  1. This must be it. I'm 100% they were the SST because the hunter dropping off his deer was bitching about them. There was barely a blood trail. They had that red tip. It was in the shoulder, with no expansion. I will try them out maybe this year. I love my lightfields just hate how after 100 yards they really drop and slow, just don't trust them after 120 yards
  2. Thanks for the heads up. Sucks because Clark's reservation is so large. No reason there shouldn't be bow hunting there. And I'll definitely grab a copy of the book. I tried calling Onondaga county clerks for info on the local spots. I was literally transferred to atleast 12 departments all deferring the job, then went back to the same person a couple times and she hung up on me. So I guess I should just give up and try going door to door. Any of you ever tried asking land owners? Any luck?
  3. Yeah, I always use it to find out contact info for those areas that I drive by and wonder... HMM who owns that that, no posted signs, looks like a good spot. So hopefully one of these days I can lock up a good spot. (hopefully)
  4. I know this is a bit late but I found for my county (onondaga) I found online all of the tax parcel divisions. There is a view of the land like google earth, and the street view. you can click the parcel you want to find info, it will say who owns it, how much acreage, and contact info. Google "Onondaga county G.I.S. on the web" obviously change whatever county it is that you are in.
  5. I am in a club that leases a nice strip of land next to morgan hill and I love it there. Morgan hill is so large and not many people go there anymore. Definitly worth the drive but I was just looking for a spot that I can go during the week for a morning hunt before classes or whatever. I think my best bet is just to ask some land owners for access to hunt.
  6. thanks for the ideas, I need to make a trip out to the Cicero Swamp or Hamlin Marsh. They are only about 30-45 min away. I live like 15 min West of Syracuse. Anyone know if the Clarks reservation, Rand tract Park, or Pratts falls is huntable? I need to call the DEC and ask them about some spots that are green but have no info.
  7. I'd stick to just buying that organic meat... after getting the gear to hunt and investing the time into it you could have just worked for the money and been gauranteed a organic local meat source from a farm.
  8. I am working on a friend who happens to own an entire woods ~ 200 acres smack dab in the middle of the susburbs. Its hard though because they own european deer in a fenced in area and are the animal lover kinda people. I've just heard bad things about the cicero swamp and 3 rivers. I guess I just need to make a trip out there, I really want to take a day or so and go to montezuma. I have found that most of the old timers impressions of these public spots are still haunted by their memories of hunting as kids when the entire woods were filled and it was WWIII
  9. Thanks, I've already been looking around and liking it a lot =)
  10. Thanks for the info, but I was just saying a little story from when I was like 5. Havn't hunted even small game since then.
  11. Bass pro is hit or miss from my experiences. I try to stay away from them after having going there to look at bows and having a guy that knew nothing about them and was being an @$$. I make the extra long drive to tully NY and go to legends of the fall. Small local shop and they are awesome.
  12. And should I believe the man that is "instigator in Cheif / Director of misinformation". seems disconcerning
  13. Cool, thanks. I will do that now.
  14. Hello everyone =) I just wanted to drop in and leave some basic info and a general hello. I am 20, joined the Army Reserves in Febraury of 2012. I currently am a full time pre-med student in college and working two jobs to stay afloat. I primarily hunt in the tully/truxton area, Bville, and Marietta area. My dad was never a hunter and I was a odd child in the family who started hunting when I was 17 and struggled to afford the gear, guns and everything else. Luckily I have a good hunting buddy who has helped teach me what he knows in the woods. I think I've been a fast learner and am always in the woods scouting for the next season as I take all of my hobbies very seriously. I'm sure you will keep seeing me around, I sometimes try to make a joke but I am far from funny. Best of luck to you all and I hope to see some wall hangers posted on here this upcoming season! Brett
  15. I was curious if there is any smaller or not so well known state land spots around CNY. Everyone knows of the major ones advertised on the DEC website, but I find it hard to believe there isn't any other places that aren't featured on their site. I'm not asking for your secret honey hole land, I'm just asking if there is places that are public land to hunt and not on the site? There just isn't anywhere to hunt near my syracuse areas (camillus) besides the unique area by the canal which is littered by people walking their dogs let alone being able to bowhunt from the non-existent trees.
  16. Started hunting with baiting illegal species, what a good way to learn ;p
  17. Oh boy this brings back the memories of the daisy BB gun at my grandparents. Laying prone away from the bird feeder and once shot a dove and my grandma lectured me saying that her mate will forever be alone and die of sadness. Broke my little 5 year old heart. Will always remember that walk of shame.
  18. Awkward moment when his neighbor has it hanging by the tree next season.
  19. Nice! I'm getting excited to pull my cams in the next week or so to see the fawns
  20. Well this may be a little late but I'm a new member with an average at best story, so here it goes. It was opening day of the regular season, I was hunting near tully NY, the weather was gorgeous. I was sitting in one of the guys stands that we hunt with on the property because my pre-season scouting lead my to believe that this ledge on the hillside is a hot spot for the deer. Well around 8:30 I see one buck and two doe come from the thick woodline infront of me ~300 yards. They were heading right in my direction. As I waited and waited, I noticed this rack was pretty nice. At the time I thought it was a decent 6 pointer. He got about 90 yards away, and the doe forked off right and he went left toward the hillside. So I'm just praying he doens't head down the hill. Fortuinately he kept walking toward my stand, and at 60 yards turned broadside and headed to the hillside again. As soon as he was about to sneek under a tree I pulled the pin of my trusty 870 and slammed him good. He took off and I was full of adrenaline. I could see the blood from my stand and saw him blop over about 60 yards down the hill. So I gave it a couple minutes and made my way down the stand. Comes to findout with was a small 9 point and my biggest buck to-date. It was a nice surprise to find his rack bigger than I expected it to be.
  21. Nice pics, they sure do look different through the scope
