  1. Nice to hear things are progressing . Been in a couple hundred fires, saw a lot of death made a couple saves . But we leave go back to the firehouse clean tools take a shower and go to bed and wait for the next one, while folks like yourself are left to try to move forward .

Something I need to focus more on.

Kind of makes this whole " bad deer season" seem silly doesn't it ........

    Keep,the faith brother !

Very well put. Really puts things in perspective.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you

  2. Over all have you all enjoyed the season?

Absolutely. An empty day in the woods is better than a good day at work. Much exercise and fresh air!!

  3. Heal quickly my friend and if you had to sacrifice any season i think you picked the right one. Opening day of muzzleloader and its 65 out. Debating of scrapping rest of day and get motorcycle out

  4. I start my hunting season the same every year !!! With the expectation of not seeing or killing a deer, then I'm not disappointed ...

I saw many , many deer this bow season and had encounters with two mature 8 points but couldn't get it done ,,, I passed many doe and young bucks ,, that's hunting ..

Being in the woods enjoying the outdoors is a blessing in itself...

Be thankful you are healthy and able to hunt many are not as fortunate..killing a deer is not only the only part of being successful...

Everybody's goals and hunting experience are different...Mine is taking a 2 1/2 or older deer,, I got two in front of me this year that to me is a success..

Well put!! I do enjoy taking a deer but I will admit I get much satisfaction out of just being in the woods. And when my son can go with me it's even better

  5. Have winterized motorcycles 3 times already and by the looks of the weather for the weekend, may be a fourth. Wife is itching to go out again. So appears the weekend will be on bike rather than in deer stand. Can never complain being able to ride in December!!

  6. Wow I really need to start proof reading my posts a little better or lay off the fire water. But you certainly make a good point. Enjoy and have a good season

  7. Finally got around to shooting the used Thompson black powder fun I bought used a couple years ago. No kicking muscled for not doing so earlier. This thing is awesome I can't wait to get out there!! This thing is surgical at 100 yards!! Let's hope/pray for better luck next week. Who else is hitting it with their muzzle loader next week

  8. That really stinks I can only imagine what it's like. Knowing your family is safe and loosing so much. I've been in fire department for years and seem so many people loose so much. Prayers to u and fam !!

  9. I am seeing most movement after legal shooting time very close but still after. By sounds many don't care about sunset. Majority of my evening hunts seeing 5-10 doe crossing roads, feeding in fields multiple spots on way home. So I know they are there just gotta time it right. Muzzle loader week here we come

  10. How about from my pickup window while headed home from hunt?? I have seen more deer running across road while I'm leaving my spot than I've seen on the woods. I think I'm gonna start carrying a big spot light in truck and leave gun loaded window ledge would make a great gun rest. Lol.

For those who can't tell that was sarcasm

  11. Very diff to tell externally once skinned look for excessive scar tissue if not much then most likely born with. If a traumatic wound remaining bone would most likely be jagged from birth prob rounded. Now I'm speaking from a human standpoint big medical back ground not a vet but basics are similar

  12. Sleeping in and warmth in the stand are overrated . The woods, whether it be deer hunting or spring bird hunting is my happy place. As long as I have a tag or two I'll be out there to the bitter end. It's not all about the harvest and taking something home. That's important but just being there is more important. The mysterious sounds you get to hear, the animals and birds you encounter, I learn something each and every time I'm out there broadening my knowledge.

Gotta say u hit the nail on the head. From someone who hasn't bagged one in longer than I care to admit. I find the most joy in just being outside away from it all. Coming home empty is still better than a good day at work and I love my job....... Well most days lol

  13. This sounds like my story exactly. As a kid shot many deer have spent countless hours with father who is an avid hunter of 50+!years also some well know whitetail experts in NYS I will admit I am not by any means an expert hunter obviously but also not something I just started. just seems I am not in the right place at right time.

Oh well I will continue to keep scouting l, sitting, being outdoors and most of all spending time with kid so will most deff enjoy

    Good luck two track

  14. I am in the same boat. What makes it worse is since I have decided to hunt and do everything on my own I have not gotten one.

This year i was somewhere new and in the woods. I did not do any work this year at all, only approved the tree for my stand.

I know I have learned a few things and plan on learning more there and cleaning some stuff up.

Season not over so good luck.

    Same to you

Opening day really burned me plenty of deer running around I posted land for neighbor farmer and he assured me I would be only one in certain area only to find a multitude of other running around along with a 4x4 right by my stand. Not making excuses just frustrating lol

  15. That's been my exact thought lately been spending much more time in stand this year

Not a big fan of the latest gadgets normally but our area just approved use of rifles but not bringing home the deer have a hard time justifying the purchase.

Got a good hard 5-6 days left this season and believe me not fussy lol

  16. In stand scouted a lot put stands near high traffic areas list seems they always move take diff spot. Father put me in stand on another busy trail and two just yesterday passed just over ridge (not on trail) where I couldn't get a shot. If this season comes up empty think I'm gonna invest in a couple trial cams instead of rifle

  17. Well I hate to admit how many years it's been since I came home with one of those brown 4 legged animals. I am not looking for the big one would gladly just get the average doe. I spend countless hours in woods, tried the scent stuff, scout ect. I see plenty of deer just not a shot. I see plenty during bow just not a shot then see plenty during gun just not a shot. Really want to buy a new rifle but guessing why and how do I convince the wife lol. It's sure a good thing I enjoy being out doors so much or may just get discouraged I hunt to be outside spend time with kid first then deer second !! Well two weeks left gonna burn up all vaca and sick time if I have to
