  1. I'd say i'm indifferent. I like the idea of 12-15 being able to use Xbow as well as anyone over 40 years old. I know my uncle would love to use one during archery. He got me into hunting and know that his shoulders are getting bad along with his eye sight, which deters him from sitting during archery. I'm sure he'd participate more if he could use a crossbow. (he's 70 years old)
  2. My buddy has been hunting a strip of public land in westchester and had a shot at a beautiful buck yesterday morning. Unfortunately didnt make it happen, but said that he was chasing three does. Just had another buddy watch two bucks sparring about 70 yards from his stand about 3 hours ago. Seems like they are getting pretty aggressive right out of the gate!
  3. Found em about 150 yards from where I bumped em. Absolutely STUNK. Sun was beating em on and the flies were going crazy. I got one lung/ liver, and stomach. What a tough animal. Was 250 yards from where I shot em. So glad I backed out and waited. Looked like he was dead for a few hours by the time I got to him, but better safe than sorry. Thanks everyone for the good juju!! I gut em and just stuffed him/ covered him with bags of ice. Will hang em up overnight . Hopefully the meat is good My wife was so happy for me that she took a few awesome pics when I got him home. 7. Gonna wait until 4:00pm. Gives me two and a half hours. Im sick over it. Opening day openig morning... never had the buck pass by on cam. We'll see Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I gave him about two hours and just went looking for him. Blood was super spotty so I walked in the general direction and just bumped him. Going to come back around 2 PM Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Just shot a great buck! He ran 10 yards the. haunched over and walked away. Checked my arrow and then backed out. Thinking liver. Ive been here before and lost the deer, so i'm buggin out. Any place he stopped has great blood, spotty after that. Its been an hour already. Gonna give it another hour then head in Wish me luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. There is just so much food around this season with a heavy Acorn / Apple crop, that they haven't been passing through any of the plots that we typically hunt. Hopefully the cooler temps of October have em moving a bit more
  11. What a cool animal. I've seen something similar in Westchester county, but didnt know they were around here.

  15. I just got back from my first Archery Elk hunt in the Lemhi mountain range in Leadore Idaho! This was my first guided hunt and first time hunting out west. Although I didn’t get the monster bull that I had been dreaming about for the last 9 months, we hunted our tails off and I couldn’t be happier bringing home some meat. The first day of the trip was spent scouting and glassing for elk. We saw tons of bulls coming in and out of the alfalfa fields every evening and morning and planned our ambush points along the pivot fields for the following day. The second day we called in a spike bull, but I decided to pass on it with the hopes of a bigger bull presenting itself to us later in the week. It was incredible to call in an Elk to 40 yards and watch him mill around for a minute or so. What was even more incredible was that as soon as he winded us and ran off, a 140” class whitetail walked infront of me at 15 yards perfectly broadside (Will have nightmares/dreams about that for months). Unfortunately, I didn’t have a deer tag, but was still very cool to see. The rest of the week was spent glassing and getting on cow elk, but unfortunately no other bulls came within 200 yards of us. Day 5 me and the guide were glassing a drainage and were watching a nice spike heading towards one of our buddies from 500 yards away. We ended up watching him make a 60 yard shot through our glass and the bull go down. This was his first Elk ever and had his two sons and son in law there to share in the experience. It was a bucket list hunt for him and he couldn’t have been happier. Really cool to see one of these animals up close (I should have shot the spike my second day!) On day 6 (The day I was leaving) we had a massive 6x6 heading towards us down a fence line in the direction of a group of Willows that we had been hunting. Unfortunately, it spotted some cow elk in the opposite direction and started heading their way and wouldn’t respond to any of our calls. With just hours left in my hunt, We spotted a cow elk headed down the same fence line and was able to make a 30 yard shot to put her down. The property we hunted was one of the most incredible places I’ve ever seen. We saw dozens and dozens of elk, about 20 different moose, 100’s of antelope, wolves, badgers, some real nice mule deer and more Whitetail than I’ve ever seen in my life. We hunted extremely hard and had an incredible guide who truly taught me how to become a better / smarter hunter. I’ve never hunted outside of New York before and can see how people can become obsessed with Elk hunting. I also drew an Antelope archery tag and tried to spot and stalk one for the 6 days I was there. We had a few blinds set up over watering holes, but the antelope wouldn’t cooperate and come to the holes while we were sitting there. The terrain was incredibly open and wasn’t ideal for a solid spot and stalk. I learned that wearing a white shirt acts as a decoy and allowed me to get within 100 yards of some of the antelope. I never felt comfortable making a shot over 60 -70 yards on an animal like that, so I never was able to get a shot off. It was like trying to sneak up on a whitetail in an open field with 40 other white tails staring at you. To wrap up the week, I just got off the phone with the local butcher and will be receiving all of my meat within the next few days. Truly an incredible trip and cant wait to do it next year. Here are some of the pictures I got from the trip! Mike's first Elk. Nice spike! Probably my first selfie ever. Some beautiful country My first Elk ever One of the 20 Moose we saw Some nice mule deer One of the bulls that we were hunting. Was coming in and out of the Meadow that we were sitting at every morning, just before sunlight Hitting the glass hard
  16. Found another dead head this passed weekend. Forgot to post it. Was turkey hunting and came across the lower jaw. Figured the head was somewhere near by and found this poor guy 40 yards away. Had a pack of 4-5 coyotes on my cams all winter long. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Yea its pretty good. Id rather have a longer stabilizer personally, but don't want to deal with the hassle of removing it everytime i have to put it in my case. I also like the fact that i can offset the stabilizer and help with its balance (left to right) It also acts as a handle as well.. since I have the bad habit of walking in the woods holding my bow string. Figured i'd give it a chance and it seems to be working well.
  18. I set my bow up for my Elk hunt this September, so was shooting Slick trick magnums, 125g. I aimed for the neck when I missed last Saturday, so I went center mass. I have a screen blind from Rhino Blind. Thing is super mobile and easy to set up. Set it up about 20 yards from the decoy and worked perfectly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Thanks fellas! Had a close one last Saturday but really blew the shot big time. You don't get opportunities like that often... so really pumped It all came together again this morning. Besides being delicious, his beard & fan will make a beautiful mount. One of his spurs was worn to a nub and the other was about 1" long. Definitely a good bird!
  20. I roosted a bird last night and made all the preparations to head in this morning with hopes of getting a bird with my new bow. Morale was pretty low since I've had a rough turkey season so far with 1 missed turkey and some sloppy weather on all of my days off. As soon as first light came I gave a few clucks on my caller and heard a gobbler going absolutely mental about 70 yards from me. I heard him fly down and start coming in, but got hung up around 40 yards and was scanning the horizon. I went silent and waited to see what he'd do when he spotted the Decoy and started bee lining into it. I saw an opportunity to draw when he went behind a huge rock pile and waited until he was about 20 yards out. For the first time in my life i was able to calm myself down and go through all of the steps in my head. Make sure the pin is on him, bow is leveled, and that i'm looking through the correct eye ( unfortunately I've missed this step before) He stopped 20 yards broadside and I drilled him with one in the chest. He jumped up and flew about 50 yards away and hit the ground running. He must have went another 40 yards and piled over. Got in the woods at 4:45 and had my bird by 5:30am. Cleaned him up and was at work in the city at 9:00am. I had a plan and stuck to it and it worked out perfectly. I was so excited to get my first turkey with the new Mathews!! Cant wait to make some Turkey Scarparello tomorrow night. Picture posted below!
  21. Thanks man... yea I'm all ears on this one. Love the opportunity to learn and potentially put some meat on the ground. I splurged and bought the Kuiu Chugach rain set. Pretty penny, but super light and relatively quiet. Of all the boots that i've used in the past, my $30.00 Kamik's have outlasted them all. Super comfortable. Wore them for a week straight while pushing bird / rabbits this past winter. I have 2 pairs, so will prob bring em both
  22. Another pic of it. I deff think it was from last year. Backbones, pelvis, and ribs were everywhere. Shame, great deer I also found this one... Great mass, too bad it got chewed up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Found this today while shed hunting! Hands down best find to date. Absolute GORGEOUS deer. Does this count as a shed?! LOL Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
