Hillary lost and I bought a new gun. This was a good day.

Ding, Dong...the Witch is dead, the Witch is dead, the Witch is dead. Ding, Dong, the Wicked Witch is Dead!!!

I don't reload so what factory ammo are you feeding your .308 bolt guns? I just picked up a Tikka T3x and need to get this ready for the 19th. Figure my expected shooting lanes will be 50 to 150 yards.

No, it's because of the piss-poor voter turnout throughout the rest of the state. Look at the abysmal number of votes cast for Cuomo/Astorino. Andy is a corrupt, job-killing disaster of a Governor who also ram-rodded un-SAFE down our throats and yet NY gun owners STILL couldn't be bothered to go vote his ass out. Pathetic. Trump sure didn't do us any favors either, but that's a whole 'nother mess.

I don't think it's the scope at all. In fact, the glass is very crisp and it's a nice compact size. Zero regrets with the purchase. If my sportsmen's club wasn't used as a polling place, I would have been able to figure this out today. I'm certain that I can rule out anticipation. The scope is so clear that it's easy to see me keeping the cross-hairs on target. Based on the responses so far (and Thank You very much for them!), my best guess is that I have been cocking the string off-center. Chalk that right up to me being a total n00b with a crossbow! Got a nice chuckle out of Padre's reply though. Lol. Man, if I had a dollar for every time I misread something...

For those who voted T3x in .308, what does your rifle like for ammo? I just bought one and need to get a couple boxes for zeroing at the range and of course hunting. TIA

Just vote. This is a right far too many Americans take for granted. In New York, we let NYC pick our current Governor because the rest of state essentially stayed home. We are better than this.

I am new to crossbows and didn't even realize this was a factor. It wouldn't surprise me if this was the culprit right here. Thanks for the insights!

Good point. I'll try a group before adjusting. As for the bolts, they were brand new.

Frustrating night trying to zero a new Nikon Bolt NR on my Barnett Jackal. Using Leopold 1"" rings and have the scope tightened down. Shooting seated off a table in an indoor range and using a rolled up fleece jacket for a rest. The glass is very clear and I can hold the crosshairs on the "X" at 20 yards with minimal movement. Now the fun began. First shot high and right at 1o'clock. Adjust knows and put the next shot 4" left and 4" too high. Adjust again and the 3rd shot is barely under the 2nd. Adjust again and 4th shot is barely under the 3rd. Mind you, I move the knob 6 clicks to push the poi right and the shot barely budged. Huh? This dance continues over another 10 shots. I am waxing the strings and lubing the rails about every 5 shots, as suggested by Barnett. After FINALLY knocking one in just a touch under the "X" I am feeling very relieved! And then...the very next shot, with zero adjustments, flies wide left about 7" at 9 o'clock. I give up. When in the heck am I doing wrong?

Who will be on the crossbow bandwagon tomorrow morning?
Jdubs replied to ApexerER's topic in CrossBow Hunting
First time xbow for me and I'm excited to get back in a tree! I work this weekend, but hope to get a late pm sit on Sunday. Otherwise, I'll be out a few days during the week. I didn't save up all those sick and vacation days for nuttin! -
Hearing how the Bolt NR made your stock scope look like a kiddie toy helped me off the fence. I bought the same scope tonight and will have it zeroed by Sunday. Thanks man.

Tried it for the first time last year and was instantly hooked on night hunting. The woods just come alive with all kinds of critters! Although I didn't bag a yote and missed chances on a couple of grey foxes, those dudes better watch out this time because I learned from my mistakes.
-
Man, I have been twisting over the exact same thing! Can I ask where you picked up your Nikon Bolt NR?
-
Awesome. Looks like you're in the right spot!

Thanks tf. New guy here and I definitely couldn't pass up a thread on beer!! Give me another week and I hope to add some fresh deer harvest pics...with beer.

First time crossbow and I will be using a Barnett Jackal for deer hunting. What's the general concensus on the included scope: Use it or Lose it? I would hate to make a bad shot on a deer because the optic didn't put the bolt where I aimed it.

My favorite brew: Ommegang Barrel-Aged Three Philosophers. Goes down real smooth by a fire.

Holy Racker! Thanks for sharing and best of luck hunting that stud.

More daylight action than nighttime action 10/26/16

Couple of vids from the ridgeline. I noticed the doe was being very affectionate with her button buck. They appeared multiple times and always stayed close; probably not my first choices for filling tags. MFDC1490.AVI MFDC1508.AVI -
More daylight action than nighttime action 10/26/16

When I was hunting for predators early this year, I noticed a number of tracks in the snow (what little we had) at the ridgeline where the Moultrie cam is hung. Your guess is as good as mine why everything likes to travel through there, but yes there are plenty of acorns on the ground. I'm pretty stoked to see all the deer activity on cam this time! -
Only have 3 cams up in the area I hunt out back and one looks to be on a prime animal highway. Plenty of daylight pics and vids. Largest deer appears to be a 4 pt., but another cam has a grainy night pic that could be a larger buck. Pretty happy with what I'm seeing given where I'm hunting.

Your smallest plot alone in 5R is still more than what I have to hunt in 5R. That's an awesome list considering all the suburban sprawl inside 5R. I'm a new hunter and thought that maybe I was pressuring the deer too much last season. After seeing your parcel list, that was most likely the case. Glad you posted this because it's convinced me to go try some public land hunting (despite knowing Jack Squat about where to go).

Appreciate the warm welcome, all. Great reading material across the board and you guys are getting me stoked for Opening Day!
