Looks like me when I drive our little Pontiac vibe, I have thrown them on the roof rack. Over the past few years, if any of you travel rt.14 from Geneva area to Watkins and saw a little red hatchback with a buck on top it was probably me. I have a truck but usually when I drive home to my parents we take the more economical option and I usually end up shooting something. Whenever we drive the truck I don't see anything worth shooting.

I have been listening to this one guy shooting his gun every night for the last 3 days from about 3:30 to sunset. Not that I'm complaining but if he is hunting that area come opening day I say good luck with all the shooting he has been doing and to boot at the best time to be in the woods. Neighboring property I hunt down here had a bunch of guys out walking around cutting stuff with the chainsaws. I try to do all this during the summer months to keep deer habits from changing and allow deer time to adjust.

Lots of dead deer on the highway from Steuben county to Chemung, I believe they are chasing full bore now.

Full sneak needs ears all the way back pinned down. I have 4 mounts, semi sneak straight, upright aggressive right, upright with chinned tucked, and straight upright. The Upright with his chin tucked down was a custom job had the head removed chin tucked down ears pinned against his neck and just looks completely pissed off I like this mount the most. The others look great and the only one with the ears forward is the 161" 10 in semi sneak he looks giant no matter what direction you look at him. I don't have any pictures of the Upright straight. Just for a little size reference the arrows in one picture are 28.5" Semi Sneak: Upright with chin tucked (also has a side angle of the semi sneak): Upright aggressive right:

Wow I'm surprised by the 50/50 split. I do miss the Monday opener, I had fun skipping class for opening day with my dad and grandfather. I was thinking the other day how my son would have felt if it was a Monday opener and he was able to come out with his old dad for a chance at a deer.

Thanks guys, the problem is that the pieces of land with houses is that most are junk and the bank won't finance them for the money they are asking because most banks don't take the land into account. That makes the buyer front more money (10%-20%) of the total worth. I'm not against that but the land I have been looking at is around $70k for a decent amount. I was thinking of owner financing with a down payment but I have seen and heard some horror stories. I have looked into the farm credit east I think I will get into contact with them again. The wife and I grew up in Wayne county where land was somewhat cheap and flat. It is tough finding flat land or stuff that isn't shear cliffs in the area we want. The local credit unions would finance with 35% down so we might end up going that route if we find something we like. The other thing is we want to eventually build on this property.

So my wife and I are looking into buying land. I know a few of you have bought land in the last year and was wondering what the deal was if you paid cash or financed it? My wife and I don't have $75k just laying around so I am a little more interested in those that have financed and the ropes you had to jump through bank and purchase offer wise. This is going to be on the southern border of NY unfortunately and people think that fracking is still going to happen so some expect to get $3000+ an acre. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think you are on track with 3 1/2 or 4 1/2 it's tough to tell without a side profile. I would say 3 1/2 for my area (8F).

Me too but I think it will only take one shot before I start to flinch. I thought a 12ga. 3" sabot thru an 870 hurt a little.

weather for Sunday of the southern opener is looking good

I think it was 2009 or 2008 I'll have to look at some of my older photos. I know in 2013 we had about 8" of snow around thanksgiving, that was in 8F. That was the same year we had the monsoon rain for opening weekend. -
Use the nikon spot on app/website to get an idea. You don't need a nikon scope to get an idea. If you zero at 100 yards with a 130gr. bullet going from 3000-3500 fps below is a ballpark for the amount of drop. 200 yard zero will have you just putting the crosshairs on biler room and pulling the trigger. Here is 100 yard zero: 0 yards +1" 100 yards +0 200 yards -2.29" 300 yards -8.40" 400 yards -18.96" Here is the 200 yard zero: 0 yards +2.00" 100 yards +1.13" 200 yards +0.00" 300 yards -4.89" 400 yards -14.10"

I think one of those plastic sleds would make it a lot easier. I would also remove the legs from the knuckle down and obviously all guts. Homedepot has what they call a deer drag sled I think that is what I would use. It would be a lot easier to drag the plastic across the twigs, leaves braches, ect than the deer flopping getting caught on everything under the sun. Also if the rack was large enough I would drag it out but first to keep the rack from catching on stuff. Just an idea tho. I used one of those metal carts and they are nice if you don't have brush or uneven ground with steep hills. With a sled I would be tempted to slide it down the hill in front of me so I don't get taken out by a runaway deer of course a downhill drag is a lot easier than up hill. http://www.homedepot.com/p/65-in-Deer-Drag-Sled-in-Olive-90057/204693847?cm_mmc=Shopping|THD|G|0|G-BASE-PLA-D28I-InsideGardenOther|&gclid=CjwKEAiAgavBBRCA7ZbggrLSkUcSJACWDexAZNQGm4-sZo1Gw90EvWwFmFCQXKsUnn-muOULHM_SKBoCOODw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

How Early Before Sunrise Do You Get In Your Stand?
chas0218 replied to buffalojay83's topic in Bow Hunting
About 15 minutes with bow, when gun hunting I like to walk in at first light. A lot of times I jump deer on my way to my stand so during gun I would have a chance at these deer that are 50-100 yards away. -
8Y this past weekend I saw more chasing than I have so far this season. I think the rut is coming with this 2nd moon cycle instead of the first like a lot of people were predicting including myself. This weekend will be a good weekend to be in the woods, hoping the bucks I have passed make it thru the season! Looking forward to the gun opener good luck to everyone stepping into the woods this weekend!

Then leave, I'm sure we can get enough people to pitch in and buy a 1 way ticket to Mexico or Canada via your choice of transportation. Your way of thinking is what is wrong with these protesters. You didn't get your way do you're going to throw a fit. My son is almost 2 and behaves better than these protestors you condone. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk -
I'm willing to bet your broadhead didn't even pierce the chest cavity. My father in law had the same thing happen with a hammerhead 3 blade back in the day. He was shooting 31" aluminum shafts with 125 gr. head. Tons of Kinect energy and same thing happened just a little less breakage on the shaft. The insert completely ripped out and split the shaft slightly. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

Can you put one of those rubber thumper heads on the bolt? I know they sell them for bows. If you just carried a bolt with that on it it wouldn't bury into the dirt.

Gun Control Ballot Initiatives
chas0218 replied to Uptown Redneck's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
What is shocking all of those laws are already in effect in NY other than the California ammo background check and the Washington one. Which in NY is not required but is "suggested practice" by the state. I don't think any store I have bought ammo has checked my background. One time at field and stream they entered my date of birth from my ID, either that or it was my Driver license number. Either way I didn't like it and haven't bought ammo from them since. -
Blown up it looks like his head is bleeding. Fighting a little bit by the looks of it.

Not an option for my wife and I. She and I are both school teachers so it would be possible but the money she makes outweighs the impact the public school system could have on my son. -

Looks like if you have a Trump sticker on your vehicle it might be a good time to remove it. I'm not afraid of confrontation but I like my vehicle the way it is, like with tires inflated and all the windows intact. If that were me I would have locked my doors and had my pistol cocked, locked, and ready to rock although that was Chicago where you can't carry a pistol. If someone breaks my window to get at me the next thing they hear is the sound of a gun shot in their face. I'm sorry but I will not go down without a fight, I will protect myself and my family at all costs.
