New to this page, NY and most important hunting
Hardcore replied to Nowak8510's topic in Introductions
Welcome.....be aware that hunting can be rather addictive.... -
I don't watch them too much these days....way too commercial pushing products these days. These guys & girls are hunting premiere locations and unmolested deer. Not too mention that everything they see and shoot being 140" & up. So if you watch too many of these shows.....110" -120" buck that I might see looks like a dwarf ... Now if they would make real world shows where they are hunting heavily pressured deer it would be a different story.....don't think I wouldn't step into their shoes in a heartbeat though.

gun control as in 3 shots in the same hole @ 25 yds???? or only outlaws possess guns cause the laws strip us of them and the law abiding citizens become victims??.......lol kidding I got ya......

i'm sure you wont have any issue unloading that.....good luck.....and if no one scoops up the bow after a week....maybe I'll take it off your hands

I get the theory and it makes sense...HOWEVER... .45 Glock is my preference....if someone enters your home/business/etc while there are people there....what the hell is going through the perpetrators mind????.....I would shoot to kill with EXTREME prejudice so some thief/rapist/murderer or team of enters a home jacked up on god knows what with bad intentions...a .22 cal is not stopping them unless its a brain lights out shot. the adrenaline alone is enough to keep a wacko coming without being doped up.... This sounds crazy but I have witnessed two people shot with a .22....one guy was running and took a .22 LR to the back of the knee. He stumbled and kept running jumped into the back of a pick up and away he went. The bullet entered and bounced from the knee and came out about mid thigh. Other guy was shot in the abdomen with a 22 pistol and described it to a hornet sting on steroids. He didnt fall down....he ran. Also using a gun for home protection, in my mind a responsible owner is going to lay out potential situations ....(without a gun in hand)....imagine people entering from any door window etc to gain entry and where you would more than likely be when this occurred, what is behind the target zone??....kids bedrooms??.. just run through potential situations and not that anything would ever prepare you for an event like that but a little pre planning and awareness of your surroundings ....could make the difference

What is your greatest memory while hunting?
Hardcore replied to DeerStalker22's topic in General Hunting
tough one for me being that I have many great memories....I would go with taking my daughter hunting and taking a nice size doe....after our agreement prior to the hunt, that dad wasn't shooting any girl deer...does came out @ 200 yds working towards our stand. after watching better than a dozen deer for over an hr @ about 400yds across the field...she was stoked, so when the new arrivals showed up she had enough....shoot it dad...so i turn to her to and remind her its a girl deer and we aren't shooting them....she replies no dad shoot it, shoot it....so I take the doe and watch her crash just inside the woodline, we get down and follow the blood trail....we walk up on the doe and she looks at me and says with amazement...she is beautiful. I chuckled and said, yes she is.....obviously one I'll never forget -
Don't know about zipline....but deer on a swing.....

If I could draws circles & post it I would...this thread is going in circles.....they might be misshapen circles but circles none the less....

Jon boat or canoe like most suggest....or dbhunters idea on a tractor inner tube. I would opt for a piece of plywood on top. You would need a bike pump stored with it in case it needs air...these things can be enormous...as far as deer being bothered by a boat...I doubt it...once they were used to it they wouldn't pay it the slightest of attention....

I have a couple in the shed. Plastic base with the chain that goes around. Folding cloth seat that usually gets eaten by mice! Every so often they make it back into the woods. I used Loc On LEMs & Spirits for 20ish yrs...loved them....light and too easy to hang...but these days I am shooting for more platform size, seat height and COMFORT. I ve used Big Game, Ameristep, Warren & Sweat, few different el cheapo models & the Muddy Outfitter I love the MUDDY...so odds are I go for another, I know a lot of people are crazy about the Lone Wolf but other than the price, i dont see the seat being that comfortable. Millennium is another hot one but the Muddy has the bigger platform so my hand tips to the MUDDY.

Lurking....last thing I wanna do is get in a heated debate or continue to steer the thread away from the OP's intent....good shooting should be built around consistent form....keeping the same anchor point is very important for consistency ....same grip of bow, slight bend of non draw arm....you should essentially be exactly the same every time you shoot...any variation will cause inconsistencies ....
-
Congrats on taking the plunge... a lot of fun and will definitely extend your season....mo hunting D Loops..... When being fitted for a bow...Bow shop should have you draw an arrow with measurements on it, when you hit your anchor point...there's your draw length.... I have a 29" draw and shoot with no loop...if I added a d loop this would add approx 1/2" to my draw length which would cause my anchor point to change....not a good thing...I would need to reduce the DL on the bow so I return to my anchor point....anchor point should always be the same no matter what kind of bow or set up you have

How to shut up an idiot...

Maybe CNN doesnt care for an Ex Pat voicing his opinions on the US and our gun laws....read a story that CNN is pulling his show,,..I agree he is a horse's arse... -
Just looking for thoughts and opinions on favorite hang on stands. I have used quite a few hang on stands over the years. I am very partial to the Muddy Outfitter these days, rock solid when in the tree, seat as comfortable as I've used, good seat height and platform size. Contemplating another stand and comfort is paramount as well as ease of hanging.

I don't think I have enough time to post all the cases of buck/deer fever I have dealt with. Thankfully most of them occurred in my youth and cost me a number of deer and countless laughs for my dad...so a few of note.... the first time I ever saw deer from a stand....10 yrs old....two does run in and stop 20ish yds in front of me and start feeding..they trot off after a minute or two....(this is the point in life that absolutely hooks my deer addiction for life)...as soon as they leave I begin to shake, uncontrollably. 5-10 mins pass and my dad comes to retrieve me from the stand...i'm still shaking. I am pointing around from the stand like a mute and cant get down. I make it to the ground after threat of repercussions from dad and cant talk....still shaking uncontrollably....after I finally explain that I saw deer....stuttering and still shaking ...dad has to lay on the ground he is laughing so hard. first deer I ever shot @...I was 11 sitting on the ground very cold november morning....a very small spike comes in and I start shaking. He is feeding on acorns and presents a shot and I attempt one. Mind you I am back to uncontrollable shaking and don't know if I shot into the ground or at the moon. Deer bolts and within a few minutes dad comes running...I cant speak...shaking ....dad is on the ground again laughing. I have for the most part been able to control the fever thankfully but had multiple bouts until 16-17 yrs old..but have had minor doses since..even to this day I sometimes find myself developing a subtle shake in my legs occasionally when a doe that I have no intention of shooting comes in... I can control it but it makes me laugh and think of the days when I was stricken with fever...I started talking to myself either in my head or a whisper when a deer comes in...basically giving myself the play-by-play of the action, movements and intent I took the wife hunting for the 1st time a few yrs ago and we spend the afternoon overlooking a small food plot,,,,in a very hot spot...well out steps a wallhanger...a humdinger ...(I had taken her to the range multiple times made sure she was good with the .243. She actually was very good shot...I was impressed)...so we are in a double ladder and both have guns....I have him in the scope @ 90 yds broadside and he is none the wiser...I know she has him in the scope too....when I say " do you have him in the scope?" she says yes and I say shoot.....boom....he takes off like he was hit....he wasnt and I spent an entire day after scouring for blood...clean miss...anyway I get to see her go through buck fever in a bad way afterwards...pretty funny...I also told her that if you ever questioned my love you cant anymore because me letting you take that shot instead of me proves it forever....lol

with money no object, I would become a whitetail property farmer, study the herd year after year as like the ultimate job & retirement..I think 2500 acres of southern Illinois stretching into Kentucky...this way I would have multiple seasons options with about 70% wooded and 30% fields. Surrounded by die hard QDM properties.Since i would be rich and not have to worry about money I would spend my days improving the property and keeping the food plots at max potential ...off course the food plots would be year round high protein chow for my babies.....lol....carve out 20 acres for a reasonable but not over the top home....barns...tractor sheds. And should I be so lucky I would seriously try to make a difference for either the Make a Wish foundation, Wounded Warriors and other worthy causes by hosting multiple events/hunts yearly

could be a tumor or a wound from any number of sources....deer looks a little young to have a tumor that large.....??

Hopefully the OP got the info he was looking for...cause now this thread is about ....300-500 yd shots with rifles like they are easy....Canadian strip joints...& insane bow shots..... Biz....not to kick you while your down but I am going to guess your youthful exuberance is getting the best of you....majority of posts have said....it's not realistic....with no bow kills under your belt why not listen to the advice these guys are sharing.....your expectations are leading you on a path to disappointment

Any places you can parallel ...I.e ...fence lines , creeks, ditches. If the deer are jumping any of these they could drop on landing. If your area has a lot of shed hunters then also try to zig zag the periphery of the bedding areas as well as in the bedding areas. I have found most in or right on the edge of the bedding areas....to include ridge top overlooks where I have found the better sheds...shed hunting is hard business.

I had a quickee forever...still on my vintage 1996 Browning that I gave my dad. Great quiver on the cheap. I have moved on to a octane one pc and like it too. The quikee was my fave...no moving parts....great construction and function. Main reason I went with the octane was a vanity item so all my components matched the bow.

I think the thread is drifting from original intent of firearm shots.... To each his own but....about the max I am flinging an arrow @ a deer is 40yds....I am confident in hitting the mark and the energy of the arrow. Personally I feel it's unethical to shoot beyond that distance...a deer can drop 16" in the time it takes for an arrow to travel 20 yds...wounding or taking a cowboy shot @ game is not in my bag of tricks... I have seen "tv hunters" taking 60 yd shots and why they show that is beyond me....now ppl want to emulate them and taking risky shots...granted the technology has improved tenfold over the past 25 yrs but it is far from responsible in my book.... On these out west deals I think the avg shot is 40ish yds with 80lb set ups

Forgive my ignorance being fairly new to NY....an AR is illegal in the state?? I read rules and regs prior to coming and am aware of mag capacity. I have all my guns locked in a safe out of state being that I am in a borough....figured better to avoid the Sullivan Act and the tight restrictions on long guns....

If there are any quality clubs needing a safe, ethical member ....I am looking. I prefer Southern Zone. I am all for QDMA ....Also would be willing to lease land or join a few like minded individuals in leasing land.
