I see people recommending this service pretty often I can't believe nobody here has ever called
-
How long for them to reply. Left them a message now I'm impatiently waiting
-
I never even gave that a thought. Definitely a possibility that I will look into.
-
That's actually where I was thinking I may have hit. I wasn't sure if it was better to push it to bleed it out and not let it bed down and clot up or if it was better to let it bed down and not run any further. I've kind of done both at this point.
-
I'm going to go back out again tonight after sundown and look some more. When I shot I was confident it was a good hit but now I'm really second guessing and keep replaying the shot in my head. The only possibilities I can think of are heart or muscle/brisket. Can't believe my arrow isn't right there if I didn't hit anything solid but can't believe a heart shot deer could go that far and still be alive that much later.
-
No hair where it was shot. A few pieces in the blood drops, some white some brown. Watched the arrow hit, no possibility of gut shot. But can't find arrow either

Got a broadside shot on a calm doe just after 9 am around 25 yards. Looked a little low, thought possibly heart. Waited a little over an hour before climbing down and looking for blood and found some right where deer was standing and a good trail with big puddles everywhere she stopped. After a couple hundred yards I bumped a deer from some real thick brush but couldn't ever get a good view of it. She looked to have veered to my right just as she disappeared. In the brush pile I found a bed with tons of blood, some already dry and a short but good blood trail going to the left that abruptly ended in a puddle of blood with nothing after in any direction. I bumped this deer more than 2 and a half hours after the shot. I'm thinking maybe I ended up low and just hit muscle but nothing vital. Couldn't find my arrow. She trotted at the shot with her tail down. Just looking for some opinions from some better trackers. The bed was 40 yards from posted property and that's the way the spooked deer went.

For all the guys that hunt a long distance from your vehicle or camp, how do you get all your gear and a deer back? Some of the places I'm currently looking to hunt are a mile or more from any road and the terrain is fairly steep and rugged with nearly no trails and motor vehicles are not allowed. This seems too far to take all my gear back to the car after I get something then return, packing it out seems like more time and mess than I care for in the field but dragging a deer while trying to also carry a climber or pack and a gun or bow seems about impossible. How in the world do you guys do it?

He's someone I talk to once or twice a year maybe. Not someone I really felt comfortable with confronting with such an accusation but not a complete stranger either. My biggest WHAT IF was what if I told him about it then he did it again. If I turned him in after that he would know it was me.
-
I really thought about talking to him directly and held off a couple days before making a decision. In the end I didn't want to accuse him of anything and cause a problem so I figured if he didn't really do anything wrong then he could easily explain it to the proper authorities. I really never thought I'd be in a situation where I'd have to make that call for someone I know.

Here's the scenario I was recently in. A friend posted a picture of a buck he had taken at the beginning of this archery season and admitted he had taken it. Last week he posted a picture of himself with another bigger buck and implied but didn't admit to taking the second. In the past it always seemed like he kills more antlerless deer than can be legally possible since dmps have required preference points for years in our area. So I did make the tough decision to tip off the dec of a possible violation and why I had reason to believe so. The officer called me today and said the guy did flip and admitted to shooting both bucks as well as an additional admission to baiting them. So in fact both deer ended up being illegal. Am I an a-hole?
-
Has anyone here ever turned in a "friend" for game violations. I know it depends on the violation and everything so I'm not asking if you would but rather if you ever actually have and what the circumstances were.

Gumoflage. One of the many things I couldn't believe ever made it to the shelves

There are quite a few options online as to style. I see some are like a half dome kind of thing, some look like standard umbrellas and others are flat looking roofs. I'm looking for something relatively easy to set up and take down so I don't have to leave it out. Biggest concern is still just being seen at ground level if I decide not to hunt in a treestand. I'd rather be wet than spook everything that comes in.
-
I didn't see any actual treestand umbrellas at the local chain stores. There is a small local outdoor store that I may check. I just want to make sure whatever I use doesn't draw more attention to my position.
-
Since it's supposed to be pretty wet this weekend I was thinking about rigging up a golf umbrella to strap onto the tree above me. Just curious if anybody has ever tried this and if it has been a problem or not. Sometimes I'll hunt from the ground rather than a stand and not sure if the black umbrella will stand out like a sore thumb at ground level or not. I'd like to stay dry but also don't want to draw any more attention to myself. Maybe I could paint it camo? Open to any other suggestions or ideas to stay dry.

Just wondering how everyone keeps their gear organized in a pack. I try to group similar items together in zip lock bags and then put them in a single compartment pack with the items I use most on top. One zip lock will contain my "after the shot" gear such as drag, butt out tool, and knife which will be at the bottom of my gear. I also have first aid/emergency bag and a few others but sometimes this seems like a poor way to organize things. Looking to see what some of you other guys do as far as storage. I've also heard some people vacuum seal some gear as opposed to the zip locks. So, what's in your pack?

Hunting in pa I do seem to see more and bigger bucks than I did in the past. But there also isn't near the deer herd that there was years ago. Ars began around the same time the state went with a concurrent buck/doe season and a liberal amount of doe tags. I really don't think the ars made as big of a difference as reducing the population and creating a healthier, younger forest for the smaller population. At least that's how it seems in my area. I personally don't think the restrictions helped any but sure made identifying a legal buck more difficult.

I know it's not the season but deer seem to be on my mind most of the year. Anyway I can't find any handgun posts on here. How many fellow handgun hunters do we have out there and what's your hand cannon of choice. Mines a Smith model 57 in the 41 mag.
