  1. Anything two days in advance or more seems to rely on a lot of guesstimation. I like how the farmers almanacs snowfall predictions turned to gospel because of a typo and an East Indies volcano eruption. It reminds me how random weather forecasting is. If i were a meteorologist id be john madden drunk everynight when i forecasted and pointed at the green screen to help me feel better about my predictions.

  2. post-5027-14474560708947_thumb.jpg 9 pt state land prolly the smallest buck out of the three i saw in there this morning but limited time so tagged out. I might sit there opening gun morning cuz i kept consistently seeing a nice one and it was such a drag my climber got left behind

  3. Yeah that was june too he has gotta be a lot heavier now. This was taken about a quarter mile away from my house. I've heard of two locally shot bears this bow season and they def weren't this bear.

  4. This was taken in early june in steuben county. He is eating at a birdfeeder. Any weight guesses? He looks big to me. I'm new to tapatalk hopefully this downloads right

  5. Corning NY has a few rattlesnake dens in the immediate area. Just north of Painted Post on the interstate the rest stop is fenced off with warning signs all over the place about timber rattlers. South Corning has rattlesnake encounters as well. They seem to be isolated areas tho because anywhere else in the area rattlesnakes aren't around. Isn't there a myth that if you smell cucumbers snakes are around?

  6. I acquire the target with my left eye closed and just my right eye looking through the peepsight then aim and release with both eyes open. I'm self taught so I dunno if that is correct form but it works for me. You see the point of impact clearly so you have a great idea of what kind of shot you made.

  7. I hunted with a ten to 15 ft wide creek to my back. One morning I hear a ruckus upstream and watch two decent bucks lightly spar in the creek for a bit just splashing and tinkling horns. A little later right behind me a hear splashing. I always see beaver, but turn around to check it out and it's an otter. It plays and scratches itself on both banks slowly going downstream. A log bridges the creek downstream and as the otter swims below I see a bobcat lying there watching the otter who swims just a foot or two below it. The bobcat watches then crosses the log and the marches right under my stand. This was a few years ago in steuben county when both species were protected and extemely rare. The only time I've seen any of the three highlights of that hunt in the woods.

  8. There's about 15 dif Apple trees in the backyard and deer def have their preferences. The true crab apple and the wild Apple tree with gold ball size apples fall in the middle somewhere. Two are store bought trees, variety has been forgotten, that are postcard pretty with giant unblemished apples. I find them bland and the deer seem to like others more too. Another unknown store bought tree is near the house and it is an annual producer of sweet tasting nice apples that I love and the deer will risk getting closer to the house to munch out. Another wild tree that grew up from seed makes these nice sized apples that stay green kinda like granny smith that are tart and delicious. Luckily the deer like other apples in this little orchard of wild trees and I get those. The woodchuck down there likes the green ones best too but as long as he stays out of the garden I figured he does no harm let him be. He is a porker u should see all the half eaten apples between the apples and the hole he has ten yards into the brush.

  9. Where is the 'secret spot' guy and also the guys who hate gutting deer. My one good buddy will dry heave if the deer stinks it's pretty hilarious. He posted a decent buck on Facebook and I laughed when my other buddy said he wouldn't like it or post congratulations because of the shoulder length gloves he was wearing in the photo.

  10. I dunno how many ppl hunt these areas but 8t is pp pts only for tags and 8w is medium chance first doe tag. 8t has way more deer than 8w. 8w has way more public land. If they worry about deer population, this makes no sense. Anyone who hunts these areas or has any ideas about who makes doe tag quotas feel free to respond. And the best part is anyone can get 4 8r tags and when you go to a local butcher shop around here half the does have an 8r tag. Fyi I live on the 8t and 8w border and also hunt 8r.

  11. The last time I was offended when someone called me a DORK FOLLOWER was the 2nd grade. I'd agree it's hard to kill enough does within a QDM program when you hunt only 3 days a year but I doubt that is enough evidence to condemn everyone who manages land with QDM in mind.

  12. I know it's illegal but I don't have a problem with guys trying to get pics via minerals or corn or whatever. Fyi it's enough $ to feed the pets the deer can fend for themselves around me. Hunting over bait or salt is def unethical though.

  13. I concur I hunt 8w mostly but I have hunted 8t. If a first doe tag for 8w is medium then it should be the same for 8t because deer populations seem similar. In fact 8t seems to have more deer, at least in areas away from public areas. I also hunt 8r and they give everyone who wants 4 doe tags and it's not enough because it lacks hunting access.
