Interesting F&S article by David Petzal on respecting your quarry
blackradio replied to Caveman's topic in General Hunting
I get a little sad. When I find the deer I usually stand over it or sometimes sit next to it for a few minutes and just think about what happened. It's a beautiful thing. -
I tend to see a lot more action in the mornings, but I have a hard time getting up so I hunt afternoons probably more than twice the amount as morning. I still see more in the mornings though.

cool buck. I like the velvet or tree bark hanging from his antler.

One of the nicer bucks from this season...

good point. I'll talk to my friend today and see if we can slip a hang on stand somewhere close to that apple tree this week. thanks -
What's everyone's vacation dates for this hunting season?
blackradio replied to phade's topic in Deer Hunting
none, unless it's a paid holiday. Just started a new job last week )= -

the guy I hunt the property with (he let's me hunt there) has a stand on the other side of this swamp near where this buck is coming out but we've been unsuccessful in that stand the past few seasons. I think the bucks travel uphill slightly onto the neighbor's property and just skirt the stand. Last year we got the double drop tine buck on both of our cams, and I only saw him once from my stand. He was a few feet out of the swamp, about 90 yards from me, just grazing and we never got eyes on him again. Frustrating but I'm hopeful they'll slip up. -

if he keeps going the way he is going, there is an apple tree full of apples about 50 yards away and if he keeps going about 300 yards further there is another thick swamp on the neighbors property who does not allow hunting. -
I'd say right around 120"

bohning insert iron. good stuff

depends on how late in the season it is.

really hope to see him. This is about 200 yards away from my favorite stand. My stand is right next to a big swampy thick area and in this pic he is coming out on the other side of it. Hopefully he chooses to come out my way at the right moment.

My goal is to take an adult deer with the bow. I've been hunting for 2 seasons with the bow and have taken 2 yearlings so taking a nice doe or buck would be great. Other than that, meat in the freezer is the goal.

When I butcher my deer, I take off all the steaks and roasts. Everything else I cut it off the deer, I first decide if it's big enough for chunks and if it is and doesn't have too much silverskin on it, I'll bag it and use for stew and stir fry. All the other little, stragly and stringy bits I bag and label it 'grind'. I package the grind meat in small portions so I can take them out of the freezer, grind and eat at my convenience. Works perfectly for me.

hey fellas, anyone finding anything good? I got a new job so I have no time to screw off and find mushrooms at work. I was finding many chicken of the woods just driving down the road the past month or so but I have yet to eat them.

Looks like the first real giant of the season has fallen

99 Accord with 145k. Looking into trading it in and getting a 2006 Subaru Outback.

I like my Covert. Don't get a Primos.
-
I use a TR whisker biscuit. I'll give up a few fps for the convenience of it.
-
Don't buy primos. Nothing but problems and rude customer service to boot.

Gift to get someone who has everything?
blackradio replied to blackradio's topic in General Chit Chat
My lady already got the bride something. So i am supposed to bet him something and I'll give them both some cash anyway. -
I don't see any resemblence

I've nothing but problems with truth cam 35s. I bought 5 and gave 3 to a friend. Out of the 5, 1 works with few problems, 1 was stolen, and 3 are dead after less than 2 years. And this was after sending 2 of them back for problems. Won't be supporting Primos ever again. when it worked the cam took nice pics though. Hopefully you fare better than I.

I like the red stag bottle idea. I'll get him a bottle of that and something else (unless it's a really expensive bottle) -
