You know that you can legally carry 10 rounds in NY now right?
-
I do like my .380 to hide in my kid's diaper bag. With all the crap my wife stashes in there the .380 takes up the least amount of room and keeps her from complaining.

.380 for deep concealment 9mm for fall/winter/spring carry. I have 9mm (Smith and Wesson SD9VE) and .40cal (Glock 23) I carry either one on a regular basis. My .380 (Smith and Wesson Bodyguard no laser) is my summer carry when I wear only a light shirt and shorts. It is difficult for me to CC my 9mm or .40cal during the summer months. If I wore pants and a looser fitting long tail shirt during the summer I could probably easily carry my 9mm or .40cal. Kick of each gun is based on the load. 9mm with 147gr. JHP kicks more than my 40cal. 150gr. JHP My .380 in any round kicks as much as a standard 115gr. 9mm round. Price wise I would not be afraid of a 9mm S&W sdve in 9 or 40. Here is what I paid for my guns. Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .380 No laser - $325 Smith & Wesson SD9VE - $279.99 Glock 23 - $570.00 The SD9VE is basically the same as a glock but stainless upper and barrel. It works in the same way but cheaper and trigger isn't as nice. Either way I plan to buy another in .40cal next year. Ammo wise the 9mm is cheapest and easiest to find ammo. 40cal is next then .380. Cheap .380 ammo is non-existent unless you buy junk then it won't cycle no matter what you do trust me I tried.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this in the past but this link will take you to the NYS DEC website with a list of purposed regulations. They also have a way for us to comment on those purposed regulations. If we don't make our voice heard then we can NOT complain about the new regulations. Not sure if this is sticky worthy but it is a list that is updated whenever there are new purposed regulations. Please do NOT comment on regulations start another thread. http://www.dec.ny.gov/regulations/propregulations.html

Here are the press releases for all of 2015, I would recommend looking through if you want to know about various regulation changes. http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/104590.html

Okay so this sums up the webinar presentation. http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/103053.html
-
Well that was a little more clear. Basically they are trying to see if people in the area want deer around or not. They also shared what the aggregates would look like statewide. I am going to try and find the presentation online.

To those admittedly chasing big antlers as priority 1, what if ....
chas0218 replied to moog5050's topic in General Chit Chat
That is the way it is on our property. I would rather see my father, sister, or myself get that one big buck walking around than the guy 2 properties over. During bow season of 2013 I had missed a beautiful 10 point (pictured below) by hitting a branch for a guy 2 properties over to whack him during gun season. Still kicking myself wishing I had trimmed those branches thinking he will just walk right in front of me. He knew something was up but unfortunately he was behind a branch I didn't see until it was too late. -
You and I pretty much wrote the same e-mail especially the phase 3 ideas. Easiest way they could get that antlerless permit would be to change the muzzleloader antlerless to be used in regular season or muzzleloader. I said they should utilize the regular season instead of bow. It would be most logical if they wanted more antlerless deer harvest also I said they could add an antler restriction only for regular season so that guy that shoots a 3" spike would need to re-assess their situation and possibly take that doe he is chasing around. I know many guys that don't use their either sex tag during bow in hopes to fill it with the old smoke pole on that one big guy they were chasing during bow.

Same I bought my lifetime license, well my father and grandfather bought it for me as a Xmas gift 17 years ago. It has paid for itself many times over including the free turkey and DMP's. Also if you get the free DMP's if you want left overs they still won't charge you. Well worth the money for anyone planning on hunting more than 10 years. If you have kids find a way to get them one especially if they show an interest at a young age. My son will get his next year around x-mas, if you buy before they turn 4 you get a big discount.

I did write in but like you said I doubt it will be read.
-
I love how they don't tell you what phase 3 is "ironing out the details." BULL$}{!* they know what they are going to do and will do it they just don't want you to know the alternative. They can give hunters of the state a general idea of what it entails.

I use the back of the last arrow I shot.

I understand the math behind it but they are assuming perfect conditions. They also stated that death by predator accounts for less than 2% of deer deaths. Along with motorists and such, they then said deer are a problem with vehicle to deer accidents. Well if it accounts for less than 2% then why is it a problem.... Doc this is what you are referring to with the insurance companies, they must have some say.

I just purchased some hair bleach/peroxide to make a paste and paint it on. I talked with a few people and they have great results. I bought everything at sally beauty supply in Geneva. The girl was very helpful as her brother does the same thing and knew what I needed and amounts. She said just make a paste like they would for hair and paint it on and let it sit. She wasn't sure how long to leave it on but most people leave it on overnight then rinse and it's all good. Cost me $50 for the big containers but it should do close to 5 deer she said.

Palin hunting for a Vise...
chas0218 replied to growalot's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
You know I was thinking the same thing when I was posting earlier that there are a few candidates that would make great running mates for him. Paul Ryan or Ted Cruz would be great choices on his part. Those current candidates are too wishy washy for me. I like the fact that Trump says what the rest are thinking but because of the lobbyists they can't speak their minds. My father and I were talking about this the other day and Trump seems to have a lot of support from the younger conservatives where the older conservatives prefer Cruz or Ryan. -
Palin hunting for a Vise...

I have to admit he is right, Palin would end his run for the candidacy. He needs someone that would bring those swing votes Palin would bring in some of the women vote but not enough. I can think of others that would be a better fit. Glad to see Palin is backing Trump though. -
Rifle Caliber- Which would you choose?
chas0218 replied to pitweiler's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I do have to say that in the .284 and .30 bullet sizes there are a lot of bullet weights and designs to choose from compared to others. That is what is driving my decision on my next firearm. -
Yeah I listened online through the whole thing and don't know anymore than when I started. I hope the 2nd part is a little more informative. What I did get out of it is they want to change the break-up of the WMU's into aggregates (larger WMUs). I'm not sure who asked the question about it being is counter intuitive to make the WMUs larger but I don't know their reasoning behind it, they responded "no it would make little difference and allow them to more accurately collect data." I always thought it would be more accurate knowing where exactly the harvest came from and the amount of deer taken. Maybe to allow more DMPs in areas they want more deer taken but currently don't give out that many DMPs based on hunter opinions. I just don't know what their reasoning is I mean if it isn't broke don't fix it. Maybe that is what the reason for the pilot study is. See if larger WMUs will fix their deer kill numbers so more deer are killed. Someone also asked a question about insurance companies approaching DEC about lowering deer population numbers and he said in the 17 years (not sure of the exact number now but was in the teens) he worked for DEC he had never been approached by insurance companies nor anyone else he has been in contact with. It was informative about deer but not really anything about the pilot study. What I found interesting are the numbers they came up with in 4 or 6 years 2 deer can become 64 deer. I call B.S. and they should know better not every doe drops 2 doe fawns to 1 buck fawn. I have seen doe on numerous occasions that have dropped 2 bucks. If that were the case we would see a lot more deer in my area with us and my neighbors selectively harvesting mature deer.

Civil War
chas0218 replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
My father just retired army after 35 years of service and he said his battle buddy's would be handing out ammo to the civilians if it got that bad. Under any order he said they would not fire on their own people no matter what the situation. -

Personally I like my .270 and the wife's .243. She killed her first gun deer with the .243 and asked why I didn't buy one for her earlier. My next will probably be a .308 in AR platform obviously ny compliant. -
Oregon Situation
chas0218 replied to mike rossi's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
The way the law reads in the USA is in order for a company, business or person to fight a law a person must first be arrested/accused for said law. They can sign any law they want into the books but until someone is actually arrested and tried for that law there is no way to fight against that law. Take it for what it is worth, there are laws that have never been enforced since they were established but are on the books and could be used. -

I am sure if they are like any other news network they will show any and all statistics that favor the Safe Act. On a side note does anyone else cringe when they type S-A-F-E __A-C-T?
