  1. Definitely Sawyer Permetherin spray. Dick's is carrying it in a 9 ounce can for 8 bucks. Works like a charm.
  2. Don't get me wrong, I'm not giving up yet. Next Tuesday that switch next to Paladino's name is still getting pulled.
  3. I'm not sure where you;re going with that one Bubba but I've believed that stuff was unnecessary for a long time. My grandfather went out every year with a SxS 16 guage smoothbore with external hammers, a flannel shirt, and blue Dickie's workpants and he did just fine. I am of the opinion that half this stuff is for the hunters more than for the game.
  4. If the law is changed, I'll abide by it and hunt accordingly. However, I just see no need to change it. I feel as though this is one of those issues where no side will ever budge. People are just going to beat it to death and not many are going to change their minds
  5. I'm not trying to say muzzleloaders are inaccurate, I'm trying to make the larger argument that you would not be in favor of someone telling you that you could no longer hunt the way you want to. Our deer herd seems plenty healthy to me (aside from the CWD aspect) and there are plenty of them. Maybe we don't have Missouri sized bucks, that doesnt matter to me. I posted on another topic a link to an article in field and stream magazine making tha argument that the quest for big racks is killing our sport. I'm of that opinion. I also am of the opinion that people need to live and let live. Respect each others hunting style and stop trying to tell each other what to do. I'm not saying it's you, but people in these arguments remind me of the bible thunpers in politics. They think one side is morally superior to another and try to force that idea on them.
  6. I'm a college student man, I can't even afford a Remington 770, how am I going to afford an A-Bolt? lol
  7. NYAntler, let me pose you this question. You've just established your preferences hunting. What if one day someone came along and said flintlock muzzleloaders are too inaccurate and from now on only highly accurate bolt action rifles with top quality scopes were allowed. Would you think that situation was unfair because someone else was telling you how to go about having your hunting experience? My guess is yes, you would. That's the way many of us feel about the AR debate. We don't feel that it would be fair for another person to dictate our hunting experience.
  8. What model of the 700 is that? Does it have a floated barrel?
  9. You can get the SS stalker w/ a Nikon Prostaff for $700 at Dick's
  10. I practice out to 40 but I'd prefer to not take a shot longer than 30. I'd reach out to 40 for the right deer in the right conditions though.
  11. I know of a button buck taken, and a spike and a few other missed.
  12. I'm 20 years old and I've been hunting for 4 years. I love the whole experience, I don't get off to killing but I do work hard for any opportunity I get. I don't get nearly enough time in the woods due to school and work so when I get a chance to go out and even see a buck I will take the opportunity to harvest him. And you bet your ass I will grip his little spike antlers and smile just as wide as you with a 150 class. It's rewarding to me just as a big mature deer is to you. I respect your love of mature deer but a big rack for the wall just isn't that important to me.
  13. Yeah it will get some feed back. I would shoot young bucks. I have never gotten a deer with my bow and I would be proud as hell to get any buck. I don't find it easy at all. What makes you think you're better than the rest of us? Can't we just each hunt our own way and agree to disagree without throwing around insults and mocking each other.
  14. A guy I work with actually got a big 6 point the other day using one of the estrous incense sticks. He claims the deer completely changed it's direction once it caught wind of it
  15. These days everyone is so obsessed with scent control that they are willing to shell out hundreds, even thousands of dollars on suits that are guaranteed to hide human odor, $25 bottles of laundry detergent, and $7 bars of soap. Yet at work the other day I had a guy tell me he had a deer walk to within 20 yards of him while he was smoking a pipe. Now scent control is important, no one can refute a deer's natural fear of HUMAN odor. But, what about scents that are unfamiliar like pipe smoke? Native Americans have been using wood smoke to cover their scent for centuries due to it's antibacterial nature and a deer's lack of alarm at the smell of smoke. Toss in the fact that people swear by vanilla extract as a deer attractant. I'm going to do an experiment and smoke a vanilla flavored pipe tobacco in the stand the next few outings, what do you guys think will happen?
  16. I agree Doc, I've been a Paladino supporter from the start just because he seemed genuine in trying to fix this state. I also have a real problem with career politicians in that they govern for their own benefit, not as a service to the public. This country was not set up to function with career politicians in office but it's too late to go back. Like I said, Paladino would at least try...and if it didn't work it would at least be entertaining. This is all a moot point however, as i don't see crazy Carl being elected any time soon.
  17. Paladino shot himself in the foot when he made that comment about homosexuality. Not a smart thing to say when you're trying to be elected in a fairly liberal state. The way my mother put it, "Cuomo won't get anything done. Paladino will be equally useless. The upside is that Paladino will be like that hockey team that can't really play hockey worth a damn but gets into a lot of fights so people wanna watch."
  18. Nothing last weekend in 4j but hopefully that will change this weekend.
  19. There are a series of 4 videos on youtube by a guy with the handle, williescountrymeats. There are no words to describe how much his video helped.
  20. Yeah i think I mentioned before that I work at a Dick's. People come in with those all the time thinking they're real. I'm glad I came across this thread when I did though, I'm buying a new climber at work tomorrow and an extra 10 bucks off with that coupon will go along way with my feeble college student budget.
  21. Does that ad say that you can put the mossberg 500 barrels on the Remington 870?
  22. I'm a bit late here but the $10 off 25's are fraudulent and they won't be accepted.
  23. I've found that wounded deer typically head for water. We had one a few years back run to a creek, run IN the creek about a half mile and then jump out and run...no blood trail to follow. Check out known water sources, if it's dead I'll bet money he's there or somewhere nearby.
  24. I use slick tricks as well. I put a slick trick on one arrow and a field point on another to see just how well they flew and the broadhead actually shaved the vane off the field point arrow, it was that close.
