  1. My 14 year old Godson started with a Marlin 30-30. He has done very well with it.
  2. Saturday was our northern New York rifle opener. I get to go to hunting camp which is a real highlight for me. There is all of the excitement and anticipation that come with an opening. On this particular opener I got to my stand late and it was daylight, I usually arrive in the dark. Anyway, I arrived at my ladder stand, put on my HSS vest and started up the ladder. It was then that something caught my eye. There was a gap where the platform is attached to the ladder, I could see it against the sky. I start to look more closely and I discover that my stand has been sabotaged > . One bolt was removed and the other was unscrewed to the very end. So if I had put my weight on the platform, it would have collasped. I stood there in dismay that someone set me up to take a fall. Then I thought, someone set me up to possibly die . This loser had to bring tools because these stands go together with lock nuts. I know the work wasn't done by some PETA freak, they don't make around here, it was another hunter, probably some trespasser I have kicked off over the years. Needless to say it was not a very pleasent opening day. I moved to a new spot and set-up but my head wasn't really in the hunt. So I made sure to say thanks to the Big Guy for making me late for me stand and made the best of the rest of the morning. Everyone! Check your stand when you climb! If they can find my stand in the middle of no-where in the Adirondacks, they can find your stand too.
  3. When hunting on my own property I prefer a groundblind that faces my food plot. It offers me scent and motion control. If I am on the move or hunting on someone else, I take my climber. The biggest reason I use a ground blind is that I can bring my buddies with me.
  4. Why bring a pellet gun, bring a couple arrows with field points and it will make you a better archer. Go to www.huntingfootage.com do a seach for a guy name "Bowana" and what some of his videos that involve squirrels. That guy is a squirrel hunting nut when deer hunting. Try this link, you may need join first to see it. http://www.huntingfootage.com/videos?page=%3Dbrowser_content.videos.e2s%3Fupk%3D2748&push=veep_browser_content_videos
  5. This my area of NY and its all over the news. Saw him this morning being lead in by handcuffs. I hope he will get what he deserves.
  6. Absolutely and it would get a plaque in the house. Not out in the garage with the other scrub bucks.
  7. I'm sorry but I have trouble believing this one. :
  8. 4 but I prefer 5. I keep 4 for deer and 1 for turkey.
  9. Have you ever thought about doing it yourself? Its not that hard.
  10. I was just your way about a month ago for a 3d shoot on Labor Day weekend. I hear the hunting up there along the river is sweeeet! I have friend from Massena who loves it up there.
  11. When we get to the southern tier we do very organized 5 man drives after the opening day. 3 watchers and 2 drivers. Safety is a top priority.
  12. I have shot the .348 powerbelts out of my T/C Renegade for years. They are awesome! I won't shoot any other bullet
  13. We have a terrible time with ticks at our hunting camp. Thanks for sharing this.
  14. I live in Pierrepont Manor. I hunt on my own property and we have a hunting camp in Talcville.
  15. I hear ya! People call text or email with plans or need me for something. I feel like hanging a sign saying that my hours change on Sept. 27th.
  16. I have one pair of Woolrich wool hunting pants for sale. They have a 40 inch waist. They were purchased unhemmed and my wife hemmed them to a 34" inseam. If you have a shorter inseam, just take out the hem and raise them up. I bought them last October and wore them twice. They are too big for me. The pants are a 9 out of 10 and in excellent condition plus they have been dry cleaned. I would like $65 (tyd) for them, cash, M.O.
  17. Wow! An old Quick Point. I used one of them for a while in the 80's. I got tired of the gigantic red dot. I use a smaller red dot sight now that I like much better. We are using rifles now in Madison County so the slug gun is collecting dust. When I did use it, I sighted it in every year. I also sight that in every year. Too much can go wrong and we owe it to our quarry.
  18. I just ordered some NAP Spitfire Gobbler Getters to try on the fall turkeys. They look like they will deliver quite a punch. What broadhead do you use for turkeys?
  19. We have a poacher who comes onto our land. We have not caught him yet but he always leaves beer cans as a calling card. But I totally agree with Eddie that the cartoon was wrong.
  20. 29 years of deer hunting. 2 lost gun 1 bow
