  1. Because your point is simply another emotional guess and opinion (which you say are worthless) until you post some stat's backing it up from states that have similar conditions as NY and have allowed the crossbow in all archery seaons. My point is, being against something soley on the basis it might have an unproven advantage (remember no opinion or emotion) while accepting hunting methods that allow the similar alleged advantage is plain hypocritical. Demonstrate to us how positioning for a shot with a crossbow when the deer doesn't walk to the exact spot (think shooting to the right or behind a tree with a bow needing some 18" horizontal clearance) would be any easier to not get busted then drawing a compound with <10 lbs holding wght. Even though there is a CLEAR advantage with a crossbow, whether you choose to acknowledge this is your issue. In addition, the direct result will be more people in the woods. And as a result there will have to be a change to the archery season if the cross bow is allowed in it. Regards - Captain Obvious
  2. I hunt in 3J, an area with AR. As of last year we started to see some of the benefits of not shooting the yearlings. Although it was not mandated on the property we hunt to not shoot spikes and youngins, it was preferred to allow the bucks to mature. Now that it is forced to do so, the entire area has improved with older bucks. Last year we saw the most 8's and 8 +'s in 10 years of hunting the area. What bothers me is the ones who oppose it are ones that do not have that restriction in their area. So they are NOT posting from first hand experience, they are posting from the articles written that oppose AR. And for every article that opposes AR there is one that contradicts it. First hand experience is what matters, and I have YET to run into someone that does not support it in my area.
  3. As a member pointed out, there are scopes available for the "crossbows" that enable you to shoot accurately up to 80 yards consistently. Why for the love of god would you want to pollute the archery season with these is beyond me. Again I respect the disabled, would have no issue at all with anyone who can not use a bow to use the crossbow in any season. For the few that posted replies to my comments attack so violently as if I am taking something away from them. And one intelligent member said most of these guys that are against it are going to be the first to run out and buy one. Thats so far from the truth its not even funny. I have a right to oppose the crossbow as much as you have the right to push it, so please get a grip.
  4. So what the deal with the bill? Did the Gov nix it like his should and send all the cross gunners to some other state? Hands down a cross bow IS NOT archery. It doesn't shoot like a bow nor act like a bow. I shot one, dead on, at 50 yards first shot. So dont give me some BS that its a bow or like a bow, it a gun that instead of shooting a bullet it shoots a arrow. All you crossbow fanboys are more then likely just a crap shot with bow and are looking for some easy way out.
  5. It is LOL because your puling crap out of your a$$. 10k deer statewide will not effect ANYTHING.
  6. Umm, No. Its in a specific WMU Now. Even state wide, its not going to have some crazy impact to hurt an entire herd. An extra 10k or 20k of bucks is not going to effect an entire state one bit.
  7. More bucks, larger bucks. Did everyone take one? No.... Who gets a buck every year. I don't. Is not shooting a spike hurting your hunting season?
  8. LOL Letting a few yearling bucks walk its going to make the herd starve, thats a new one. The hole point of AR is so that it gives those 1.5's the chance to get older, which you stated in your post. So... AR is working.
  9. First hand experience is what matters, everyone in an AR WMU that I know personally, including me has had positive results.
  10. Those who have it love it, those who don't seem to be afraid of it because they might have "tag soup". It's a shame, because in the small test area where it is now, its been nothing but positive. This comes from first hand experience as well as friends and family.
  11. I think its a great idea! I'd be interested in helping test or whatever. Collecting your own hunting logs must be awesome to read / talk about once you get a few hunts in there. It should be fun. How about adding a trip planner in there or season planner?
  12. Ok so lets try nothing at all and lets see how that works. Great idea! Better the state to try something rather then nothing at all. If your stating you have not taken a buck in 5 years and you don't shoot younger buck, then who gives a crap. Proof? It working in my area, and I'm glad its in place. I have not shot a buck in 5 years either, and regardless of "AR" we have our own AR on our land. We obviously can't control the land that surrounds us. And our "AR" was doing nothing, once the state mandated "AR" came into effect, three years later we magically start seeing bigger more mature deer. I'll take the "AR" you claim that doesn't work over no AR at all. And please, for the love of god, don't use the BS "I'll shake anyone's hand that gets a spike" crap. I'd do the same, I shame no hunter that takes any game at all. I'm not telling anyone in a non-ar WMU to not take whatever he/she wants. No one should be ashamed of what they take unless its illegal OR against the land owners rules that your hunting on.
  13. We are not talking about your area. Nor are we talking about 5 years old. He was pretty clear that 1yr and 2yr olds are all that was there. Therefore, the AR is allowing the 1yr and 2yr's to mature slightly before being taken. Which could result in slightly more mature deer and bigger bucks. Again, AR is not a one size fits all. In HIS case it may work. In your case where you want 5 year old deer it will clearly not work, unless your deer magically stay @ under the restriction until they hit that 5 year old mark. I've researched and gone over this for a while. AR as it stands in NY isn't perfect. A Spike MAY only be a spike whether its a 1yr or 5yr. A Spike maybe a spike when its 1yr then mature to be something better. What other way do you expect the state to have AR other then by points that could be possible at a WMU wide area? It's this or nothing. Because asking a hunter to start measuring age, width, etc is not practical or feasible. The poll show that most are wiling to give it a try, why be so negative. It has worked in the area I hunt, 3J. It has worked by others testimonies. Lets see where it leads us, is not shooting a spike really hurting your hunting season??
  14. No, I think he is pretty clear. Its to allow the buck to mature. Stop twisting crap around.
  15. I'd like to know as well, because there seems to be so many choices. Who do you trust?
  16. Since deer's patterns seem to change on season / food availability, when is a good time to check before hunting season for trails / travel routes and stuff so you know where to setup a good bow hunting stand?
  17. Who uses the old school tree stands. Ones you build yourself and generally build on tree groups of 2 or more? Any pics to share for idea's?
  18. When do the ticks die off? What time of year and or temp?
  19. WOW they are some big deer, unless your really small . Are they from NY?
  20. I'm sure what solon means by harass is he is going to post that information on the web just like the packing site did.
  21. Lets see the cowards address that did this on the interwebs. One can only pray he breaks into someones house that has a pistol registered in our State. I'm not upset the list was released, its the fact that this ass is gloating over it. Please rob my home, I won't mind. Lets see how these anti's feel after having their own home, car, person robbed at gun point. There is a big change of heart after the fact. I don't understand their motive, why break a honest citizens back when there are bigger fish to fry. Legal registered law abiding citizens are NOT THE ONES COMMITTING CRMIES WITH GUNS!
  22. Its mirrored all over the web not by this a$$'s, so I see no harm in posting this link: http://nypistoldb.110mb.com/ Messed up if you ask me.. Its a CSV file, you need to open it with excel 2008 or higher and or a text editor because its a large file.
  23. Who is wally and where is his world? (for real)
  24. Hi Matt, For sure, I think its better already. Lots of guys finding the site the last few days which is great. The old site was good, but it seems most of the BS was left with the old site also. Some great convo's on here I been following, at least people are staying somewhat civil hehehe.
