Maine bear hunting can be very tricky.They just don't have the big bears everyone wants to hunt.If you kill a 200+ bear your lucky most are between 100 & 150 lbs. i'd talk to the outfitter and if he tells you 300lbs is common move on.An honest outfitter will tell you the truth between 100 & 150 lbs with a few big one every now and then. Here's something interesting there's four does that cut through my yard.On more then one occasion I've seen the older doe walk over to a tree the local dogs use then across to the telephone pole and sniff both.

Some scrapes say open all year there like a firehidegrin to dogs.Like treeguy said the doe will come into estrus every 28 days until she's bred.There's a post on here from last week of breeding going on.

Deer rub in the post rut and make scrapes year round.

There a distraction and safety issue.

Plenty of squirrels here on long island.I haven't hunted rocky point in years but no one really targets squirrels around here. I've been bouncing around the idea of picking up a pellet gun and going. I can double limit out in my backyard lol Plus there's always a chance of picking off a left over pheasant.My older brother used to see them on rocky point rd. all the time when he leaved here. good luck

anyone reload with powder coated bullets in a rifle? I've been using cast lead bullets in my 3030 for practice shooting.I'm getting to the end of a box and needed to order more when i came across the pc bullets.It seem the pistol guys love them,but not much is said from rifle shooters.I'm not having any leading problem that a little elbow grease can't take care of,but if i can eliminate it for a few buck more why not. one week turkey hunt/fishing trip.I'm going to hunt the opening week this year normally i like the second week better,but last season it seem early. one week muzzleloader into a week of rifle. This will be my first two week vacation in 10yrs so i'm really looking forward to.

Funny this popped up i just finished reading BPI's slug loading manual last nite. I'm still bouncing the idea around. Your right sabots are to damn expensive.

you'll be hooked when the first one rushes in on you. i haven't gotten one yet but had them rush in and out. My problem is i always look to far out in the woods and there always up close less then 50yds. I've been carrying the shotgun in tight spots it's good out to 40yrds with #4 buckshot .I'd try a bird distress call also a simple feather tied on a stick to distract them for a few seconds. good luck!!
