  1. If anybody else needs ideas for NJ let me know. Way too many bears. Tons of land. Id be glad to help cause we need the population lowered
  2. Kind of funny how 2 recurve hunters on this thread support full inclusion, but some compounders want their level if easy to be the bar. There is a word for that. Maybe I am wrong Steve but I was referring to your assumption as to who shoots what? Your question didn't match quote. Don't understand
  3. Stubby w all due respect, bow has had more time since it's less effecient. Never heard anyone say it was so effecient theyd not let it on they're property cause it did damage. You musta had a bad experience somewhere so you're certainly entitled to your thinking
  4. Firearm bear is In Dec for 6 or more days. Oct this year will be the first bear bowhunt since the 50s or 60s I think but don't quote that. It's gonna run 3 days, than 3 w muzzleloader. Bears are one of easiest animals to kill w bow usually expiring under 40 yards w even 15 yards being common. Not sure why but they die easy. You wanna see spots pm me n I'll show you areas to try. You can even bait if you stay on ground but there's so many you prob wouldn't need to
  5. It's the idea behind a season. We know none of it is primitive. Id be the first guy to raise his hand if it actually went really primitive. It'd be great. Making your own stuff, practicing, woodsmanship. Leave an awful lot of guys going hungry.
  6. Wonder how Steve feels he has any idea what guys use? Assumptions are never good
  7. Let me see I think gunpowder was invented in the 9th century, the crossbow was a couple hundred before but the bow is at least 64,000 years old with arrows found believed 71,000 years old. The bow is the most primitive weapon. None of this matters what matters is the idea behind the seasons. We're sport hunters, in order to make things sporting we make things harder. I understand the mentality of some that all get to play, everyone gets a prize. If that's the way you wanna go n it's legal so be it. I'll never consider it archery though
  8. If you live near North Jersey come here. They're everywhere. I'll even show you a few spots
  9. Guys I don't see the crossbow alone doing much damage even though I dont like em they are limited range. The number of guys who try may increase n that could up the harvest. Bear in mind guys who don't bowhunt may not automatically get within the 20 yards or so. Don't think crossbows alone w decimate herds
  10. Will say this. I've only been on here a bit but this is what's supposed to happen. Everyone has an opinion n no one is beating the other up. Shows brains. Grampy it is a big jump of course. Just playing devils advocate n saying there has to be a line somewhere
  11. So what's wrong w powder burning guns? Let anyone chose their challenge level. I think we shouldn't discriminate. Let em all in. The same weak arguements imo for the crossbow. It's a step up from this, which was a step up from that etc. Supposed to be a "primitive" season. Next step from crossbow is a rifle so let's just skip a step n be done?
  12. Grampy n I totally respect your opinion. What you said is all true. The weapons are similar. Crossbows may start out fast but they lose velocity fast resulting in similarity. There are advantages n disadvantages to them both. Except the fact crossbows require little practice once sighted in the pros/cons of each tool cancel each other to an extent. Remember though they most not be what game commissions all over the country envisioned when setting archery seasons or they'd already be allowed. Seems most states need the "language" changed in order to legalize them. Just like liberals have done changing the "language" w what constitutes marraige, drug use, terroristic threats, racism. It's all in how things are worded. Now granted crossbows aren't a giant leap but imo they are a leap in the wrong direction. I'm by no means fighting against them it's all just my opinion. As stated I respect yours too
  13. Steve they aren't archery equipment no matter how guys twist it imo
  14. Not going to get in a pissing match. 60 is fine, but like I said anyone who actually needs it to hunt should be allowed. Some guys are always gonna cry when someone says anything negative about crossbows not sure if you are or aren't. Outside of those exceptions I'm not for them but if it's a legal tool so be it
  15. I'm by no means support crossbows in any fashion. I do support folks that have no other option. Elderly n disabled should be an easy yes
  16. I have lots of guns n use quite a few but rimfires have always come w me. My shooting club has plates set up just for .22. I have a Belgium browning .22 take down rifle that I still trap w, a Remington bolt action I forget model but it's 30 years old, a savage .22 semi, not my style but reasonably accurate, especially for the plates. My favorites though are a couple Buckmark pistols I have. Can't keep em in safe. Fun guns n they eat everything
  17. It does stink unloading vest, stacking calls, looking to a dedicated gun waiting on spring again. But, Deer season is coming turkeyfeathers. Plus a lot of other good stuff in between. Thank God we do the outdoors, always a next season coming
  18. Bill, You seem to hunt in areas close to my house. I'm a construction worker so I'm certified w a tape measure I can meet you n measure to vouch for you? Won't be official but I can take pic of Spurs n post it for you? Hope that helps
  19. Rob I'm not sure what you're getting at? I'm bashing no one. I'm only voicing an opinion n stated people can have theirs n be proud of that. Now I try n be considerate, measure my words etc but I am a man so I'm asking you to be respectful.
  20. About what I mentioned, cept the wife thing I'm divorced. We did fish a lot n she even turkey hunted w me. My kids are teenagers n busy some weekends so I'll be helping the girl I mentor (Saige) get ready to kill her first deer. We came close last fall. When they aren't busy, shooting, fishing, hiking, picking berries. I generally take a friends of theirs and that friends family with us to shoot a little in summer. Brings new folks in that'll never be against us later on. And of course my own family I'm also an archery instructor n gonna be teaching kids and women's classes every weekend my kids aren't around plus I teach hunter ed. Of course a bunch of 3D with my kids, Saige n myself.
  21. I'm out of the game in NY but I've got a 629 performance center gun Id use of I was a resident. Off bags it stays in 6" group with no prob at 50 yards w no practice. Nice gun
  22. Season I over now what? How bout introducing some new folks to the outdoors? Take your youngster bream fishing, maybe your wife to catch some bass, be the guide n keep it fun w both. Leave your gear home the first couple times n concentrate on the newbies. How bout taking your teenager n his/her friends bow fishing or a 3D shoot? All great memories n better than sucking up ac n TV til the fall
  23. I agree w Larry reloading is the way to go, especially w tougher to find loads. Years ago we went through a new round craze. I didn't buy into any of it for this exact reason. The manufactures don't care about us. All the shorts, super shorts, ultras are not easy rounds to find. The manufacturers left lots of guys w semi useless guns people can't find ammo for
