I took a walk down to my pond and snapped a few pictures of where there coming on my property. The den is on the other side and it’s a little rough to get too.

    I’m thinking conibear here?

    And both drowning sets here?

I would say if they're using that crawl-out then yes either type of set would work but I would prefer foothold there. Look for recently peeled sticks, look for "feed piles" which are often near the house, many things. The farther you stay away from the house the bigger beavers you'll get And the less you'll spook them. I was taught it's not about where they are, but knowing where they'll go.

On Youtube I have gotten a lot of help from 330Maniac on 330 sets. There are a bunch of trapping channels I like at the bottom of https://www.TrappersReport.com .Tim Roper (MeatTrapper) also has an Excellent bunch of videos on beaver trapping (including the best butchering video I have ever seen, ever, anywhere, and it changed my life). Tim also has a podcast which is at Patreon and it is excellent in my opinion.

  2. Many things I could add here but on safety: 1.) Do not mess around with the 330. Getting trapping license will help everything 2.) Practice the rope method and toss your setters aside for a second, it would save your life if you needed it as you could get out of them one-handed or even no-handed if you had to. Thicker poly cord the best.

  3. If you'd like to get into trapping, just get an account on TrapperMan. They will help you with whatever you need. My name there is NYHuntFish, hit me up if you want.

UPDATE: I just saw this forum had a trapping section too. Whatever works. I did not know that. Interesting.

  4. Thank you all! You made difference between me keeping that meat and not. Thank you very much!

On why I only kept the backstraps:

1.) It was after midnight when I got done. I had been up since early AM and was tired.

2.) I had every intention of either gutting it or taking the front legs. Probably should have done the latter. But the guts were coming out its butt and it smelled like poop....so I just decided to take the backstraps.

3.) I was in a public-ish place. On private property but "town like" for sure. I didn't want people oogling at me.

I did drag the deer into a ditch by a culvert so the coyotes could eat in peace.

If I had this one to do all over: I would have kept the front legs too.

  5. Can anyone confirm this is ok? I hit a deer tonight with the car, went back later to get the back straps. They look fine.

But look at the head is it okay? Every deer I've ever gotten has either been a buck with horns, a doe, or a spike of some sort but I've never gotten a deer where the antlers are gone. This is okay? Those holes are normal? Thank you very much. For your help.

Some of the twitter comments were quite ridiculous.

That comment by the former Canadian PM's wife was a real gem; I'm glad to see that Canada's political elite are so "open-minded" about the diversity of outdoor recreation that exists in their country.

I know, that made me so mad.

I use to keep and eat all the deer livers, but now I only keep those from 6-month old deer.   The older ones are too tough.   That one looks ok in the OP photo.  How old was the deer ?

Not sure. 3x3 points (or 6 point as I used to say). Thanks!

Appears fine to me. The kidneys are what I find interesting. I have never done anything with them however always been interested. How donyou prepare them?

Thank you for a reasonable response.

I've hunted for over 30 years. About 5 years ago I decided I would try to "actually be good at it." Now I'm trying and trying to learn "self reliance."

To answer your question, I've never prepared kidneys. I'm thinking about this.

I've only really eaten small-game liver. this is new to me, but deer hunting is not. So I need to make sure this is good. Thanks

  9. I got a deer this morning but my father isn't around to tell me if the liver is definitely good. Can someone help me here?

I see it's not "perfectly dark red" in that it has some white areas. And, There are two "small Brown patches" on it. I kept the kidneys too but different topic. thanks!

  10. If you're missing a deer you shot in Big Flats, 3 miles from the airport, write me back. There's a buck laying by the road, alive, but won't move but I can't see a gun shot. So I'm guessing it's shot but I just can't see it.

Now also I don't how to handle this. Can someone tell me if I wait X-hours then take it? I'm not sure the right thing to do here. I figure let's see if they get it by noon tomorrow.

I'm going to get superstakes eventually but saw 500' of (It think) good grade 3/32 7x7 cable at minntrapprod.com was $35 so decided to get that and some "Wolf Fang" ends. I will plan to replace with superstake chains soon but this much cable for this cheap....seems like a no brainer to pick up anyway.

I found this too... Add more than $50 of stuff (traps seem expensive I've been using Fleming Trap site for traps (http://www.flemingtraps.com) but equip seems cheap).... and you get free stuff. AFTER you add to your cart (but Before you pay), click this link and choose free stuff .http://www.minntrapprod.com/Free-Item-with-an-Online-Order-Over-50/productinfo/FREE/

  13. Thanks. I've seen these, called "Wolf Fang" at MB Trapping supply. People say they're "disposable" but if you re-use them then I might go this route because they're cheaper than super stakes. Thanks.
