Did you loose your last spot? Do you have references?

No. I used to hunt with my uncles upstate but the 5 1/2 hr drive was a little too much. And more than that I grew tired of being the referee to my uncles bickering, lol. As far as references are concerned not sure who i can offer. But I'm a father of 1 that's been hunting since I was 16. And there aren't many more people that are more environmentally conscious and respectfully of the land than I am.

what type of small game do they have at otis pike?   Do they release pheasant there?    A lot of pressure?

its a little bit if a tripnfrom me but im always open to trying out worthwhile spots

they release birds every week during the season. But it doesn't matter because there are so many idiots hunting there. I truly mean it. I once had someone shoot towards the road (Hello!) and hit the side of my truck. Chased that SOB but never caught him/her. To get on there in the woods I guess its ok but don think of going on the weekend.

IMG_0894.JPGOtis last year I put my friend on his first bow buck

Nice buck. I've hunted Otis but unfortunately never successful. Not crazy about the whole check in there. And way too many people. And lots of people who shouldn't be hunting (when it comes to small game).

New York is 250 miles wide, you should say where you are ^_^ I've seen a lot of threads like this (I even started one). Hopefully you have better luck than most thread starters. But, assuming you don't, if you say where you are at least people can point you toward public land if necessary. Depending on where you are in the state there are some parts of public land with very little pressure.

I live in Suffolk County (Long Island). Looking to hunt deer anywhere upstate (less than 5 hr drive)

Man I am blown away by the amount of people interested in this! I have to say it's motivating as all hell. The heartwarming stories everyone has shared I can completely relate to and I thank you all again.  Now as far as the group is concerned we are going to need a good name for the club.  To be fair for as many guys on here as possible due to the enormous size of NY we may have to break it up to a northern southern zone chapter with meet ups etc..  If anyone is interested in meeting up this weekend I will be going to ridge rifle range this weekend on sat to sight in my 30 06.  Anyone local or willing to meet up are welcome! I am probably going to bring my bow and do a little shooting on the archery range as well for the bow hunters!  We should discuss mass scouting operations as well for public/private lands as well. Also absolutely any type of hunting is allowed and strongly encouraged! Waterfowl large/small game are all welcome! So bring it on! The goal here is to spread as much knowledge of the sport as possible and a combined effort to get em leaking! Feel free to pm me if you are going to be able to meet up this weekend if not there will be plenty more to come! God bless and good luck!

Hey I live in Northport as well! Don't need Brookhaven. I shoot in my backyard.

  7. Looking for a deer hunting spot this year. Anyone looking for an experienced and safe hunting partner let me know. I've used my rifle/shotgun but would like to get back into using the bow. I also do quite a bit of pheasant/quail hunting with my dog.

Willing to help out with land if need be.

    talk soon,

    Carm
