Thanks! I've always wanted to learn that one. -
I am comfortable shooting at 40 yards but I will not shoot past 30 at a deer.

Are you waiting on a specific buck and or size during opening week?
RangerClay replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
I have one archery tag left so I will try to poke a doe during the September season. After that I have no hit list. I will shoot at whatever inspires me. But I will not shoot fawns. -
Bow season is less than two weeks away here up north. I was thinking about trying a new arrow. Has anyone tried the new Carbon Express Mayhems?

For $28 (that is with free shipping) I get 3 Slick Tricks. They are a much better broadhead than Muzzy's imo. I have some more expensive mechanicals that I shoot at turkeys because I like the larger cutting surface with a smaller boiler room.

Amen! You get what you pay for. My cousin had to get cape for his buck because the bugs ate the first one up. I paid $550 for my last mount. I hear he is up to $600 now and I would pay it in a heartbeat for his quality. I was at another taxidermist shop recently to get a coyote tanned and his deer work was horrible. Get out there and look/shop around. Don't wait till you get a deer and are scambling to find one.

Ground blind - stand stool or chair. What's good & comfortable?
RangerClay replied to nyslowhand's topic in Deer Hunting
My ground blind set-up for the entire bow season? I have one of those old style lawn chairs that fold flat. The one's with the criss cross plastic straps. I like it because of the arm rests on each side and the seat is flat. These new chairs that fold into a cylinder have too much pocket in the seat. Heck I'm usually in the blind an hour before light. Having the arm rests allows me to take a short nap before the action begins. The most important thing is to be comfortable. -
Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
RangerClay replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
If you get a chance, read the editorial in the Sept. 2010 Outdoor Life. Nice to see a national magazine take a step back from AR.- 1885 replies

Where I grew up in Madison County, it was the largest producer of hops in the world. Occasionally we find a vine here or there. There is store called the Hops Shop in Munnsville. Maybe they could tell you what variety it is.

Nothing racist intended. We have a ton of military wives from the south that work in WalMart. The fact that she was black was just part of the story.

I went to the sporting goods section of Walley World to get my does tags. When I step to the counter there is a guy in line ahead of me. I immeadiately notice that the black girl with the deep southern draw behind the counter has absolutely no idea what she is doing. Guy: I have lifetime license, I just want a doe permit. Girl: A whaaaaat? Guy: A doe permit. Girl: Ok. (starts typing on the keyboard) You want what agin? Guy: A doe permit. I want it for 8G Girl: Ok. (Looking even more confused, starts playing on the computer again) Girl: Would jew like a one day or seven day permit? ??? I start laughing out loud. The guy just rolls his eyes at me. The girl then freezes up the computer and two managers cannot fix it. I leave shaking my head and go to Herb Phillipson for my permit.

On my property (southern Jefferson county) I have apples on threes that normally don't produce and they have a TON of apples. Most are starting to drop. We are a week to ten days ahead of schedule.

After the opening weekend in the s. tier, all we do are organized deer drives. There only 4 or 5 of us not a big gang. 3 watchers and 2 drivers. After opening weekend the bucks go nocturnal. We get them up on their feet and out of bed after a long night of chasing does.

I have an EMF Hartford in .45LC. I don't take it out much anymore but it has killed deer.

I saw the show last night. It was neat to see him visit central NY. I guess he made several stops but those were the 3 that made TV. I have yet to go to the Dinosaur. Probably the only person in NY who has not been there. I use their Cajun Foreplay shake on most things that I grill.

Last year I shot a turkey. The arrow blew right through her and I thought she would die in a few seconds. But after a minute she started to walk off. Thank God I had the rangefinder so I could put a final shot in. You may have to put a long shot on a wounded animal someday. Possibly laying down. It would be nice to know the EXACT range before launching another arrow.

I'm shooting 65# from my Turbohawk.

Maybe this was one of those relocation projects that they always deny. :

Wildgame Innovations iR4CG Game Camera?
RangerClay replied to brudaman340's topic in General Chit Chat
I bought an IR4 last November and I ran it for a month. Then I put it back out in April and ran it for a month. Took great pics. Then the batteries got low. When I put new batteries in the camera did not work right when it was upright. I knew that I had filled out the warantee card so I called them. Their words, "Sounds like you have a short, send it back and we will give you a new one." I was very surprised with response. I sent it out and in about 3 weeks I got a new camera and its in the food plot right now. I give them an A+ for customer service! -
I reload my pistol rounds but not my rifle.

Lights! How do you walk into the woods in pitch darkness?
RangerClay replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
I have a small light that attaches to my hat with a red lens. -
I bought my lifetime license in 1995. Its paid for itself and I hunt for free now.
