  1. I've seen vids. Not tried it myself. I just throw a target in the trunk and release into it. I wouldn't worry too much about driving with a cocked crossbow.
  2. It would, but the arrow will still go downwind because the arrow's vector is no longer parallel to its length. In other words the arrow's fletching will be downwind relative to the tip, but the entire thing will still go downwind. I think if you made an arrow with fletching along its entire length and much larger fletching on the back you might find some interesting effects like you allude to, though. Yeah, I think you could get an arrow to shoot up wind with some modifications
  3. Don't take a 50 yard shot in ferocious crosswinds, but I don't worry about it personally. At typical hunting distances I don't really notice cross winds impacting my vertical, and it shoots slower than an xbow.
  4. I never knew that spine impacts speed, though of course now I think of it it must, as a weak spine acts almost like a spring. I can surely see how a weak one would hurt broadhead performance. As the arrow comes off it wiggles a lot and if the first few wiggles are severe that broadhead is going to be planing badly. Maybe another reason I'm back to Rage
  5. Confirmed zero today and ready for the weekend. Centerpoint 370 + Nikon scope + Decimator bolts/arrows is the ticket. Confirmed again today as noticed last season that when i find zero with decimators if I then put the lighted nocks on the back the impact is about 1" left @ 20, so I adjust scope accordingly. Zero at 20 = second reticle around 31 and third reticle around 41. Strap some rage 2 or rage chisel tips on the front and it's a deer harvesting monster for < $400 all-in
  6. Saturday may be a very good day for hunting
  7. Absurd law. And they really disallow semi auto rifles for hunting deer? Why? That speaks of ignorance about how hunting is actually conducted. Do people think with a semi you can now go after a herd of deer--you'd need to be a ridiculous shot to pull that off.
  8. Costanza sausage adds about 50% pork into ground, makes amazing sausages. The only vehicle I've found that anybody in my family can eat 100% venison ground is in chili. The chili I make has I believe no gamey taste whatsoever. We're all so used to cow if any of us taste gaminess it's almost impossible to eat it. All the various cuts, etc. we have no problem with, but it's always a crock pot recipe.
  9. I've tried it a bit but not with the right gear. I'm thinking a go pro on one of the long swivel arms is probably the way to go? Maybe two ideally because it's not always easy to know where the deer will go. A good head mounted rig would work well but I haven't seen one suitable for hunting....weapon-mounted video systems suck due to vibration.

    Warm gear

Battery powered clothing offers tons of potential. The problem is from what I can tell it ALL sucks. I have yet to find a set of battery powered socks, gloves, jacket that don't have a disproportionate amount of negative reviews.

    Warm gear

The single best thing I've found to keep overall body heat in is overalls. The way they wrap up the back cutting wind getting in below the jacket is killer.
  12. Forget powerbelts, you just got lucky they ever worked that well :). The sabots are the way to go. I do very well with 777 pellets (1-2" group @ 100 with CVA wolf and shockwaves).
  13. IMO you "know" when an arrow is released if it was good or not. You can still miss, but if you ranged it, and you used the right pin as you did, unless you were shooting at a really awkward position, you know the instant you release whether it was released well or not. To have it go so wildly off course by a couple of feet or more hints at some mechanical issue to me. Could just be supremely bad luck that it happened then.
  14. They are a must on my compound. I think I use nocturnals also. My xbow I use whichever ones came on the lighted decimator "bolts". However, dicks/field stream is now selling a new variant of lighted decimator arrows and they are GARBAGE. The nocks do not work! They have a stupid little plastic sleeve so that they can be turned on with the finger, which is great, except they no longer turn on when fired. I bought three a few weeks ago. Total trash.
  15. Only deer I've ever just clean missed with a range finder I shot over its back also. I believe it was because part of my bow string was touching the bottom of my stand, but not sure even to this day. Last week at 20 yards I was practicing and missed my target by an entire foot. As I released the arrow was good so I was expecting a good hit. I was like honestly wth just happened, this never happens to me. I shot a few more arrows. All on the money. I suspect it must have been sitting improperly in my whisker biscuit. I can't explain it any other way. I must have just lazily nocked it. Is there a chance that while you were fidgeting and waiting for 20 minutes your arrow got dislodged a bit?
  16. I was literally just about to post this! For the first time ever I did get a pass through. The lighted nock was somehow still showing as it ran off initially, but near the ground was a non-broken arrow, the nock a few feet away, and a terrible hole on front and back. I did up my poundage to 70 lbs a couple of weeks ago and used a Rage 2. The entry hole was huge, the exit was, too.
  17. Finally. Came in just out of range then wandered off a bit so I tried calling back with fawn call. Couple min later it wanders in closer. 20 yards. Biggest doe I’ve gotten yet. .
  18. Ah screw it. I'll go out again. I went to the range today to run some arrows through and make sure I was still good. Give it a final push before xbow next weekend.
  19. Can’t decide if I should do this afternoon. Been raining overnight and most of the day. Wind will be 20 but it won’t be raining later this afternoon. Not sure if deer will start moving with rain stopped or wait till night. This is probably last sit of bow so I guess I ought to.
  20. Crap just realized this may be it for archery. Rain tomorrow. Xbow next sat will fix my drought. Activity has gotten worse every week out here.
  21. Two deer just confirmed it: until the guy next door cuts his corn a lot of deer will keep using it as cover. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Seeing very little but squirrels. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
