  1. Sure thing. I don't know anyone down your way for trapping. I'm getting into trapping 'yotes this year as well. In my opinion they are the main reason for the decrease in deer numbers. I'm seeing way too many does with no fawns. I've seen them take more than one fawn, and even a full grown buck in the winter. So, my mission once deer season is over is to thump on 'yotes.
  2. I just found this site too. Where in 6A are you located?
  3. Actually, new to both. Well, I've hunted 'yotes before, successfully, but it's been a loooooong time. I'm probably going to save them for after the season. If you're interested, let me know.
  4. Do you usually hunt 'yote's after deer season? I used to hunt them in PA when they were stupid and easy. Never hunted them here though. I'm going to try to help some friends decrease the numbers on their land they let me hunt. Calling, in the thick stuff using a 12 gauge and #4 shot. We'll see how it goes.....
  5. I tried to work on the pic a bit. I'm still pretty new to all this stuff....
  6. The pics are better on my laptop than in the posts. I think it has to do with the size. I did put it high, but that was because of necessity. Lower, and the weeds are too high to see the deer... lol.. I'm trying to convince my brother in law to mow this particular right of way. The good news, I did find a new spot to put the camera where it can be lower. I'll move it this week and see what comes up then...
  7. LOL... love the vids of the Cons. getting those morons. As for tresspassing issues, I ran into a few guys on my B-I-L's place last year. They didn't believe me when I told them they were crossing the property line. So, he got the land surveyed, posted, and is planning on prosecuting them if they come back this year. I grew up in SW Pa and we always had a problem with tresspassers. The worst I saw was when a guy drove his pickup truck through a fence, parked at the top of a hill in a corn field and went hunting in the woods below. Well, my Pap found the truck easily due to the huge ruts in the corn. So, my Pap first shoots a few holes in the truck, taking particular aim at things like radiators, windows, and radios, gets the tractor, hitches it to the truck and drags it down onto the road, then up the road, with the truck still in park mind you, and into the barn where he locks it up. He then calls the sherriff. So, this guy shows up at Pap's door because he sees the sherriff's car and says his truck has been stolen, admitting he parked on the "state owned corn field land". The sherriff then proceeds to ticket the guy for tresspassing. The guy demands his truck back, which Pap agrees to do. The guy sees the truck and of course flips out. Pap simply says, guess there was lots of shootin' going on in that corn. Guy calls my uncle to town the truck, which he does.. for a fee, and that's the last we heard of it. Granted, it helps if the Sherriff is your brother.
  8. Here in St. Lawrence County, the judge will only issue Outdoor Recreation permits only. I can carry if I'm hunting, hiking, camping, fishing, canoing, backpacking, oh, and my favorite.... BERRY PICKING. So basically I can carry just about any time I want so long as I'm going to be hunting or target shooting and that's what I do when I'm at work anyway. But I can't carry to and from work, even if I stop at the range, because I work at a school, and can't have a gun, even locked in a case in a locked vehicle, on the grounds. > Oh, and to whoever mentioned the PA permit, yes it's 26 bucks, apply in Centre County, PA, but, I'm not sure Non-resident permits get the reciprocity from other states...
  9. I'm up in Potsdam. Anyone near there?
  10. Hunting around Potsdam. Coyotes have put a hurting on the fawns, so numbers are waaay down... So, I'm taking up 'yote hunting... ;D
  11. Hmmmm... I may want to take you up on that some time... never hunted with dogs...
  12. Hmmm... I've seen those kids somewhere before..... Wild-about-trapping forums I think.... busy kids.. good...
  13. I'm 45 minutes from there and keep meaning to hunt it, but never do... :
  14. I'm in the same boat. Doc called it a cone deficiency, or "shade blindness". I can see colors, but not variances. All dark colors, red, blue, green, etc are black, and all lighter colors like yellow, pink, etc. are white. So, I can see "blue" but not "dark blue". Tracking has been an issues at time, especially in maple forests. My solution has been very careful shooting...
  15. No friends, but plenty of family. Especially in-laws. They'e learned not to argue with me, because I always have counterpoints to their less than stellar arguements. Plus, I live in a college town... so, plenty of antis running around this place..
  16. My boys with the jake from May. Gotta find the pic of the bigger bird..
  17. I got a cam for x-mas and finally put it out in the woods. Didn't see a whole lot, but did get a few pics of this doe. I think she might have seen the red flash before the pic is taken...
  18. I carry a backpack with some essentials, the most important being toilet paper. It also has map, compass, water, water filter, snacks, first-aid kit, matches, garbage bags, headlamp, extra batteries, unscented babywipes, extra knife, and a survival kit in an altoids can. I think that's it???
  19. That's my turf... hunt and fish in both areas. If you need some help hunting at your camp, i.e. coyote control, let me know.... ;D
  20. Wait until they're off their roost. I like to scatter then while they are scratching and feeding in the woods. Best way I've found is to try and pattern them so that you know roughly where they'll be. Then, and this is important, PUT YOUR GUN DOWN. Sneak up on them, as close as you feel you can get. Then get up and run into the flock. I like to go "BOOGIE, BOOGIE, BOOGIE!" as I do so. Once they're scattered, move about 20 yds away, set up, give it a few minutes, then start calling. Other than that, a dog is your best bet, or a kid. ;D
  21. I've used milk crates and 5 gal. buckets in the past. Now I use a coleman camp chair. It's comfortable, and I actually like the "sink down" part of it because i'm pretty tall and it brings me down to window level in my portable blind.
  22. Eh, not too sure. I see deer haning out in small numbers from the road, but no large groups. I've only see one set of antlers so far. I'm collecting the chip from my trail cam tomorrow, so we'll see if anything's going on then.
  23. My oldest and I just took up trapping 2 years ago. We were potluck trapping and got nothing. Last year we managed one beaver. In total we are only running a dozen traps, a mix of 110, 220, 330, and adding weasel boxes and some 2cs this year. i think we're going to focus on the weasels. Our biggest problem is time, we just don't have any...
