  1. Oh man thats awesome! Get him tomorrow!
  2. Who on this site has completed a NY slam? By slam I mean deer, bear, turkey & coyote. Gun or bow doesnt matter. Just curious! I have yet to get a bear or coyote.
  3. Congrats man, great pic!!! Any idea what happened on the first shot? Did you just knock him out for a bit?
  4. spot on about the orange tips....mine was a 2 year old. Thanks for that tip!
  5. You can clearly see the shot still stuck in the birds toe.
  6. After closely looking the bird over from head to toe, I noticed that this turkey had been shot before. In fact, he still had a pellet in his toe! So the fact that this turkey was shot before AND called in on public land makes it even sweeter!
  7. Damn you shoot some big spurred birds bro! Thanks for that info Im going to check the beard out later.
  8. I noticed on the Tom I shot that his spurs were a cream/white color fading to black on the tip. Has anyone seen this before? Is that any indication of age? They were 7/8" but this bird was one of three that never broke strut and appeared to be the dominant bird. I will post a pic when I can.
  9. Congrats man! Great bird! Must feel good to shut that one up!
  10. sweet! I thought I needed to have the card in the pic with the bird and myself. Thanks!
  11. the only way I can describe it is it sounds a like an engine humming in the distance for only a few seconds....like a vibrating sound.
  12. We got a double on may 2nd at 930!!!! Killed 2 out of 3 toms called in hunting on public land in schoharie county. My bird was 19# and the other 17#. Mine had an 8 in beard and 7/8 in spurs and his had a 9 in beard and 1 " spurs. My bird came in strutting, spitting and drumming to 15 yards before I shot him and my cousin took a second at 30 yards running away! Unbelievable hunt!
  13. wow I just read the rules again and I did not include the card with the bird....Disqualified?
  14. Well I took off from work the 2nd and 3rd and headed up to my farm with my cousin. We walked and called state land adjacent to my property until about 930. I cutt loud on my mouth call and got multiple gobbles over a hill. We setup and called only a few times and the birds reponded very close and suddenly appeared on the top of the hill 100 yards out. 3 gobblers with one that never broke strut the entire time (the bird I shot). They were standing on the hill for a while gobbling at my calling but they couldnt see my decoys from their angle. I kept calling to keep them excited then heard a live hen. i called over her and cut her off everytime she spoke and eventually pissed her off so much that she had to see who the new gal was. The 3 gobblers then lost interest in the live hen and started coming to me! Then hen followed and they hung up for a while. My cousin never lost sight of the strutter but I lost all 3 of them for about 15 min. The hen suddenly appeared 20 yards away and popped her head up and saw the decoys and let out a loud series of yelps and cutts that made the 3 toms gobble and they almost blew my hat off!! The hen moved off and the strutter locked on to the dekes and came in to 15 yards spitting and drumming. I shot him and my cousin took another one of the toms running away at 30 yards! A double!!!!
  15. Good luck John! Im heading up to my farm tomorrow for 4 days and cannot wait!!! Good luck to all!
  16. holy moly i cant believe that price! What a rip off...
  17. Roosting a bird is a lot more than just making a turkey gobble before dark. Sure you know he's there, but what tree EXACTLY? Which side did he fly up on? I like to get so close that I can see where he flies up the night before and what limb he is on. Armed with that info you know exactly where he will pitch off the roost. This tactic is deadly during the mating phase when those henned up gobblers wont glance in the direction of your calls. Get in early and quiet, wait for first light and do some tree calling. Flap your hat against your leg to immitate a hen flying down. Get ready.
  18. The guys at the other thread must be all over this too...NOT EVEN CLOSE! I see this all the time with fish pics....its obviously a 15 lb fish but the guys says its 30.....ok
  19. one thing I found works well in big woods if you own the land is to hinge cut trees around your stand. This is a natural browse for deer and the closest thing to baiting you can get in NY big woods.
  20. on the contrary, if he gobbled he's probably looking for hens. When he has them is when he gets tight-lipped.
  21. calling before the season does not educate birds. Read Ray eye's Turkey hunting bible its usually human intrusion that shuts birds down, not calling.
  22. Last season on opening weekend I actually stumbled across a turkey nest with hatched eggs! I could not believe what i saw.
