Havilland? Both an all time favorite pair (they did 8 films together). I got to meet her once too! She was visiting NYC when i was working there, very nice lady.
