I am Steuben County.
-
Yeah I have been looking on there but nothing that I really liked. I might have to go with a pedestal mount with a turn to get the look I want
-
I shot a nice wall hanger and am looking for an upright straight mount but head tilted down similar to the "Offset Upright Aggressive" by Ben Mears. I am looking for an upright with the chin tucked down. I want a pissed off look like he is about to start posturing. I thought about full sneak but I don't have room. I have a semi-sneak along with an upright but they aren't the look I want. I am almost thinking I have to go with a pedestal mount. I have an offset upright with left turn and like the way the chin is tucked. This is the offset upright aggressive left turn I have but just want a straight instead.

Bow Leagues in Corning NY or surrounding areas
chas0218 replied to chas0218's topic in General Chit Chat
I would but that is longer than I would like to drive. Trying to stay close to home or work. -
Why are they only including those WMU/parts of those WMU? Is it only because of the grape growers/wineries that want the deer gone? They cut it off in 8F just below where our hunting property is maybe 6 miles as the crow flies.

Take a look at homedepot for one of those plastic sheds, mice/animals don't generally eat through those and will last your lifetime. Not to mention they are cheap and easy to assemble. You can take it apart and move it from your house to your property without much hassle.
-
I would recommend something where it is mostly mice proof. I have seen a lot of machines that have had seats tore up, wires ate through, nests in air boxes. I would highly recommend some sort of shed to keep out the animals. You could make something simple with a hinged roof and door with just enough room for the ATV to keep it out of the elements. Also a Polaris 500 HO or 400 HO are a beast of a machine. My Father-in-law has had a 500 HO that he has beat the crap out of and it just keeps going. I use my Polaris 500 HO ATV for food plot prep (spraying, and ground work) and it does great. I would like to get a side by side at some point I could utilize it much more but for now my ATV does ok.

I have a 20ga. 1187 and is a great gun, my father has 2- 12ga. 1100's and they are also a great gun. Either one is a good gun.

Just wondering if there was a section about shooting leagues? I was thinking about doing them this winter but don't know where to go. I live in the Corning area and wouldn't mind shooting in Elmira, Horseheads, Corning area. I'm not looking for an expert league just something to shoot the crap with some guys and a few beers. I think most leagues started already but I could fill-in (if they allow that kind of stuff). Just throwing out a feeler.

Obama executive order a go.....
chas0218 replied to growalot's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I said he is trying. Never said he has, it is just a matter of time that only military and government officials will be the only one with guns. Well that is if Obama gets his way. -

He has trying to make the no fly list a means of taking away guns. They can put anyone on the no fly list just because basically they "feel" like it. Sorry culvercreek I didn't realize you said the same thing. -

I noticed that in your statement you did realize that Obama is not stopping the flow of illegally obtained guns and is attacking only law abiding citizens. As you and all of us see he isn't thinking logically when making decisions based on the problem. The thing I don't get is how you can support a president or anyone for that matter that is trying to strip you and other law abiding citizens of their rights. Can you agree that law abiding citizens aren't the problem and should not be attacked by these laws or others? Because that is all he is doing. -

A crossbow, but what you described earlier sounded like a gun. -

So a gun? -
You and me both except mine was the 20ga. version. I took a lot of deer with that gun but my .270 is a lot more fun and way cheaper to shoot.

The part I am having trouble with is the field session. Can anyone do the field session or do they have to be certified? I can find online courses but in the link it says ny will not accept an online course.
-
So this might be a dumb question but where would someone sign up for the education course? I saw on the DEC website they have the course offered but when I looked for available courses there wasn't any. I have my bow and hunter education course but I have never saw or heard of a trapper education course. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Obama executive order a go.....

I'm pretty sure most if not all of us following these threads or commenting have made suggestions for solutions. Politicians don't listen to their country they only listen to those contributing most to their campaign or their pocket. Here is a solution: Incarcerate those that break the law and repeat to do so, and keep those that are mentally ill in a hospital and help them instead of stuffing some pills down their throat and assume they are going to keep taking them. You get a choice take the pill or sit in a hospital where you have to be observed. Solution for the money for above mentioned solutions, revoke every politicians paycheck that doesn't uphold the bill of rights and the constitution. There would be a government surplus as of lately. -

There is a Rocky road ahead of us all, hang on! -
Only deer I have taken off my family property were wall hangers. I can tell you where each one was shot and found, the time of day, the day of harvest, and what implement. Unfortunately/fortunately the other properties I hunt there isn't much of a difference of where I sit long as it is within range of 2 major travel corridors. I don't really see a need for a journal on my properties as deer patterns stay constant for the most part. If they do move I move my stand and it will stay there until next year.
-
Last year or maybe the year before in my area (8X, 8T, 8Y) it was trapping only for bobcat. I haven't looked in a few years. Next year I will have to get at it for those critters.
-
Just curious as I have never trapped. Can you dispatch a bobcat with a gun after being trapped? I know you can't hunt them but trapping can you shoot them to dispatch the animal? I know of where there are a few hanging out regularly and would love to get a full body mount of a cat.

Hornady makes a good bullet I tried the ballistic tip 130gr. sst and had more shrapnel than the nosler 130gr. BTBT. Also the nosler were a much tighter group. My MV is around 3300+ fps (3300 was my slowest reading.)
-
I agree, I had a .270 round shrapnel at 60 yards hitting the ridge on the scapula of the shoulder blade. It was because my bullet was going too fast for the yardage. Although I doubt many other bullets would have held up. The base held up but the front ballistic cavity broke apart. 60 yards: 160 Yards same bullet, powder, and powder gr.:
