  1. To add, might also be interested in trade for some turkey decoys or calls.
  2. I'll be up tomorrow to walk the land and hopefully shoot some small game. Have you had any luck with the cottontails there Nomad?
  3. I'm a fairly new hunter, hunted for two years and this was my first season hunting deer. The only non-state land that I have access would most definitely be categorized as big woods. The majority of the land is made up of a very steep mountain with some low lands beneath it where the deer don't like to go. I like the challenge of hunting deer on a large mountain rather than from a stand on a farm. It's like baptism by fire for a new hunter and if nothing else has taught me patience in hunting. For those experienced with hunting the big woods in the Adirondacks what tips would you give to someone just starting out in the big woods?
  4. Thanks. Are both of them fully open to hunting or just parts of the land open for hunting? Looking on the DEC website and I can't find any info on that.
  5. I've got five 330 traps and a set tool for sale. The traps have never been used in the field. Starting asking price is $95. I'm in the Capital District, if the buyer lives near enough we can meet and exchange cash for traps or if not we can figure out shipping. PM me with offers or interest. Happy Holidays everyone.
  6. Anyone know of anyone state land in that area that has a good rabbit population? I've been looking pretty hard for a spot to get after some rabbits with no luck and heard that some state lands in the Cambridge/Washington County area have a good rabbit population, any truth to that?
  7. I was talking to my old high school football coach today and he told me that he's had good success hunting small game especially cottontails on a large chunk of state land near Cambridge. He hadn't been in a couple of years and couldn't remember the name of the WMU or exactly where it was. Has anyone had good success with rabbits in any particular patch of state land in the Cambridge area?
  8. This year was my first hunting deer. I have access to some private land in the Adirondacks. The land is mostly made up of a mountain with some lowlands that connect to some marsh and ponds below it. I only got access to the land late in the season, but will be hunting there next year and have access for the whole season. I focused mainly on scouting this year and actually shooting a buck was an after thought. I was up the last day of the season and found about 10 deer beds right near each other on one area on the south side of the mountain about half way up the mountain. My question is if deer will likely be bedding in this same spot next year. I had seen a couple of beds much higher on the north side of the mountain earlier in the season, not nearly as many as I did on the south side that day though. I can't say that they weren't bedding on the south side throughout the season as I had not spent much time in that specific area before closing day so I'm wondering if that is a spot I can rely on them being or if they are more likely moving down the mountain later in the season to make it easier to get to food and water when the weather picks up.
  9. Put the stalk on some turkeys I saw as I was finishing up my deer hunt today. Followed them up to some pines where they're roosting. Wondering if turkeys generally will be roosting in the same spot come spring or if they're more likely to move around.
  10. Anyone looking out to lease out some land with hunting opportunities shoot me a message. Thanks.
  11. I know it's pretty terrible timing, I didn't think I was going to be in the area during the season until very recently.
  12. I've been going around to farmers markets recently asking for permission in exchange for work, I'm thinking about going door to door and asking I just think that might be pretty unwelcome though. It sounds like you guys are saying that that is pretty common place though and wouldn't be very unwelcome?
  13. Hi guys. I'm looking to see if any farmers on here would be willing to give me some hunting privileges in exchange for giving them a hand around their land when they need it. I'd be willing to post land, stack hay, or any form of manual labor. I'd be happy to follow any rules or guidelines that you may have for people who you allow to hunt on your land. I'm in Albany county. If anyone would be ok with me getting rid of a couple deer for you in exchange for some work shoot me a message. Thanks guys.
