Hunting3m, take a bike ride to the outskirts of the city where there is woods in people's back yards. Before you go look at the tax records. I recently asked a person right next to my college which has some woods surrounding it packed with deer and residential housings but locked it up just by talking to him for 10 minutes

Ultra rest and apache are the best two drop aways in my opinion from all the reading I did. You can't beat the apache for the price and reliability. I couldn't use it cuz I have a hoyt turbohawk and it doesn't fit right on it. If I could use it I definitely would.

I've stopped to four houses. One that I got permission to was right next to my college and is loaded with deer. Guy was super nice and it helped I was also in the army like he was and was glad to let me hunt. Other two houses the people were not home. The last one I went to was because it is a spot I used to hunt when I was little and has since been sold and bought but the guy is a hunter and I understood being denied but still just gabbed for a bit. Either way, I find personally just pulling over on my way home from work to a house that looks like an old farm home or land owner and asking may seem scary but the worse they can say is go F off... Or they will let you hunt. Either way its worth a shot! Good luck!

I love spot Hogg products. They are great for supporting military members and offer unsurpassed quality. Look at the bulletproof sight they have. They stand behind their products, but I doubt you'll even need to try to return one.

From what I've heard and seen on maps. You should consider letchworth seriously as he has recommended you to do. I'd go there and get some walking and scouting done

I use the tax records available online to do my scouting and locate the owners to then go and ask to save time. Also look on the dec website and find places. If you expect someone to give you their honey hole or land they worked to find, think again... Just find a spot that looks good and scout it yourself. If it is over an hour drive to the public land then sometimes ill ask the general question if that land has deer on it not asking for the specifics, just to see if its even worth the time and money to go and scout for the hunting season.

I know personally the spots I've scouted aren't showing any monsters :/ but with that being said, in the past if it was brown it was down as the motto I've always been told but that's changing this year because of the education and different mind set this forum has brought me.

I'm pretty new to hunting and would like to plant some winter oats or some type of winter/ late fall plot. I have a four-wheeler and no farming equipment, so I'd like to hear what you pros would advise. I looked into the throw-n-grow mix and liked the concept if I raked it first then spread. it would be used in the cortland area in the woods, two spots which are slightly cleared. I would rake the area and then spread the seed in about a 20 yard by 20 yard plot for both spots. What ya think!?

I bought some garbage ones in the past but love my Quaker boy "Brawler buck" call. It is very well made and sounds so realistic and deep. Check your local dick's because i know the one in syrcause has them all wayyy marked down. like the quaker "meat hook" grunt tube is somthing like $5. And all those fancy primos ones are the same.

Hate to triple post but I want to add that for optics to save some money, look into refurbished Nikon products on Natchez.com or check out eBay for any other kind to save some money easily.

Well said, what I was trying to get at. For rifles now a days are made veryyyy accurate at the low price ranges they are sold at. But lack the nice quality furnishings and smooth actions.

Well I'll tell you this much. For 550 for rifle and scope you will be hard pressed to find much. Many rifles now a days come with a sub moa guarantee. So accuracy amongst most mid to high end rifles will be plenty more accurate than you'll need for a hunting situation. In my opinion you can't go wrong with these in this order... Weatherby vanguard II, TC venture, tikka, howa 500. Weatherby vanguard II is around 550 for the rifle. Amazing accuracy and quality. I own a TC venture in .308 and its a tack driver as well. Just doesn't have the luxury quality features like higher end rifles have. But I don't care for the money I spent and its use which is hunting its perfect.

I've never been to the ADK's (from Syracuse) but this year I am going bear hunting around cranberry lake and if I see any deer I just might make a deer hunt trip there too. I got two other locations for a weekend trip though this year for archery and ML
