Deer are very tough and resilient animals but unfortunately there isn't much you can do. If it makes you feel any better, there are a lot less casualties with and arrow than a bullet. The arrow may work its way out when it hits branches and such and the wound should heal. Sorry if I couldn't be more positive in my assessment here but other may be able to offer more.

My experience this year. At a local hunting area I bring my buck there to see if the DEC can age him. He glances at the buck and says probably 3.5. Next question he had is "Can I see your license?". The deer had the carcass tag on the antlers and he asks me for my license? Then he asks me if i reported it through DECALS (which I did that night) and I told him I have 7 days to report it. The scummer checked in to see if I had reported it. I went there for information, legal, and in good faith only to be treated like I did something illegal. Suffice it to say I left annoyed at how they treated me. Lost respect for them for sure.

My wife had it for 1 year before she was diagnosed. Practically crippled her at 40 y/o and couldn't do nothing for herself...even opening a bottle of water was a chore. Terribly illness that I witnessed first hand and I probably brought the tick in as she doesn't go near the woods. She's really good now and pain free for 6 or 7 years but does get flare ups occasionally. Be very vigilant checking yourself. The buck I got over the weekend was loaded beyond belief.

Touchy subject. I know of some friends whose family members (who don't hunt) get licensed and the person who gets the additional deer tag it on their tag. It's only 1 buck with the bow and one with the gun and as many DMP's (doe permits) you have gun or bow.

+1 That was my point above. If I come across someones gear I wouldn't consider it "up for grabs". Awful the guys gear was taken.

Thanks to some member advice regarding the use of deer decoys, I successfully harvested this buck this afternoon who showed up to fight my buck decoy. He came in sideways ready to bust it up but never made it. Cake shot at 15 yards dressed 165. Very happy and thanks to the forum members !!

Grow..... Thank you thank you thank you. I put the buck decoy out as you suggested and you'll never guess what happened. The big 8 I was after came in to fight it and never made it !!! I'm blown away at the events this afternoon. I have used the decoy in the past but never killed one over it.
