Thanks, but no I can't guess distances past 30, I know a kid that is trying out for the USA team he has done very well at 3D unknown distances. There are a lot of guys out there that can shoot 50-60 yards and 1" groups. Like I said I need to know the distance I over estimate when in the stand, on the ground I'm a touch better. I'm not sure why you guys get so offensive when people post up the distances they can shoot and how well. If you want look at the single cold shots in the other thread mine at 40 and 50 both were touching the bottom of a 1" black dot on my block target. I shot the 40 and then shot the 50. I guess these guys should be doing the Olympics.

I have to say your 6 looks at least 2 years older but maybe like people some age more gracefully. I have 2 10 pointers on my wall shot 7 years apart. The bigger one (160") has a smaller head with much less gray in the face giving it a look of a younger deer but aged at 5.5 yrs. The 131" 10 point looks a lot older but aged at 5.5 yrs. as well. The deer were shot on the same piece of property and both with a completely different looking racks. Here is my contribution to the topic.. 85" 6 point I shot last year. Not nearly as nice as the ones posted but big bodied! I'm not long arming him.

One way or the other the meat has to get processed
chas0218 replied to Rockspek's topic in Deer Processing
Once you learn how to process a deer you can make your own cuts out of larger piece from different animals. I buy those big Sam's club/BJs pork loins and cut my pork chops and roast myself. Along with pork butt/shoulder for roasts. It is MUCH cheaper doing it this way and you can cut them as thick or thin you want. I like processing my deer knowing that I can do those kind of things myself. Soon I will have chickens that I will be butchering, nothing like organic chickens and eggs for a fraction of the cost. Organic grass fed beef in the store is around $10/lbs. taking your organic grass fed deer to the butch drives cost/lbs. up. My family eats only venison as a red meat except at restaurants because they don't sell game meats. It saves us a lot of money by not buying beef products at the store and is much healthier. -
I must have missed it was an older gun...not sure how I did. You know anyone that reloads? Have someone reload you some hunting rounds or buy yourself a setup. It isn't too hard and I consider it fun to be able to experiment with bullets you can't buy over of the counter. Did you have intentions of using this for hunting? I was thinking if you shoot a lighter bullet you might be okay but I don't own one.

If it is 30-06 why can't you use soft point 30-06 rounds?

Is this with the cadaver tissue you're talking? I know they do repairs with that now. I think the stuff you're talking about is they place it between the tear and the mucsle/tendon regrows through it or something.

That shot sucks! I know it hurts but if you massage the injection site after it was given every couple hours and continue to do so the pain will only last for 1 or 2 days. I always get shots in my left arm being right handed.

You can use the tax map GIS for your county and get this nice outline of your property with a google earth overlay. I have noticed it can be off slightly but still is nice to see boundaries.

Fixed.

I shot at a deer one year hit a branch and hit the one behind it and to the right. It was on the ground flopping so I got down and from 10 feet shot it in the head with my .40 pistol. probably the most disgusting thing I have saw, from there on out I just put one at the base of the skull where it meets the spine. I wouldn't take a head shot with my rifle I wouldn't want my son to see it not to mention taking a picture with a deer and half its head is missing doesn't make for the nicest picture.

By far the best answer in this thread, we can mark this problem solved. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

My question is did he use the same amount of powder used in the 60gr. .223 load to get comparative results or the 22-250 load with the same grain bullet? In the latter case, using the amount of expansion and penetration for his argument is pointless if the velocity of the 22-250 is whistling any faster than the .223 round would be. Either way I want to know his answer. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

I just buy enough to use with my practice and my hunting arrows. Once the batteries are shot in the hunting arrows I just us the old dead ones for practice. I also haven't noticed a difference in POI with or without the lighted nocks. Changing your GPI will throw off your shots. That higher GPI is going to be a stiffer arrow and could cause it to fly differently causing POI to change. You're better off throwing a couple down range with the nock then a couple without and see if it makes a difference.

I'm definitely going to be looking into one of these. That 300BO round would be a great for any kid and would do a number on any type of predator.

I like this idea! Maybe Uptown RN would like to come take them for me?

Wow have you read any of my posts? I mentioned I don't want to kill anyone's pets I'm talking feral cats and I still don't want to kill them. What do you mean I would whine about violating my opportunity to hunt and how does that pertain to the issue at hand? All I did was bring to light the laws pertaining to dogs and cats. The issue of dogs running deer and stray cats seems to come up every year. I thought people would like to see in black and white how the law reads pertaining to the subject. I do not hunt for sport so I'm not sure where you got that from. I eat everything I kill, hence me not wanting to kill the feral cats in my neighborhood. If you are referring to the deer I have posted over the few years I have been a member they were all taken on my familys property in NY that has been owned for 3 generations and hopefully many more to come. Do I like the challenge of trying to get that one deer? You bet I do, but hunting for sport is not my cup of tea.

I'm also on that regimen!

I agree, I posted this as a way to get other peoples opinion on the subject and see how they would approach this. It is a shame no one would step in to take care of the problem. It isn't fair to the animals to live like this or the people in the neighborhood that have to deal with the crap and dead birds laying around.

On a more serious manly question - fireplace question
chas0218 replied to moog5050's topic in General Chit Chat
I third or was it fifth the thermocoupler. They are cheap and come off easily with an open end wrench. Take it to any plumbing/HVAC place and they should have one in stock that will work. Not sure if you are in the webster area or not but there has to be a place in rochester that deals with that stuff. -
This could also be if you put down too much human scent they got spooked from it. I doubt urine was the problem or at fault. I have done it for a few years and haven't had any bad effects from it. I didn't bring in anymore deer but also didn't scare them all off.

Let it go, scrape or not. The hardest thing is trying to be quiet, when it falls 20' onto the leaves it is loud or seems it.

They sell the compact with a 20" barrel and $50 less. I am definitely intrigued by this, seems to be similar to the old NEF firearms. Do they offer rifle sights? H&R sells their "handi rifle" in 300 AAC blackout. I know my next long gun purchase!

I don't see where that bag is any better or worse than a fanny pack...

5 pins 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 If I wanted I could get rid of the 30 and 50 and just rest the pin lower yardage pin on the top of the back but I like to see the pin on the area I want to hit. So in theory I could do 20, 40, and 60 yard pins

I understand the small game, but isn't the law basically giving the person permission to kill the cat if the above requirement is met? In other words the right? Then the last section of "no action or damages lie against any authorized person". Firearm wise it is legal for me to use a pellet gun within my town limits. Once again I'm not looking to kill the cats but I could based on the law one could. The bird house thing I would imagine warrant it being they are "hunting" song birds.
