Better to swallow your pride than force a bad shot. I learned that "Be Ready" lesson the hard way last season. The reason for the missed opportunity has been burned into my brain ever since.

I just got the jingle in my pants a few minutes ago.

We'll be looking for a stellar post in the Beer thread after you connect!

My deepest condolences for the loss of your dad. Best of luck this season as you bring his rifle and spirit with you into the woods. I'm sure he will be there with you on every hunt.

I think Doc was pretty much spot on. Maybe with age comes wisdom? Looks like you could use some.

Building an ark in 5R.

I need to try the West-ified too. TF, what is the difference between West-ified and Willittized?.

If he is only "possible", then your actual target bucks must be absolute studs!

LIVE From The Woods 2018 - Lets hear stories and see some pictures!

Admirable that you gave the spike a pass after not harvesting one last year. You have to be all kinds of excited out there! Hope you have a jerky and steaks candidate show up soon for your first bow harvest!!- 10374 replies

Half of tree stand falls were fatal, 100% were preventable
Jdubs replied to Jdubs's topic in General Hunting
Didn't take long. My local FD used their ARGO ATV to extract a hunter who fell out of his treestand. Chief indicated that the hunter should be ok as the stand wasn't too high. -

My parents and sister both live in DE. If not for my daughter here, I'd move back there tomorrow or just over the border in PA. The best part of visiting family is stocking up at Cabela's and Costco, tax-free, before driving back behind the lines in NY! Cuomo isn't fooling anyone blaming the weather. Every single retirement or college planning client I have worked with have all talked about kissing NY goodbye to save a mountain on taxes and to get away from all the political nonsense, especially the un-SAFE Act. Just the property & school tax savings alone of 90% less in SC or TN nearly seals the deal for them.

I say this respectfully: people of all ages make choices about how they spend their disposable income. Some have a discipline to work and save, some don't. Some live at the edge of their means by choice. Watching "esports" become a thing at least begins to explain the lesser attraction to hunting these days for younger people. Like it or not, smart phones, ipads and gaming are huge draws for millenials. I think if established hunters make the effort to connect with new hunters through electronic platforms, there is a good chance for success to advance the sport.

I figured as much, but did not want to ASS-ume. No fn excuse at all for another hunter to put you in his crosshairs like that! Fatal accident waiting to happen.
-
Just curious, were you wearing blaze orange? I cannot even begin to fathom any reason for knowingly aiming a loaded firearm at another hunter. Guys like that have zero business hunting with a firearm.

Wear 'em. Oh Yeaahhhhh!!!

Watched it this morning. Very cool!!

Also a big fan of the HP guys and DIY Sportsman. Zach's ghillie suit stalk on the recent 45 min video was simply awesome! I love seeing all the creative ways they get back into public land.

I hunt in a small, highly pressured area, so my idea of selection is to not press a bad shot. There was one nice spike that elluded me twice last year that I would have harvested (once during xbow, once during regular) if presented with a clean shot.

My last read was 'Extreme Ownership' by Jocko Willink, but for me hunting time is best spent hunting.

Started off with a bacon steak app...yes, BACON STEAK! Had to be an inch thick cut and pure heaven. Filet was perfect, as usual. Usually I take a pic of the wine bottles to remember what I had, but forgot this time. Fortunately, this "work" meal wasn't on my dime as I'm sure the check for four ran 5 or 6 bills.

Had a Sam Octoberfest before the restaurant lost power tonight. Meh. Bailed and went to Morton's rather than wait. No pics, but the booze and beef there were outstanding.

That is a helluva care package!!

I feel your lefty pain. Searching locally for a quality LH bolt gun was like trying to find water in the desert. I ultimately went with a Tikka T3X stainless in .308 and love it.
