Looks like the NRA can lose.

And your membership dues helped pay for that excursion to Africa. Like I said, the NRA is no better than any other lobbyist in Washington. -

I give up. There is no way to have a discussion with someone who can say that 6 million people are smarter than 115 million people. Growalot posted solid figures and you still contest that that is not a lot of money. 5 guys made $3,685,417. Why do they need so much money. That is YOUR money they are getting that you are sending in to supposedly help with the fight for our rights. It looks like it just helps them take vacations and buy Ferrari's. I guess what I am saying is that you can have your clue and I will keep my money. -

It seems that you have proven the point that myself and Wildcats160 have been saying, the NRA is a small group of gun owners who blindly send money to anyone who can convince them it is a good cause. What this means is that 95% of gun owners do not buy in to the propaganda that is spewed by the NRA. They have no pull in Washington and they are just another lobbyist puppet of the federal government. You talk about the huge voting block of the NRA but they are only 5% of the gun owners in the US. That is not a huge block. The thing that prevents all gun rights from vanishing is the 2nd amendment, the 95% of gun owners who are not in the NRA and the 5% that are. It is a fight we all fight by owning guns and voting properly. I am not going to send my hard earned money to a group who is just gonna give it to a politician. I can do my own research and voter for what I feel is right. -

I have never seen anyone trying to take away hunting rifles and shotguns. They want to ban fully automatic weapons and 30 round clips for handguns and I see nothing wrong with that. No one needs those things anyway. -

I completely disagree. Without the second amendment we would not have guns. The NRA has nothing to do with my ability to own my guns. If I had a fully automatic assault rifle with a 30 round clip then you could say the NRA had something to do with my guns. I don't believe anyone should own a fully automatic rifle. There is no use or need for one. No one in the US is gonna change the SECOND AMENDMENT. No one will ever gain enough power to pass any legislation banning guns. You can all have your crazy conspiracy theories about it and the NRA will continue to profit from you. -
I have 2 weeks left on mine. I have only been looking for about a month now cause I was in school getting a degree. I have an ok position I interviewed for 3 times in the last two weeks but it has no benefits whatsoever. I also have a phone interview on Wed for a different company. What really sucks is that the jobs I am applying for and will probably get are retail management jobs and that is what I was trying to get away from. I went back to school for almost 2 years to get a degree in Computer Information Systems but no one is hiring with just a 2 year degree. I need a 4 year degree or some sort of certification to even get looked at. It really sucks. It also really sucks that you lost your unemployment because you actually went out and worked. There is something seriously wrong when NOT working pays more than working. You should not be penalized for actually working.

First things first, I would never enter a chance to win this fenced hunt. If it was just given away to someone who attended an event that would be different but I still would not go on it. I have plenty of (unfenced)areas to hunt and don't need to go somewhere with a fence. I would try to find someone who was disabled and could not go out and scout and do the things necessary to be successful and I would give it to them. I would however ask if I could video the hunt so I could have a memory of the happy disabled hunter.

Herb's is usually cheaper than the big stores but not enough to drive a long distance for. Which one are you talking about with the archery shop next door? There are 7 of them in NY. They originated in Rome but have stores as far as Watertown, Liverpool, and Herkimer.

I love Herb Philipsons. I live 5 minutes from the one in Oneida. They have great prices and a pretty good selection of hunting gear but they only sell guns, no bows. They have some bow hunting equipment though. They are an overall good outdoor store. I just bought a pair of snow/ski pants for my son for $25 and I got a pair of ripstop BDU's for only $15. Depending on how far you have to travel would depend on if it is worth the trip. I would not go more than 30-45 minutes unless you just like to drive or you do not have any other option. You will get more selection at a Dick's, Gander Mountain, or the Bass Pro Shop for hunting gear though.

Nice pic. I only count 5 deer for 5 guys. I don't use scentlok or lures or coverscents. Neither do any of the guys I hunt with and we all seem to do just fine. It is all a gimmick. Play the wind right, find a nice tree to lean against, be quiet and you should be fine.

Thanks everyone, I am gonna check out Gander Mountain for the Parker Kit. I went to the Archerytalk.com site. Lots of info but I could not find any for sale items. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place. I will look harder when I have more time. I read that to find my draw length I just measure my arms tip of middle finger to tip of other middle finger and then divide by 2.5. If this is correct then my draw length is 28.5. Knowing this, could I buy a used bow on ebay with this draw length or should I get one that is adjustable?

I am gonna start bow hunting next year. What would be a good first bow? I figure on getting a used bow to start. I can only spend at most $300 on the bow itself. I then have another $300 to get the arrows, broadheads, target, harness, and treestand. I would just like to know what brands are good. I know Mathews is the best but I will never get one for $300, even used. I heard Martin Archery is good and so is Mission. Any suggestions?

Decent looking buck. Does not look out of the ordinary for Illinois. Not sure why anyone would say the pic was photoshopped. It just looks like someone scanned the pic and then posted it. I agree with Burt, why do we have to question everything someone posts. This was just a nice pic of a nice deer posted on a hunting forum.

good point Bub--ba! I couldn't help myself. I have been waiting for you to chime in just so I could.

Yeah Bub!...I just wanted to say Bub!

But if it is true then so be it. It is the right of the landowner to have as many people hunt his property as he want to. The DEC should not be allowed to regulate how many deer are taken legally on someones property.

I hunt a 700 acre farm. Over the course of the entire gun season we took a total of 25 deer. On the last day of the season I was the only one to get one. There were very few tracks and of the 5 guys we had there that day we only saw 6 deer total. I find it very hard to believe that 60 deer were taken unless this is about a 2000 acre farm and there were about 40 hunters. The deer just vacate the property with that much pressure.

Wow, I love conspiracy theorists and anti-govt rambling. Hey Mr VJP, ask Somalia what its like to have little or no govt making laws. I bet they would take laws and govt any day over what they have. This started as a simple thread about back tags and an explanation of why they are used in Wisconsin. Now it has turned into an anti govt get rid of all laws and lets have total anarchy thread. Yes there are some laws that don't make sense but to have such strong feelings about back tags shows some serious paranoia. After reading the article I think a great explanation was given and because of this I think back tags should be required in all areas, not just southern zone but northern also. If it helps catch trespassers and possibly poachers then I support it. I don't think it has anything to do with "Big Brother" imposing on our freedoms.

2010 Deer Harvest Thread - Post your Pics and Success Stories!
jimbodwb replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Nothing like waiting till the last day to fill my buck tag. Shot him at 75+ yards in between 2 trees while it was freezing rain and foggy and hard to see. I could not see him well but my scope picked him up perfect. It was easily my most difficult and best shot yet. Got a lung and top of his heart and he only ran about 50 yards. The doe I shot on opening weekend. She was a big girl, about 160 live weight. -
So under your logic, a release should not be allowed for use with compound bows because essentially it is a trigger.

So what's so bad about NYS deer management and the hunting season??
jimbodwb replied to First-light's topic in Deer Hunting
I agree with starting bow season Oct 1st. But I also think gun season should start 1 week earlier and end 1 week earlier. The gun season in Southern Zone starts too late. Why shouldn't gun hunters have part of the chasing phase? -
Cabin Fever, I hope not, I took the pic! I don't know why he wasn't smiling for the pic, he had a perma-smile all day except for the pics. hunterjohn, Out of 16 guys and gals that hunted the farm this weekend, we took a total of 11 deer. There were 6 bucks (this 12, a 10, two 6's, two spikes) and 5 does.

My buddy Kevin shot this monster on the same farm I shot my doe today in Herkimer county, town of Ilion. In the pic of him standing next to the deer, Kevin is 6'2" and goes about 260lb.

Shot her today at about noon in Herkimer county.
